i was not sure what to expect as we pulled into the parking lot of super perros, located at 2010 w. tennessee street.  the outside of the weather-beaten building is, to put it lightly, not the most inviting.  open the front door, however, and an eclectically decorated, bright restaurant is revealed. we were warmly greeted by staff, who told us to sit where we liked.  we chose a booth, and readied ourselves for some colombian eats (there is a sign which advises non-spanish speakers it is “colombia” not “columbia”).

mixed feelings. i can't decide if i really like this place or not. i got great, friendly service from my waitress, but the portions are smaller than i expected, and thecolombiansodas seem too expensive for just a can with no refills. there is a good variety of hotdogs if you like those, but i don't, so i chose the more traditionalcolombianflank steak with rice and beans, which was good but the steak is pretty small. overall i would compare it to gordo's based on similar dishes, but the portions are smaller. the empanada was disappointingly small and had little filling. it's hard for someone who hasn't eaten "real"colombianfood to judge though, but it isn't one of my top choices in tallahassee.

yes, it is acolombianrestaurant.... ...just like crazy buffet is a chinese restaurant.colombianfood, yes, but lots of good stuff that isn't colombian. i took my daughter there recently, on a saturday. it was quiet and uncrowded. service was average, but not bad. the food was good, but not 5 star. this is not a 5 star restaurant, however, and we were very satisfied with our food. don't remember what my daughter had, but my platanos were very good, just the way i like them. our meals came with rice, naturally. white rice is usually somewhat of an afterthought, a blank canvas for your entree. this rice, however, was good! just like my suegra used to make. honestly, i would go back there just for the rice alone.

got no complaints about super perros at all.

according to their website , super perros was started by two colombians selling hotdogs and hamburgers out of a street cart. though they’ve stayed true to those roots, they also serve up some genuinecolombiancuisine. their menu (make sure to have your volume all the way up for maximum enjoyment) is extensive, offering a full line of hamburgers and hotdogs, as well as ceviche, parilladas, churrasco and vegetarian options. i don’t think any restaurant has a better location than super perros. at the corner of w. tennessee and ocala, it has better visibility than doak-campbell. flanked by two heavily shaded patios, the inside can best be described as garage sale chic meets latino cafe. they’ve got a couple monitors rotating through different menu options, as well as a tv playing what i assume wascolombiansoccer. the cooler has beer and a full line of south american soft drinks. bandeja paisa i ordered the bandeja paisa, which must mean “meat plate” in spanish. get a look at it. choriz

too pricey for what you get. this was my first time eatingcolombianfood, so i can't say how authentic it was. i can't remember the name of what i ordered, but it was basically a very thin slice of pan-seared steak with sauteed onions served on top of white rice. it came with a small bowl of red beans, a small side salad, and out of a choice of sweet plantains, yucca,or tostones, i ordered sweet plantains.

while i can't complain about the taste, i did feel like the red beans and rice needed something extra. the waiter brought out a cold onion/cilantro/chili salsa, which helped add some extra flavor to the dish.

the other two in my party: one ordered something with chicken and instead it arrived with steak. she enjoyed it anyway, but not sure how they mixed up chicken and steak. also, she ordered a side of yucca, which was disappointing because it was two small pieces of fried yucca. that's it.

the other ordered acolombiangyro (with lamb) with fries. while he said the gyro was good, he was expecting it to have acolombiantwist. instead, it tasted just like a greek gyro except for being served with guacamole on the side. the french fries were delicious, though.

for dessert, we shared a lemon cake which was drizzled with chocolate sauce and i think it had shaved white chocolate on top. it was tasty.

i felt like the food was good, but too expensive for the quality of what you get. however, the waiter was friendly and helpful and the service was failry prompt.

so glad i finally went. i've been meaning to try this place for ages and i'm so glad i finally did. it was a small little place but had lots ofcolombianculture. our server was energetic and very nice. he asked me if i wanted lime with my water. when i said i'd like a lemon he got confused which was the green one and the yellow one. funniest conversation i had all day. i ordered the twins which is 2 hot dogs on one bun with all the toppings. i absolutely loved it, though i think just one dog would have sufficed! chips, mozzarella cheese, pineapple sauce, and other toppings give it an amazing and unique flavor.

i've eaten here a handle of times since it first opened. i tried the burgers, dogs, and chicken plates. the food is akin to typical fast food style places in a mall food court. apparentlycolombianstyle food means adding pineapple and mozzarella to it. nothing i had was very good and it's pricy. i was hoping for something unique and ethnic and what i got was bland food court fast-food.
