steak was excellent, fish was ok but the portion seemed a little small and not the right ratio to fries. service was patchy and expected much better given recommendations and reviews.

lovely lunch... had the slow cooked eggs with bread on the side to make myself a brekkie brunch. prices are reasonable for a prime location.

okay so this is the fancy place if you want to come for a big dinner to celebrate your tasmanian achievements (school, work promotion, birthday, anniversary).
you can look over the river which generally contains silt so many locals find this to be a talking point here at stillwater. or should i say siltwater?
last time i came here the waiter was very big on stressing that there was chocolate dirt in my dessert.

have insider info that the service staff here are expected to be held to a very high standard and they sure are, but it's a bit overbearing sometimes. this information has spoiled the siltwater experience for me, because i feel like i can see the stress in some of the waiters' eyes. keep up the good work, waiters. boss? chill out.

the food is good for tassie standards (you have meats, vegetarian. etc) but these days tassie has raised the foodie bar so stillwater may have to get off its laurels and get into action. this place will probably always have an old money clientele that are loyal to the (chocolate) soil, anyway. so i don't see much likelihood that they will shake themselves into action.

i would not come here unless someone else was paying... can't see that happenning any tim e soon

arrived for lunch, nice location, understated but appropriate decor with quality original glass ware which was appreciated.

cuisine i would classify as modern australian with a french twist.

we enjoyed exceptional array of oysters, i had an amazing scallop dish with bacon, cauliflower and potato foam which was perfect for an early summers day, washed down with with a tongue tingling stefano lubiana sav blanc which was a perfect match with our food.

closed with two beautiful tasmanian cheeses and a local tamar desert wine.

lauren's attention to detail and conversation was excellent!

congratulations to the entire team!

will be back!

the food was devine!
my family and i ate here on a saturday night. the restaurant was very busy so i would defiantly recommend booking in advance.
a fantastic wine list, quite reasonably priced too. the food was to die for, some of the best sushimi i have ever had, we ordered around 8 dishes in total to share, all of which were incredible.
the only reason i do not rate this restaurant 5/5 was because the service was slightly lacking (apparently we did come on the busiest night they have had in a very long time).
also very reasonably priced for how great the food was.

came for breakfast which was very tasty, however i think the extra $5 they whack on to each meal due to the pedigree of the restaurant is a bit uncool. service was fine and friendly and food was tasty, but just as good as the other breakfasts we had in launceston

we celebrated a recent business deal with a dinner for 4 friends at stillwater.  the general opinion of all in the group was that the whole experience was very disappointing.  we went there based on recommendations from others who had eaten there a few years back.  the service was very poor from the beginning, with our main waiter being near impossible to understand as he explained the menu.  we quickly tired of having to ask for the description to be repeated.  the food was at best very average and uninspiring.  overcomplicated dishes that appeared to be "trying" to be upmarket, but failing to deliver.  when we complained about the poor service upon paying our bill, we were told by the owner that "we should have mentioned something earlier as there was now nothing he could do about it" i can now see where the arrogant waiter got his training.  all this at probably the most expensive prices in launceston.  the wine in particular was ridiculously priced.  make sure you have plenty of room on the credit card if you plan on having more than a glass to drink.

amazing food! we were very impressed by the attentive table service and very obliging response when we asked to have a dish split for our children to share. coffee unfortunately not up to our hometown (melbourne) standards. overall a delightful experience at a superb location!

macy and i dropped into stillwater for brekkie whilst visiting tassie. great location and an interesting menu (spiced pork ribs with house made pickles, cornbread, hollandaise and an omelette) food was a little too salty but could have just been the dish.
would recommend if in the area.

our tasmanian travels came full circle in january as we arrived back in launceston after a whirlwind food trek to the (a rather smokey) north, centre and south of the island. this lovely river-city is home to the stillwater restaurant. the restaurant is located inside the historic ritchie’s [flour] mill constructed in the 1830s and on the bank of the tamar river. this day was sunny, warm with a hint of smoke from the tasmania fires started by lightning strikes the week before.  we arrive at the beautifully restored mill and easily find a park. we are greeted by the friendly start and migrate to the centre of the restaurant where we could view the original timber rafters and the river.  it’s a good start.

i had high hopes for this restaurant as i had read some good reviews online, but unfortunately it was a let down..

we arrived for breakfast at around 8:15am, and noticed a sign on the door saying they didn't open until 8:30am.. maybe this is a launceston thing? but i would think a breakfast venue would be open before 8:30am..
but besides that, the meals were pleasant however severely overpriced for what they were..
the eggs benedict was so small and for $20, was really disappointing.. it tasted nice, but was a typical eggs benedict..
my boyfriend tried the red bowl which was slightly larger but the beans lacked flavour..
the service was good, but probably not enough to make us consider returning..

what an absolutely stunning place! my parents had recently moved to tassie (perth) and i living in sydney came down to visit. we couldn't fault stillwater one bit. apart from the restaurant itself being very appealing the food and service was impeccable. our waiter (i didn't catch his name but maybe the maître de) and in fact all staff were superb. they were incredibly professional & obviously enjoy their careers. the whole experience was something i haven't experienced on the 'mainland' for a long time. well done guys, i look forward to returning on my next visit to launceston 👍🏻

the food and wine at stillwater was really delicious. the service was good however for a high service establishment simple mistakes were made.

i'd say this place is a must eat whenever you visit launceston. located quite close to cataract gorge allows me to have my breakkie here before joining the walking trail.
the rye waffle is too soft for my liking and not crispy at all. still it's quite tasty when eaten together with cold smoked huon salmon, dill cucumber, poached egg and seeded mustard creme fraiche.
their house made toasted granola is pretty good too.. served with berry compote, vanilla yoghurt and shredded apple, i choose to have it with soy milk.
