disappointed. i am actually glad that surin west is a westernized thai restaurant as they skip the obligatory fishsauce (the curse of every vegetarian visiting thailand) but they also skip pretty much all the flavors i cherish in thai cuisine. i was missing papaya salad, the taste of galanga, lemon grass, marinated tofu, thai basil and most of all thai peppers. ordering extra spicy at a thai restaurant should leave you scorched and begging for mercy but after i tasted several supposedly "spicy dishes" i ordered extra hot and got something slightly hotter than a green bell pepper.

great food. the food is fantastic. i really love surin west. when you go don't expect great service. with the exception of one or two employees they have the worst servers in birmingham. ask for ann( i think is her name) or bruce... they are always great.

delicious, funky soup.. i used to take out 3-4 times a week for two years when i lived in five points. i just really liked their pad prik pork and spicy beef salad. and then, i moved and still visited for their bbq chicken. now days, i only go there on lunch for the sake of the funky coconut soup that i really dig and the thai bbq chicken. my fiancee loves the thai noodle, but to me, it kinda smells like armpit.. just saying. :)

great food, so-so portion sizes.. we love surin west. the food is some of the best we've had but their portions aren't as impressive as other areas. their spiciest selections should be much, much spicier.

as far as value for tastes go, surin west is a marvelous place to go, but with regards to quantity, it's pushing it a little bit. wait for a buy one, get one free coupon in the mail, though, and you'll be good to go.

as i said, the food is simply splendid.

good food..poor service. the only thing i get there is the sweet and sour chicken, i am not a big fan of thai food...so i use this place as my chinese spot. i am in love with the schrimp fried rice!!!!

our waiter was unfriendly...which resulted in his poor tip!

"surin west" is a staple in the city of birmingham, alabama. the restaurant is known for attracting diverse people under one roof and it's also known for getting many people outside of their comfort zone, when it comes to food. this thai restaurant specia

welcome to thailand: "surin west" edition. i leave birmingham, mentally, every time i enter this restaurant. the atmosphere and the energy represents thailand perfectly. the food is exotic and tasty. my favorite dish is the "thai barbecue chicken" and the shrimp fried rice. go try it, it's really good!

"our restaurant". whenever i ask my husband where he wants to go eat, it is always the same answer. he even sneaks over there for lunch without me sometimes. (sniff) surin will always have a special place in our heart. this is where we both first tried sushi. there may be more authentic places to go, but as long as they make super crunch, we will be coming here. we have tried to get other restaurants to replicate it, but none have even come close.

our favorite entrees are nom tok beef and ka proud lamb, but they are all good. we just keep coming back to those.

if we remembered to save room for dessert, it is either the peanut butter pie or the seven layer bar for us.

lunch is a great option for those on a budget, but the restaurant is really pretty at night with the candles lit.

be careful where you park, there is a free lot and then there is one that charges a ridiculous $5.
