food was okay. you only have 60 minutes to order (buffet $60 per person) which is okay i guess, but it felt quite rushed and you spend more time trying to think if there's anything else you should order before time runs out, rather than actually enjoying your food. if you prefer taking your time, better to eat elsewhere.

beautiful hidden place around the corner next to martin place. operating only takeaway during the covid times. fresh high quality bbq meat, good portions, economical - all that sums up an ideal quick lunch meal. they are also selling their alcohol for discounted prices. soon to open dine in and will definitely go back for that experience.

one of the most hidden and best japanese bbq in the cbd. came for the ayce (all you can eat) set menu, and it was by far satisfying to see food coming onto the table at a decent pace. would love to come back on cold days as any bbq would be great to serve hot, warm delicious meats and greens on a cold day.

my friend and i dined at suminoya for their lunch meal set and we were thoroughly impressed with the quantity and quality of the food! we ordered the two choices set where you receive your choice of two meats, rice, salad and miso soup. it doesn't sound like much but we left feeling completely full and satisfied. all the wagyu beef choices we had cooked to marbled perfection on the diy grill and literally melted in our mouths. it was so amazing! the duck was also recommended to us and it was fantastic so i recommend that if you're ordering another option! cool jazz music, atmosphere and the friendly service make this place a winner to me

probably my favourite japanese bbq in the cbd, most people that venture to the cbd for jap bbq generally suminoya is the place they’d go to. they have really good set buffett options, definitely go for the premium $60 option with the wagyu beef, worth the extra $10. also the green tea ice cream is the best sydney has to offer!!

the suminoya buffet is one of our old favourites when it comes to a satisfying japanese yakiniku bbq smorgasbord for group catch ups, so i was glad to find out that they had added a few new items onto the menu when we visited for dinner recently. the restaurant is tucked away in a lane way near martin place and for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of trying the suminoya buffet before – the set up is essentially that you choose the level of menu you’d like to order from, 60 minutes to order whatever you’d like off that menu (via their handy ipad ordering system) and then 90 minutes to eat your meal. each table is equipped with tabletop bbqs for you to cook your chosen meats and huge extractor fans so you don’t end up smelling too much like your food at the end of it all.

hidden delight. when dee suggested suminoya for lunch, i could not resist the proposal. although hidden in hoskings place not far from the corner of martin place and pitt street, the set up offered a wood colour ambience, with an emphasis on grills, varying seating places and a buffet with good repute. what struck me first when i saw my bento lunch box a (with nigri sushi as my option and spinach as the day's special dish) was definitely the freshness of the raw ingredients - tender, fatty and with character. a bit short on the essential green mustard but you are given more if you ask! service was quick, which fitted well with the lunchtime crowds. the menu was easy and logical to help select what we wanted.

been here twice, with a group of 6 both times. it was such a stressful and hectic time trying to order and cook and eat, because there is a 90 min time limit for your sitting and you can order up to 60 mins of your time only. we were smarter the second time around but still it was hectic. the ordering is seamless via ipad. the meat is hit and miss depending on which cut you ordered. i really liked the potato salad and the eel rice though. not a smart idea for a buffet dinner though. we also really like the slushies, but it came in such a small container, we had to order like 50 of them! take note that they do charge for overordering if you couldn’t finish your food.

our last visit was incredibly disappointing, to the point that i cannot recommend this restaurant at all. service was utter rubbish (impolite, ??? cold beer, shooing us out). prawns were not fresh (black heads), scallops were dry and wagyu was covered in way too much oil. the miso soup also had a bitter taste: a mark of burnt soup. the issue is that we brought friends from overseas and it was embarrassing for us to take them. for a "deluxe" buffet, there was nothing deluxe about the experience at all, and we feel that we did not get what we paid for. the only food items that was remotely acceptable were the potato salad.

one of the few times where we did not tip, simply because the waitstaff were incredibly rude ("is cold sapporo okay?" - no, in no universe is paying $8 for room temperature beer ever okay in a restaurant; "give me the soy sauce - we are closing", again rude, interrupting a customer's conversation with such a direct comment).

i normally do not write like this, and so it speaks volumes that i would recommend against coming here based on this experience.

i went there with friends recently for birthday celebration so we went to the deluxe option ($80/per person) i love their wagyu beef, it's really good 🤤. i also tried their sushi and sashimi, they are pretty decent 🥰 i recommended you to eat the grilled salmon sushi (1st recommended among their sushi), grilled beef sushi . i have tried another jbbq all you can eat but i didn't like their sashimi at all.
i can tell due to covid, it's difficult for them to maintain their previous lower price but hot water/tea during winter i think it's reasonable.
the grill was a bit difficult to adjust 😥, the heat only focus in the middle so it took a long time to cook when you only have 1 hour to eat.
it would take a while for my order to arrive my table. at the beginning it was ok, but i guess later time they become busy so my food arrives slowly.
i am happy with the quality of the meat. hopefully they will improve their menu.
i didn't take many photo because i was busy to cook and eat.

great variety, good quality meat and seafood. super fast service. slightly pricey for dinner, might try coming during lunch next time. for the price we pay for dinner, would expect better sauces, ambience and no time limit.

terrible service and staff are very rude.

i requested for the bbq grilled to be checked as the flame was very low and wasn’t cooking properly. the staff dismissed my request saying it’s just the way this grill works and that they always had an issue with the grill. given the bill was $600 at the end of the night, i would have expected a standard level of service.

will not be returning back. you have lost a loyal customer of 6 years.
