nice website, but misleading. the decor was interesting, but the place had a rundown feeling. and i hate having to order on those pads-i never see anyone cleaning them, so always feel like i need to wash my hands after ordering. i know they're popular, that's just my take on the whole trend. food started coming out really quickly after we ordered, which at first pleased us, however, the hot food wasn't hot at all-in fact, on one dish, the sauce was so cold it had started to congeal. we sent it back. other hot food came out, and while i wouldn't have called it cold, it wasn't piping hot as if freshly made. it was more like, "still hot". all of our food was at our table within five minutes of us placing our order. i know that ayce is hardly a true representation of an authentic sushi house, but having all of our food arrive at basically the same time is a real faux pas. food is supposed to arrive at your table at a precise temperature, and you are supposed to eat it right away, because the chef wants it eaten at that temperature. you can't do that if it's all on the table at once. the actual sushi was fine. rice wasn't well formed, so a little difficult to manage, but the fish was good. nothing was special, though. no pride in presentation. the whole thing just felt like a fast food restaurant. servers didn't seem to know basic etiquette, like not putting down other people's dirty plates on your table, or not bringing your own dirty glass, refilled, to your table instead of getting a nice fresh glass with new ice and new garnish. i was buying, but the server didn't bother to ask who's card he had, just handed the credit card device to my husband, as if it were a given that the man was the one with the money. and he stood around watching while i put his tip in. also, the topper-and i really, really wish i had seen this before we ordered because we wouldn't have stayed-after my meal i went to the washroom, and as i was walking into a stall, a voice called, "no! don't use that one! someone peed all over it, i'm cleaning." it was the hostess. no gloves, no sanitizer, just bathroom paper towels and water from the tap. and from there, i can only assume she went back to passing out those pads for people to place their orders on.
