the breakfastfoodwas good, but the service was not. we waited 10 minutes for our server to come to the table. during the meal, no drink refills were offered and she only checked on us once. we also ordered pie slices to go. they were the tiniest desserts i've ever been served at restaurant. overall, not worth the time to eat here.

**update: the wife and i returned to give this place another shot, this time for brunch. we both chose to do the brunch buffet which included pancakes, biscuits, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, jalapeno & cheese scrambled eggs, and fruit (and maybe some other stuff, i cant remember). we came in with lower expectations than last time and we were pleasantly surprised. thefoodwas very fresh and hot, you could tell they did not let these buffet items sit for very long. although they didnt have to because the pans were cleared out offoodwithin minutes of being served. we have definitely found a cheap brunch spot for those lazy sunday mornings when you dont want to go to a hi-tone brunch spot or spend $30 at a steakhouse brunch. however, i should warn you, we are not the only ones who like their brunch because it gets packed, so definitely be prepared to wait if you get there late. **

the wife and i tried it out for dinner. love the atmosphere and decor. we sat at a table right in front of the big windows next to the street. it was a quiet rainy evening and it was very nice to watch people stroll by as we relaxed. the service was prompt and polite and professional. thefoodwas decent for the price. we started with a pick two appetizer. fried pickles had too much reading for our taste but we also had the black pepper fries and those were amazing. i ordered the chicken fried steak with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. everything came out fresh and hot. the chicken fried steak was thick and seasoned well. the mac and cheese was creamy. my wife had the chicken tetrazzini and it was dry with little flavor. we didn't order dessert even though the key lime pie looked delicious. i think next time i will try their breakfast. overall it's a good place to eat dinner, just don't have very high expectations.

my family and i have gone to spoons countless times since they first opened. we always have a wonderful experience (even when we sit at the counter). the customer service the waitresses and waiters offer is always superb. thefoodis delicious. the atmosphere is quaint and the restaurant is always clean.
we enjoy the view of the square when we dine near the windows. location couldn't be better. we haven't gone more than once or twice in the past year as their prices have been creeping up over the years and the new snug restaurant (although a more limited menu) offer better prices.
spoons is also a victim of its enormous popularity as wait times have gotten longer.
but overall its still great restaurant.

wonderful experiece and atmosphere. spoons has a small town feel to it. the old wood floors and antiquefoodsigns on the walls create a warm cozy feel. our server was very prompt, attentive, and funny. when we asked for an extra spoon he joked, "sorry, we used 'em all on decorations." we all laughed. he had several more laughing moments with us. thefoodwas very good. amongst seven us of we tried bagels, omelets, breakfast tacos, yogurt parfaits, and eggs. everyone really enjoyed the food. i will make this place a priority if i am in the area. it's down home country feel is so nice.

this visit and every other visit to spoons cafe has been a pleasant one. we were starving when we arrived and thefoodreally hit the spot. although i would have preferred more deli meat on my club, i though thefoodwas good overall. the service was commendable and our waitress was very friendly. spoons cafe is always a reliable breakfast and lunch destination for me and my family.

so sad. a friend of mine loves eating at places like this, and we were all sort of geeked about trying a new restaurant. when we arrived, the cafe was pretty busy, and so we stood out front while waiting for a table. after about 30 minutes, a waitress approached and said their were no available tables inside of the main restaurant, but there were available tables in the garage. this seemed curious since we could see a few open tables inside. i have to mention at this point that we are african american, and this struck as a let's-send-them-to-the-colored-section decision, but we did not want to make a scene. as we entered the garage section of the restaurant, we immediately noticed that every patron in this section were either african american or parents with their children. thefoodwas okay (not great, but not terrible), but the overall feeling we left with was terrible. i love mckinney and patronize many of the establishments, but i will never return here.

spoons, it has that "classic" hometown atmosphere. thefoodis as "classic americana" as the building, which is an early 20th century erection. check the schedule, to find out when the live entertainment is happening, then go have dinner and a show with someone you like. try their succulent meatloaf. i think you'll want to go back time and time again, just like i do.

good downtown spot. so, first off, if this place was in a strip center it wouldn't be any good. yet, thefoodis pretty good (b-fast) and the deserts are top notch with the bakery inside. o/w, it's standard fair. the interior and setting makes this place and with addition to the back room it has improved. you should expect a wait during peak times but it goes fairly quickly.

the patio is nice and is in a good spot.

repeat business. been eating here for years now.foodhas always been good every time i go there. service can be a little lacking at times but that's no different anywhere these days. the sweet tea is always good unless you get there just before closing. i'd say i almost always get the same thing every time i go there, which is the 'baked spaghetti' and has always been good. it comes with a caesar salad and a piece of toast for $8.95 (drink extra).

many people come late at night or just after eating lunch for a dessert, of which there are plenty to choose from. the chocolate cake can be slightly addictive and i have had many of my family order a full cake multiple times for that very reason.

the location is great, right inside historic downtown mckinney, which is great for a night out with the kids or to bring a date to! on the weekends, spoons will also have live music playing. usually this is just a solo act but there have been duets and even multiple acts following each other in the times i have been there. even in the texas heat, mid-day, sitting outside is bareable under their canopy.

service? ugh!. first time visit,foodwas good! second visit, service was poor. may not be a third visit!

service was great today, the waitress was personable and attentive.foodwas also great. the best part was the engine break (honey latte). it had beautiful foam art and the foam was perfect.

mixed review. thefoodhere is awesome, some of the best home-style cooking i've had in town. sandwiches, salads, soups, you name it. it's a very cozy little place(especially "the garage') my family and i love the garage on the weekends, we recently went there and it felt very cozy. it's a home away from home, our server was very attentive, although it took some time for thefoodto come out, it was phenomenal. we didn't get a chance to try their signature coffee beverages, but i hear they are amazing. thefoodis a little pricy for some items(4.25 for a bowl of soup). other than that we will definitely be back to the garage.

average. i always want to love spoons but never can say that. so dang cute, decent wait staff, food...meh. not sure what i could recommend to fix thefoodissue. i never feel like what i am eating is 100% fresh. i would say try it once and then decide if it is your sweet spot.

meh..foodwas okay, server barely spoke three words to me (he was much more talkative to people he knew at other tables, and other servers...much, much more talkative), and there wasn't even a hostess when i walked into the joint. she eventually showed up, pointed at a table, wiped it down, slapped a menu onto the wet table, and didn't say another word. whyyyy? there could have been more customer care. yeah, i'm there to eat, but c'mon. uncalled for.
