silver spring house

silver spring house; bar food and beer!. since moving to montgomery, i would guess tonight's visit to be about my 8th or so dine at the silver spring house. from the outside, theplacelooks awesome. beautiful landscaping, a packed lot, and fun umbrella-ed patio. must be good, right?

every time we eat here, tonight included, i am disappointed in the food. tonight, i ordered the "spring house" chicken ($14.95 for half a chicken), the signature item of this proclaimed "chicken joint." a toss salad comes before the meal and it's the type of salad you would make at your house with kroger ingredients. just boring and bland. the entree arrives and it doesn't live up to the hype of its citrus and herb marinate. bummer. i have also tried the black and blue burger (not even as good as bw-3s). the burrito is also the kind of burrito you make at home. my sister ordered the vegan burger and said it's just like she popped it in the microwave herself. on a good note, our waitress was really friendly, very attentive, and knew the menu really well.

so why do we keep going back? well, it's the atmosphere. it totally feels like a florida bar to me. they roll back the windows on a sunny day and have tons of ceiling fans. to me, coronas with lime just taste better alfresco. it's nice to be inside, but outside, but inside...

it also has a nice family vibe. parents can enjoy a beer or cosmo (1/2 price martinis tonight!). it's a greatplaceto dine with kids (doesn't become obnoxious). maybe this is why they've been in business for over 20 years? there are also numerous flat panels everywhere, free popcorn, and you can play keno!! fun. just don't expect too much from the food.

your kitchen may even be better, but the beers sure do go down good here.

i give thisplacea b+. the atmosphere is fun with a decent crowd. the food was good. it is simple. i can recreate it myself a little better. i had expected the chicken to be a little better cut/quality than what was served.
i will return, and just enjoy the atmosphere and drinks.

a fun place. people of all ages, drinking, dining and having a good time. decent food that costs a bit more than it should and competent, friendly service. nice outdoorsy ambiance when the garage-style windows are open. there’s no shortage of tvs for sports fans. an interestingplaceworth a visit, especially on a warm day. dress casual and bring grandma, grandpa and the kids (free crayons).

love thisplaceand love the spring house chicken! it's the best - moist and just the right flavor from marinade. i love their cole slaw too. the pulled chicken sandwich is delish too. this time i got carry out for a sick friend and also for our house. the server that brought it out checked it with me to make sure the order was right. and it was!

bland and ordinary. finally talked the hubby into venturing over to the silver spring house for a sunday lunch. we got there at 12:30 and had no wait. i decided on then fiesta chicken salad ( it was voted one of cincinnati's best) and my husband had the spring house chicken sandwich with a side salad. i loved the peanuts available and the fact that during lunch, soft drinks, tea or coffee is included with the lunch price! but there's where my satisfaction ended. my husband loved the side salad which was a beautiful spring mix with dried cranberries, sliced almonds, and goat cheese (yuck, not my choice for salad). then when my salad came to the table, there were no blue tortilla chips circling it as per the menu. when i asked the server, she acted like she was put out or i was lying. after a couple of passes by our booth, she finally brought a plate of the chips. my salad was bland and void of any taste other than the cayenne pepper that was on the small cajun flavored chicken breast. the sour cream, salsa and cheese was flat and i was totally disappointed. my husband's sandwich was also flavorless. after reading their website about the marinated chicken, i could not detect any citrus tones on his sandwich. i see why this is probably popular after a few drinks, but being totally sober, i did not enjoy the food at all. maybe i'll give it one more try for the chicken on the bone, but only if i don't have a betterplacein mind!

where have i been??. grew up near thisplaceand never been until now. it was amazing! food was so good and the staff was so friendly!! get the cajun chicken! yummm!!

for the money and quality, choose a better place. wow, i can't believe the hi cost of eating out. i hear the food is good at thisplaceyet my meal was nothing special except the price. very hi for what ya get. clearly a take off from the montgomery inn side of thing. my table was dirty, beer was not cold enough and the spice on my food clearly came from a amature cook, not a chef. and french fries at aplacelike this, should be hot and tasty not cold and mussshie. 2 times is enough. maybe third time is a charm but i'm sure a better meal is awaiting my pocket book elsewhere.

came on the 3rd of july after work for a couple of beers and find out a really niceplacethat reminds us the places over the beach in pensacola and sarasota, so happy memories :) beer selection is awesome, food is a+ we had the spring house chicken cajun and the fish tacos very jummy :) mexican beers and belgium beers!! ....goodplacefor a good afternoon...

really good place. thisplaceis always packed for a reason. the food is well prepared, hot (a big deal with me), and properly priced. the service is has been excellent on each visit. silver spring house is one of my favorite places for just a beer or for a meal.

great chicken and more. there is a reason this joint is always packed... they serve really good food in a unique atmosphere in an island of homes. this is theplaceon a saturday night that you go sit at the bar (if you can find a seat) for an hour and have a cocktail or two before your dinner. it is worth the wait, especially in the spring and fall when the weather is perfect and they have the garage door style windows up and the overhead fans going. the food is not groundbreakingly original, it is just well executed americana fare. not sure what to eat, have the chicken with a side of broccoli.... yes broccoli.

regular food done right. i love this place. it is a very casualplacein a much needed location. yes, the food there is "regular"... wings, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, fries and what-not. but, it all is very very tasty. one thing that the menu does have is grilled marinated chicken.... and its amazing. its juicy, healthy, and affordable. if you go here definitely have the chicken.

always a great atmosphere. thisplaceis always packed, whatever time you visit or drive past the parking lot is full all the time. the atmosphere is always great, the wait staff and very friendly and always try and find you a table as soon as they possibly can. you may have a wait but they always do their best to get you seated. the food is ok, nothing fantastic but it comes out hot and fresh and there is always large portions.
the bar is always full of locals who appear to frequent theplaceon a regular basis, but i never feel out of place, i am treated the same, in fact several times whilst i have been there i have seen the owner go over to every table to make sure everyone is ok and has everything they need. i would recommend theplacefor a lively bar atmosphere and the food that whilst not the best i have ever had does what it needs to, fulls you up and leaves you staisfied

i have been to this restaurant at least once a week for several months. the staff is courteous and on top of everything, the food is amazing, the atmosphere is fun. but more than anything i find the most important value is that they take care of their customers when there's been a mistake. we went there last night and due to lots of high numbered parties, our wait went from 30 minutes to an hour with no turnover happenin and it not looking like we were going to get to eat anytime soon. when i asked. the outside hostesses if we could switch to their list they said they didn't think so, but hold on. the manager (i think) came over and said he would take care of us. we were sat within ten minutes. all of this was done for a family they didn't even know were regulars. i would recommend thisplacehighly. i would even like to thank the owner for creating aplaceso wonderful. five out of five stars, you guys!!!

perfect setting. great setting for lunch. amazing they can keep it as comfortable as they do, as many days of the year as they do, with the garage doors open. may seem silly but the free popcorn is awesome here, just something about it. pete's burrito is fantastic and the side of black bean salad and tortilla chips is a perfect match. got oplacewhen entertaining or being entertained.
