silver spring house

silver spring house;barfood and beer!. since moving to montgomery, i would guess tonight's visit to be about my 8th or so dine at the silver spring house. from the outside, the place looks awesome. beautiful landscaping, a packed lot, and fun umbrella-ed patio. must be good, right?

every time we eat here, tonight included, i am disappointed in the food. tonight, i ordered the "spring house" chicken ($14.95 for half a chicken), the signature item of this proclaimed "chicken joint." a toss salad comes before the meal and it's the type of salad you would make at your house with kroger ingredients. just boring and bland. the entree arrives and it doesn't live up to the hype of its citrus and herb marinate. bummer. i have also tried the black and blue burger (not even as good as bw-3s). the burrito is also the kind of burrito you make at home. my sister ordered the vegan burger and said it's just like she popped it in the microwave herself. on a good note, our waitress was really friendly, very attentive, and knew the menu really well.

so why do we keep going back? well, it's the atmosphere. it totally feels like a floridabarto me. they roll back the windows on a sunny day and have tons of ceiling fans. to me, coronas with lime just taste better alfresco. it's nice to be inside, but outside, but inside...

it also has a nice family vibe. parents can enjoy a beer or cosmo (1/2 price martinis tonight!). it's a great place to dine with kids (doesn't become obnoxious). maybe this is why they've been in business for over 20 years? there are also numerous flat panels everywhere, free popcorn, and you can play keno!! fun. just don't expect too much from the food.

your kitchen may even be better, but the beers sure do go down good here.

loved the ambiance... cool open airbarsetting and u can eat peanuts and throw your shells on the floor. service good. food average. potato skins were good and huge!! black bean salad..was excited to order but vry disappointed - it was actually bland despite the ingredients - weird. salsa was essentially just tomatos - not what i expect for salsa, but a good quesadilla. overall, a 3.75 on a 5 scale.

known for their chicken, and rightly so! all ways served, it is done well! enjoy going there at happy hour but it does get very crowded and makes for a long wait if you want to actually be seated for dinner in thebararea. the barrels of peanuts and bottomless popcorn are a good bonus to go with your beer.

this is a fun beachbaratmosphere that can be quite busy. i have had both good and bad experiences with service. the food is generally pretty good - especially the chicken salad croissant. if you like a good chef's salad, i would caution you because this one is kind of small (for $13.99 !) and not what you would expect from a chef's salad. it is mostly a sliced chicken breast, with few very tiny pieces of cubed ham, a bacon bit or two, with shredded cheddar on some nice greens. no hard boiled egg like most chef's salads have. it may be so popular because there are so few places in the area.

great chicken and more. there is a reason this joint is always packed... they serve really good food in a unique atmosphere in an island of homes. this is the place on a saturday night that you go sit at thebar(if you can find a seat) for an hour and have a cocktail or two before your dinner. it is worth the wait, especially in the spring and fall when the weather is perfect and they have the garage door style windows up and the overhead fans going. the food is not groundbreakingly original, it is just well executed americana fare. not sure what to eat, have the chicken with a side of broccoli.... yes broccoli.

always a great atmosphere. this place is always packed, whatever time you visit or drive past the parking lot is full all the time. the atmosphere is always great, the wait staff and very friendly and always try and find you a table as soon as they possibly can. you may have a wait but they always do their best to get you seated. the food is ok, nothing fantastic but it comes out hot and fresh and there is always large portions.
thebaris always full of locals who appear to frequent the place on a regular basis, but i never feel out of place, i am treated the same, in fact several times whilst i have been there i have seen the owner go over to every table to make sure everyone is ok and has everything they need. i would recommend the place for a livelybaratmosphere and the food that whilst not the best i have ever had does what it needs to, fulls you up and leaves you staisfied

terrible service at the bar. if you are looking for a great place to lift a cold one and have some great wings - silver spring house is the place. located on the corner of kemper and snider rd, it's a great little getaway without having to go too far from home--you almost feel like you're on vacation. the restaurant has indoor dining and "outdoor" dining with a great little patio or in the large seating area that is surrounded by huge windows the restaurant leaves open during nice days. chicken is what is on the menu and they do it up great! the wings are a unique style - double dipped and delicious. and the pete's special - a tasty chicken burrito is one of my favorites. the atmosphere is casual & friendly. and they have the best tasting fresh popped popcorn around - just grab a bowlful on the way to your table. the only negative thing about the place is the service at thebar- slow, unfriendly and unaware. i have visited many times so this is not a one time situation on a busy night. in fact, the last time i visited i waited for 15 minutes for a bartender to get me a drink. once i flagged one of the bartenders down, they said i had to ask for a different bartender to get it for me. i decided to leave at that point. service at the tables is much better. overall, though, it's a great value and a fun place to visit.

a local hang-out, standard food. to put it bluntly, this is the local middle-class, middle-age hangout in the area. when we entered, we were given a suspicious look that says "you guys aren't regulars...".

portions are large, but the food is pretty standard. thebaratmosphere doesn't really do anything for me either. i went here primarily to satisfy my curiosity about why this place is always packed. i suppose it's for people who get used to and enjoy the crowd.
