silver spring house

silver spring house; bar food and beer!. since moving to montgomery, i would guess tonight's visit to be about my 8th or so dine at the silver spring house. from the outside, the place looks awesome. beautiful landscaping, a packed lot, and fun umbrella-ed patio. must be good, right?

every time we eat here, tonight included, i am disappointed in the food. tonight, i ordered the "spring house" chicken ($14.95 for half a chicken), the signature item of this proclaimed "chicken joint." a toss salad comes before the meal and it's the type of salad you would make at your house with kroger ingredients. just boring and bland. the entree arrives and it doesn't live up to the hype of its citrus and herb marinate. bummer. i have also tried the black and blue burger (not even as good as bw-3s). the burrito is also the kind of burrito you make at home. my sister ordered the vegan burger and said it's just like she popped it in the microwave herself. on a good note, our waitress was really friendly, very attentive, and knew the menu really well.

so why do we keep going back? well, it's the atmosphere. it totally feels like a florida bar to me. they roll back the windows on a sunny day and have tons of ceiling fans. to me, coronas with lime just taste better alfresco. it's nice to be inside, but outside, but inside...

it also has a nice family vibe. parents can enjoy a beer or cosmo (1/2 price martinis tonight!). it's agreatplace to dine with kids (doesn't become obnoxious). maybe this is why they've been in business for over 20 years? there are also numerous flat panels everywhere, free popcorn, and you can play keno!! fun. just don't expect too much from the food.

your kitchen may even be better, but the beers sure do go down good here.

first, if you're not a regular, don't bother going. as other reviews have stated; you won't be welcome. you also will get practically no service. the glasses are steam cleaned, which seemsgreatbut they aren't given time to cool before being used to serve. the result is warm, flat beer. the food is so-so, certainly not worth the hassle to get. i've been here 4 times with various groups and have never had a plesant experience.

always agreatatmosphere. this place is always packed, whatever time you visit or drive past the parking lot is full all the time. the atmosphere is always great, the wait staff and very friendly and always try and find you a table as soon as they possibly can. you may have a wait but they always do their best to get you seated. the food is ok, nothing fantastic but it comes out hot and fresh and there is always large portions.
the bar is always full of locals who appear to frequent the place on a regular basis, but i never feel out of place, i am treated the same, in fact several times whilst i have been there i have seen the owner go over to every table to make sure everyone is ok and has everything they need. i would recommend the place for a lively bar atmosphere and the food that whilst not the best i have ever had does what it needs to, fulls you up and leaves you staisfied

perfect setting.greatsetting for lunch. amazing they can keep it as comfortable as they do, as many days of the year as they do, with the garage doors open. may seem silly but the free popcorn is awesome here, just something about it. pete's burrito is fantastic and the side of black bean salad and tortilla chips is a perfect match. got o place when entertaining or being entertained.

terrible service at the bar. if you are looking for agreatplace to lift a cold one and have somegreatwings - silver spring house is the place. located on the corner of kemper and snider rd, it's agreatlittle getaway without having to go too far from home--you almost feel like you're on vacation. the restaurant has indoor dining and "outdoor" dining with agreatlittle patio or in the large seating area that is surrounded by huge windows the restaurant leaves open during nice days. chicken is what is on the menu and they do it up great! the wings are a unique style - double dipped and delicious. and the pete's special - a tasty chicken burrito is one of my favorites. the atmosphere is casual & friendly. and they have the best tasting fresh popped popcorn around - just grab a bowlful on the way to your table. the only negative thing about the place is the service at the bar - slow, unfriendly and unaware. i have visited many times so this is not a one time situation on a busy night. in fact, the last time i visited i waited for 15 minutes for a bartender to get me a drink. once i flagged one of the bartenders down, they said i had to ask for a different bartender to get it for me. i decided to leave at that point. service at the tables is much better. overall, though, it's agreatvalue and a fun place to visit.

good restaurant.greatchicken dishes. avoid the restaurant during luck hour rush. we've been here several times and have it enjoyed it with the exception of lunchtime. they are super busy and we believe the cook turns up the heat (literally) and causes the chicken to overbook from the outside and undercooked from the inside. our chicken was raw. when we sent it back, we got a new breast that was not raw, but burnt on he outside. other than that,greatplace to eat.

neighborhood favorite. this is my favorite non-chain spot for a good, normal meal. delicious chicken, as advertised. if the 1/2 chicken dinner is too much for you, you can order a 1/4 chicken--it's not on the menu, just ask the waitress.greatplace to go with the kids, tvs all over the place (especially in the semi-outdoor patio area) and self-serve popcorn and peanuts to munch on while you wait for dinner. parking can be tough on a busy night (any night after 7pm?) but if you have a corvette or another fancy sports car you can pretty much park anywhere you want! (sort of a car show along the curb some nights)

fantastic!. what agreatneighborhood place. the chicken is absolutely to die for! it's always packed, but you can sneak in during off times and get seated immediately. my fiance loves all of the tv's around (more than bw3's) and i love the food. when the side windows are open, it reminds me of being on a beachfront bar/restaurant!greatplace to spend an evening with friends.
