the buffet was extraordinary with so much selection and what an experience you get with it too, riding up the gondola to dinner 🚠
.
my personal favourite dishes were the bamboo shoots and prawn salad (4th photo) 🥗 vegetarian dumplings as they were stuffed with mushroom meat 🥟🍄 and the crab

the view was definitely the best part of this place. the food was very underwhelming and to be honest quit disappointing the selection was very average and mussels seemed to be the only actual seafood available from the seafood section! the dessert bar looked better then it actually was. i would of been just as happy with something from the cafe next door at a 1/4 of the price. i woudnt go back

we had my mum's 50th up here and it was great! views are amazing! price for the buffet includes the gondola ride up and a free drink (including cocktails) so i thought it was great value. heaps of vegetarian options and everything was pretty yum! didn't love the desserts, probably the only downfall. staff were excellent

great view at night and a lot of food options. excellent customer service. there were some premium food options too where you had to pay for extra — we had the half cray fish which cost $25 but didn’t really taste that great. it was a bit overcooked (chewy) and we couldn’t quite understand how it was meant to taste. it was a good dining experience overall with the view and the other food options.

the buffet at stratosfare made myself and four other members of my tour group sick. when i recovered i went to speak to the manager. he tried to shift the blame to the meals we had for lunch the day prior. i explained that the people who were unwell had completely different lunches and dinners the night before. he took my details and assured me that within a week i would hear back from the restaurant. that was about a month ago and i have not received any correspondence. absolutely disgusting for such an expensive venue. not only was i unable to enjoy part of my holiday, the way i was treated when i brought this to the attention of staff was appalling.

view is great, food is good with wide range of choice considering in such price level! staff is friendly and setup is clean and tidy! just, since it’s located up on the peak, cost of riding such short distance gondola is relatively high!

we've searched for the "best restaurants in rotorua" on google and this was on pretty much every single list we found on the internet, so we decided to try it out.

when calling for booking, it was overcomplex to book as many details were required other than phone number and name, which should be enough, but that's fine, except for the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived. i'd expect the booking process should have less friction.

our understanding was one of the attactive features of the restaurant was the view and although the restaurant was nearly empty, the staff offered us a table quite far from the window.

it took a while to have someone to take our drinks order. when they did, it took a long time for the drinks to arrive, but only part of it has arrived. one of us ordered a soft drink. we could see the drink sitting on the bar bench and no waiter would bring it to the table, my wife had to walk to the bar and ask if that drink was for our table, than she brought the drink to the table herself.

the second time i've decided to order a beer, no staff would show up, so my wife again had to walk to the bar, order the beer, wait for it and bring to the table herself. again. in less than 20 minutes.

now, finally to the food. as you can notice on their menu, there are many options available, so to be fair, i'll only evaluate the items i've tried myself:

- sirloin, sausages, chicken and other cuts of meat: cold steak is far from what you would expect on a premium restaurant. all cuts, cold. sirloin was well done, like leather.

- fetuccine: overcooked and soggy. think about bad pasta, now this was worse. nearly no seasoning. i've served a very small portion and couldn't eat half of it.

- grilled halloumi cheese: cold. as bad as the meat.

at this point i gave up. the whole experience was so below mediocre and frustrating that i've lost my will to continue.

dessert was ok but mostly way too sweet - for instance: tiramisu and creme brulee, both unnecessarily too sweet.

to finish off the night, the staff was clearly expeling us from the restaurant because they probably wanted to go home as soon as possible, so they've put the drinks bill on the table before we finish eating.

i'm often happy to pay for expensive food, even more expensive than the $72 per person charged at the stratosfare but this time i felt completely ripped off because the service was so frustrating, the quality was so low, the food was so bad, that if i was the chef responsible for that food, i'd change careers.

never coming back.

a good range of cold and hot dishes available. a lot of dishes with mussels served in different ways. there weren’t a large variety of desserts, but the crepe making station was pretty awesome

a nice spread available at this buffet! there’s a station to make your own laksa so that was pretty cool. there’s not enough variety of hot dishes in my opinion, but a lot of cold dishes such as sushi, salads, cheese and cold cut meats are available. the dessert section is amazing! they have a handmade gelato station where they make it fresh in front of you!

one of the best buffet spreads in the world, stratosfare's hospitality and warmth is commendable.

for nz $90, there was ample of food from the world cuisine to choose from. desserts were finger-licking good

plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians.

hospitality was top-notch

make sure you have early dinner (half an hour prior to sunset) as to enjoy the scenic view fro the glass windows.

a must.

**very keto diet friendly**

we are pretty picky, and were really impressed with this place. massive selection of food that was nicely presented and tasted fresh. they had grilled salmon, venision and a fresh hot lamb and beef roast section to name a few. it was really busy but there was still heaps of food to go round.

massive range of fancy desserts, almost too much to choose from.

price includes the gondola up the mountsin which is pretty good considering the price of that alone.

highly recommend it and i think well worth the price. we will go back for sure.

stunning views and ambience. food is average especially if you compare to stratosphere rotorua. they dont even have hot chocolate. no beef or lamb in the grill selection either.

what an amazing place! probably the best restaurant view in all of new zealand! they have heaps of vegetarian options here, which change on a daily basis. my meaty bf loved it too. they have a huge selection of savoury foods such as roasts, cheese, indian, chinese, thai, vegetables...as well as a selection of sweets too. well worth the money! a must do in queenstown!
