in defense of surin west.... okay i see terrible reviews, but i have totally seen great reviews of restaurants and when i dined there, i hated it.
i am long overdue for this one, as my last 3 experiences at surin west were awesome! my boyfriend and i went for lunch one day (you get a free cup of soup with your entree). i love the spicy shrimp coconut soup. i'm always craving it about a week after i eat it. i've tried most of the lunch entrees, but the spicy beef salad gets me every time. the veges seem so fresh and the juices go so well with the salad. also, it's a great value because lunch is fairly cheap there, and the portions are excellent. my service that day wasn't over the top or anything, but i didn't feel like it was bad by any means.
my last visit to surin west was at dinner. we went to get 1/2 price appetizers (5:30 to 7 from tuesday through thurs i think), so this definitely led me to try some new things. my boyfriend loves the crab angels, and they were fantastic as usual. the eggrolls were good, nice and hot but nothing to write home about. obviously, i got a whole bowl of the soup and loved it. my favorite appetizer was the nam-sod. it's this delicious beef ground up with onions and peppers and all kinds of spices and you wrap it up in the cabbage that they bring to "devour" as the menu says. our server was really nice, didn't mind at all that we were only getting appetizers, and had good drink suggestions (although the drinks are a little expensive).
anyways, i guess it just depends when you go. i advise everyone to go during lunch, or when they have specials. it is excellent food, and the value makes it even better. i've never had bad service there, but maybe i just have good luck as far as when i crave that spicy shrimp coconut soup;) surin west is my favorite thaiplacein birmingham, and i definitely recommend it to anyone!

surin baskets!!!!. i love the surin baskets the most for an app. super crunch is always on the order and a piece of cheese cake. too many things to order i never know what to get. wish there was better parking in southside. can we park behind the building somewhere for takeout? i usually go to mountain brook location just for the sake of finding aplaceto park.

great deal for lunch. this is an excellentplacefor lunch. $7 menu, and $2 off if you get a uab coupon. the food is decent, but the service is horrible. don't plan to eat in an hour.

however, this is not thai food. the food is no way spicy or really flavorful. since when does thailand have sushi? anyway, it is not authentic thai!

don't go here. super slow service.overpriced.. i used to visit thisplaceover the years and the service has just deteriorated beyond anything. the wait times are so excessive even when there is hardly anyone dining at the time. you could drive over to the surin mountainbrook and still receive your food faster than dining here. you may think that i am joking when i said that last statement but i have done that before.
the food is over priced and the quantities are scarce. this is the first time i have visited surin west in a couple of months and now i remember why i quit coming here in the first place. be ready to pay high prices and sit there waiting for a long time before your food finally arrives.

used to be good. thisplacewas one of my favorites a couples of years ago...this past time we went, the sushi tasted like it came from a chain supermarket and the thai noodles were more like overcooked linguine than the normal rice noodles. i was so grossed out that i'm not willing to give it another chance.

disappointing and overpriced. this was the worst sushi i've ever had. even worse than the kind you buy at supermarkets. shrimp tasted old and the thai noodles were soupy and tasteless. really in disbelief thisplacehas good ratings.

came with a friend for her birthday and two others.. we had the worse service ever... food was mediocre but probably would have been better if server wasn't so slow.. took forever to get our sushi and i had to send my martini back because it wasn't cold when i got it.. thisplaceuse to be hot. i will not be coming back to spend my money on such inadequate service.

i was looking online for aplacenear me to go eat, being new to the city i don't no much. i saw thisplaceand read some of the reviews for it, a few of the people had nothing good to say but there is always the downers out there so i desisted to try it and see for my self. wow, was thisplacegood!! i don't know what some of the other reviews people said are talking about. i'm from a big city and this has a lot of authentic thai food, after talking with the manger he told me about the pad thai or thai noodle as they call it the pad prick and a few more on trays they had that where really good. the staff is was deferent but in a good way they had their own style and didn't make me feel like i was being served by robots. all in all surin west just became a regular for me and i suggest anyone looking for a goodplaceto eat should go here!

not a fan. thisplaceis over rated. i'm not a fan of restaurants that don't use fresh ingredients.

thisplaceis terrible. don't fall into the trap of the statistics. the food is terrible and the service is awful. the sushi is very bad and the soup is overly salty and disappointing. do not go here.

spicy with good service.. beef salad is the best on the menu, suggest you have them cool it down on the spices or you will leave with hot lips for sure. the sushi is fresh; i have been visiting this restaurants for 5 years. my first experience was in 2007 when on a business trip to birmingham. now, i live in this city and with a city with very limited thai food / asian food this restaurants serves some of the best. service levels are good and food comes out fast with a very limited wait time for a table. its a goodplacefor a date as well.

so good! beef salad, chicken larb, super crunch, brownie with ice cream are the best. also bbq chicken, nam tok beef and wing of angel rock. many other good choices on the menu.placeis addictive.

food is good.placebrings up bad memories since this is where i was when jay called and said they were going a different direction. so i just took my super crunch roll to go

first thai restaurant. i had the shrimp fried rice... and it was actually legit shrimp! not that frozen crap that most chinese restaurants (not all chinese restaurants though lol) serve; fresh shrimp, and they were really big. the rice had a somewhat spicy taste and t cooked very well. probably one of the best fried rice dishes i've ever had. next time around i want to try something with coconut or duck in it! you will enjoy thisplaceand the servers and atmosphere are awesome :)

was great...gone way downhill. this restaurant was a must for b'ham for quite sometime and i was a regular customer. during the past several months, the food has become very bad and tasteless, and much too salty. more, the waiter seated us and just walked off, knowing that we had asked him a question. i hope they get the kinks worked out because this used to be a greatplaceto go. no more, not worth the money or time.
