big mistake. i've been to sushiya twice. the first time was for the almond chicken. i'm a big fan of leftovers and i didn't take leftovers home that night. however, i tried sushiya again with the benefit of the doubt given that sushi was just their forte. i was also persuaded by all the positive reviews.

big mistake. it was the worst sushi i've had in my entire life and i've been eating sushi for a decade.

i ordered a simple salmonrolland a shrimp tempura roll. the salmon was clearly not fresh. it was so dry and wrong-tasting, it might have been frozen salmon. the tempura tasted so strange, like powdered sugar. it was chewy instead of crunchy and left a disgusting aftertaste. even the sushi rice tasted off...

i ordered my sushi to-go and the one positive here is when i walked into the restaurant, my sushi was ready within two minutes. very quick service. honestly, i hate to leave such a bad review but i feel disrespected that i was served such a glaringly low-quality meal. apparently, the former owner, william, recently sold the place and it's gone downhill from there.

always excellent - some of the best sushi in the duke city. sushiya is a gem that i now place among new mexico's finest restaurants. the menu blends a variety of tastes and the atmosphere and service are both top notch.

however, chef william's impeccable sushi is the best part of all. i have been to sushiya for sushi a couple times a month for the past year and have never left disappointed. i usually don't trust a whole lot of places to make excellent nigiri sushi (simply vinegared rice with raw seafood and a seaweed wrapper), but at sushiya i actually recommend it over american-style rolls. that's not to say that the rolls won't be extremely satisfying (i recommend the dragon or rainbowrollif you want to get one of those), but the seafood selection and masterful preparation of the sushi lend themselves to the purity of nigiri or sashimi. the slabs of fish are fresh, juicy (but not soggy), and delicious. the rice is spongy and has just the right amount of tart. william prepares sushi as a master and albuquerque is better off for it.

yum yum -best sushi in abq ive found!. i am a big time sushi lover, and since moving to abq a year ago, i had given up on trying to eat quality sushi, just assuming it doesn't exist here.
tried many places, including azuma, pacific rim, all edible but not quality sushi. nodas , till today was the number one spot in my opinion for fresh fish, but too far away for me.

this place, though unassuming in a albertsons shopping strip, is rather cute inside .
but the sushi is amazing ! very fresh fish and quality rice, great presentation. ( we got energy roll, buddha belly and geisha , phillyrollwas fantastic ) service was very good too. this will be my new spot. good sake list!
not many people in the restaurant on a sat night, go eat there and give it a try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

awesome!. i have been trying for years, rather unsuccessfully, to find "my" sushi place. i finally found it in sushiya. since my husband and i discovered this place about 5 months ago, we haven't been anywhere else for sushi, or any asian food, for that matter.
chef william does an amazing job. everything is super fresh and tastes it. let him go crazy on the sushiyarolland you won't be disappointed. the buddha bellyrollis to die for, and the energyrollis a nice take on a tempura tuna roll. for the purists, there is a great selection of nagiri and sashimi. if you have a non-fish eater in your group, everything from their kitchen is just as good as their sushi.
i would highly suggest sushiya to anyone who wants a new, awesome sushi experience in albuquerque. no matter what you get, make sure to get the hot and sour soup. it is killer. also, the house sauvignon blanc goes well with all the rolls and other fish dishes. highly recommended.
