beautiful hidden place around the corner next to martin place. operating only takeaway during the covid times. fresh high quality bbq meat, goodportions, economical - all that sums up an ideal quick lunch meal. they are also selling their alcohol for discounted prices. soon to open dine in and will definitely go back for that experience.

probably my favourite japanese bbq in the cbd, most people that venture to the cbd for jap bbq generally suminoya is the place they’d go to. they have reallygoodset buffett options, definitely go for the premium $60 option with the wagyu beef, worth the extra $10. also the green tea ice cream is the best sydney has to offer!!

hidden delight. when dee suggested suminoya for lunch, i could not resist the proposal. although hidden in hoskings place not far from the corner of martin place and pitt street, the set up offered a wood colour ambience, with an emphasis on grills, varying seating places and a buffet withgoodrepute. what struck me first when i saw my bento lunch box a (with nigri sushi as my option and spinach as the day's special dish) was definitely the freshness of the raw ingredients - tender, fatty and with character. a bit short on the essential green mustard but you are given more if you ask! service was quick, which fitted well with the lunchtime crowds. the menu was easy and logical to help select what we wanted.

i went there with friends recently for birthday celebration so we went to the deluxe option ($80/per person) i love their wagyu beef, it's reallygood🤤. i also tried their sushi and sashimi, they are pretty decent 🥰 i recommended you to eat the grilled salmon sushi (1st recommended among their sushi), grilled beef sushi . i have tried another jbbq all you can eat but i didn't like their sashimi at all.
i can tell due to covid, it's difficult for them to maintain their previous lower price but hot water/tea during winter i think it's reasonable.
the grill was a bit difficult to adjust 😥, the heat only focus in the middle so it took a long time to cook when you only have 1 hour to eat.
it would take a while for my order to arrive my table. at the beginning it was ok, but i guess later time they become busy so my food arrives slowly.
i am happy with the quality of the meat. hopefully they will improve their menu.
i didn't take many photo because i was busy to cook and eat.

great variety, goodquality meat and seafood. super fast service. slightly pricey for dinner, might try coming during lunch next time. for the price we pay for dinner, would expect better sauces, ambience and no time limit.

agoodplace . 60 dollar each person. the beef is awesome. the time is too short...only 60 minutes for order... the ice cream is really not enough to eat. crowded ... i hope the order time could be longer!

i have been here once which impressed me with its verygoodservice and nice food but the second time ive been here was a disaster i was badly treated by the japanese guy in reception.he seems got some atitude that day.he was very impatient when explaining the booking situation and and never said sorry just telling us they are all fully booked then give me a face like i don't care if you want to have dinner here or not.
japanese restaurants are famous for theirgoodservices.but i can never feel it that day in suminoya. be more patient and say sorry isn't a very hard thing for you to to as a waiter! this place is really ruining japanese restaurantsgoodreputation!really disappointing!

great atmosphere and super speedy service! this place is a bit pricey for those who might be on a budget but it's worthy a try! we got the $60 bbq buffet deal with $6 all you can drink (limited selection). the meat wasgoodand fatty if you enjoy that. i really enjoyed the pork rib and wagyu beef halami. lots of variety in the sides (corn, sashimi, miso soup etc.). probably wouldn't come back again just because of the price but if you're ever in the cbd and want to try jap bbq, check it out! also gr8 sesame ice cream!!

came here for a friends birthday! we got the $60 premium set menu. they have a time limit of 2hours for dining and they will charge you for left overs. as soon as you start ordering, there is a timer that starts - basically starts from when you order. their service was quick and friendly. they also offer quite a range of selections you can choose from. however, be mindful that if you order a sausage, it will only be one sausage - as per the picture.

but overall, it was agoodexperience! it is a bit pricey for a buffet. but it is a worth an experience!

so many options, all verygoodquality meat, fishes, other japanese dishes and of course dessert! alwaysgoodto come when you have a lot of friends to gather around and eat together. the price for the all you can eat deal prices is very fair and reasonable though the time limit is sort of a downside which is why i am rating this a 4/5 instead of 4.5/5.

9/10 food
8.5/10 atmosphere
7/10 price including time limit
note that be weary of ordering too much as they also charge you for wasting food.

at first a $60pp all you can eat japanese bbq (drinks not included) may sound a little steep, but when you consider there's also endless sashimi on the menu, it was definitely more then worth it, and that's why this place is always busy. we booked & came early. it's a little hard to find, being at the back of a dead end street in between buildings. we sat downstairs so was a bit stuffy. but it didn't matter when the food started coming, you only have a 60mins range to order & an extra 30mins to eat. given the beef tongue was restricted to only 1 plate per person we got that first to try, it was damn delicious. thinly sliced, so cooks quickly, it has a crisp chewy texture (爽口), well marinaded in soy, perfect with a beer (or on its own). the other cuts of meat were ok, the wagyu was the next best, the ribs with the bone were bit thick so not asgoodas others. the sashimi weregoodquality. the sides were ok, but not really what you're there for anyway. i enjoyed it so much, i came back for a second visit in 2 weeks with different friends. definitely highly recommended.

this is japanese buffet at its finest. suminoya’s concept is simple: choose a set menu and go crazy! you have 60 minutes to order and the remainder 30 minutes to eat, so all in all the buffet is 90 minutes long.

there are 3 types of packages: standard, gourmet (with sashimi, each person limited to one plate of ox tongue ) and deluxe (unlimited ox tongue). note that the buffet option is only available for dinner and on weekend dinners, diners have to opt for either the gourmet or deluxe package.

love it:
1. you can order using ipads, which circumvents the otherwise awkward problem of having to signal the waiter every time you want a double helping of wagyu short rib. the food was very prompt, which is often not the case in all you can eat restaurants. zero faults.
2. great choice: they have a reallygoodselection of meat and sashimi, and we managed to sample almost everything. particularly loved the wagyu short rib, scallops, corn, wagyu steak and scampi. everything is really well marinated and tastes delightfully fresh. sashimi was fresh and clearly of a decent cut. just beware when ordering that one serve means one piece, so make sure you order more than one!

not a fan of:
1. the raw beef had way too much sesame oil in it, drowning the taste of the beef. avoid if not a fan.
2. 60 minutes is too short a time as we spent most of the hour in a frantic cycle of cooking and ordering. however this appears to be the standard time for most japanese all you can eats do not really a pet peeve relating to suminoya pet se.

verdict: excellent value for money. suminoya doesn’t skimp on quality and for unlimited meat, sashimi and ice cream i don’t think i can ask for more.

i was excited upon seeing all thegoodreview but i would honestly prefer to go to a-la carte japanese bbq, the standard buffet (seafood and meat) 50$ pp has a limit on ox tongue which was one portion per person (too little)🤦🏼‍♀️ and the rest of the meat was so so but overly dressed with really sweet soy(fine if u have sweet tooth) the quality of the meat was prettygoodso it was a shame that they overdressed it. i do not recommend going downstairs if you are here for a dinner catch up, voice echoes and it was way too noisy even when there was only one other table. worth trying but will not go back 🙂

great food andgoodservice marred by poor seating arrangements for groups larger than 4, especially if it's an odd number of people. recommend going on a date or double date but not for a lunch, work party or big outing and the like.
