after reading several reviews here and google i decided to give it a try. i've had some top notch bbq in my life (featured on travel and food network) and this place is nothing special. it was mediocre at best. i ordered the two meats, two sides and with a drink came out to $14. to me, that's a pretty hefty price but since it is bbq i paid no attention. i ordered sliced brisket and ribs. to start off, the brisket was a bit dry and really thin sliced. on top of that, the portions were really small. theribsweren't too bad. i'd rate them a 3 but they were really small.

overall, i wouldn't return not recommend it. for the price you pay, you're better off going to a chain like hard 8 or if you want some austin/lockhart style bbq, i recommend heim's barbecue.

gates of heaven. coming from the bbq capital of the world....i started eating bbq at the tender age of 2...60 years later i still think that upon entering the pearly gates there will be a bbq stand on the left....smokey's could well have theribscovered...the chopped and sliced is good...not as good as luling's city market....good by all means...the fries are excellent...the place was fun...the service outstanding and you could tell they were owners in the reputation...will be back often

consistency is the issue. eddie deen has a winner here, and please don't judge this by the former sets of owners. deen makes consistently average, serviceable barbecue in dallas focused on catering, here the issue is inconsistently great barbecue.

when it's good it ranks with the best. silken brisket sliced thin, with requisite smoke ring and cookie, tender and redolent of smoke.ribsare very good for texas, heavy on the bone and slightly glazed.

sides are all kick ass, including the killer grilled bread and custom buns. beans are laden with sausage and cooked down, slaw is near perfect. i like a finer shred but a lot of folks like this style.

the issue here is consistency. sometimes great, sometimes average. i dig it.

you can always tell a good place by its clientele. a full parking lot is a good sign; an old place is a good sign; and obese people are usually a good sign. smokey'sribson east lancaster has all of these. why? because the food is fantastic. two friends

good, not fantastic. went here upon the recommendation of d mag story and was slightly let down. theribswere wonderful, but the brisket was very dry and flavorless. no smoke, no ring, and it crumbled very easily. not sure why other posters have dismissed the sides - the ranch-style beans contained bits of sausage and brisket and onions, and the mustard-based potato salad was creamy and smooth. both were great. good bread, too. will go back for the ribs, definitely, and will probably give the brisket another shot.
