we booked into shed 5 for our wedding anniversary, as apart from being the few top restaurants being open on a monday night, our previous lunch dinning experience last year was very good. we were greeted and seated with an introduction from our waitress who was looking after us for the night. service was impeccable. starters of oyster kirkpatrick was as described with a very tasty grilled topping, venison cutlet was nicely finished and plentiful for an entrée. the duck and ox tongue was initially disappointing as we couldn't find the tongue, when we approached the waiter he advised he would look into it, our waitress then arrived and advised it would be under the duck, under closer examination it was not there at all, the waitress apologised and arrived with an extra portion of ox tongue which was very flavoursome, although the juices from the duck would have completed it nicely. the pork was average a little on the tough side and no crackling but abundance of fat. after finishing a sparkling water with our wine the waitress took the empty bottle away and replace with a fresh one, at $9-00 a bottle it would have been courteous to ask if we required another bottle rather than just deliver it to the table. we shared a dessert of home made ice cream and profiteroles which were a lovely finish.
overall a nice dining experience apart from the main initially being incomplete which you would not expect from this class of restaurant. the price wasgoodvalue for money and no hesitation in going back for lunch or dinner.

had a lovely dinner at popular shed 5. the scallops were small and delicate, the tuna with wontons were delicious- the wontons should be offered as a side dish - they were fantastic. oysters are always a winner.the chowder is agoodportion for a starter. def recommend the choc cake & pear & ginger dessert.

beautifully located seafood restaurant in the heart of wellington’s waterfront.

great wine list: super range across price and style. we had agoodlocal chardonnay and a glass of pinot noir with the cheese plate.

initially disappointed with the limited lunch menu, but the oysters were sublime, and tuna salad was great. the ceviche was ok, probably needed a little more finesse with the knife and a more acidic flavour. calamari was ok. vegetables were a bit ott: greens with soggy bacon and really strong blue cheese crumb.

the cheese plate was fantastic: a reallygood(and amusing) menu, beautiful presentation and incredible cheese. even the cheese to biscuit ratio was perfect: which is extremely rare.

service was solid, but staff didn’t really seem able to explain the dishes they put down.

i would go back for dinner to try the market fish.

great location...good ambience. nice place to dine if you wantgoodfood and the ability to have a decent conversation over a meal (classy not rowdy). the lamb is a must try and they are rightfully well known for it. the duck salad was agoodpreamble to the main meal. the staff is very attentive and they know how to match the meal with the proper wine. the snapper i had wasgoodbut wasnt exactly blockbuster material.

went in for dinner as a company of 3, no booking on a week night but waited only 5 mins until accommodated with a table over looking the wharf. drinks and entrees arrived ingoodtime with no disappointment. 3x ciabatta pockets starter with 3x dips was agoodteaser. mains came out within an appropriate time and with beautiful presentation, mine, the seafood risotto (seasonal). as exactly as the waiter had explained it would be with bursts of citrus here and there, well paired with the pinot gris i had. great service throughout with waiter/waitress asking if okay but not too frequent as to be annoying. shared creme brulee which surprisingly came to a decent portion size, roughly of a bakery pie. was great end to the dinner. reasonable pricing as expected from waterfront fine dining restaurant. would happily go again.

i have finally tried this place last night for dinner and it was the best fine dining i've ever experienced in wellington. we had the atlantic scallops and salmon market fish and they were both very well presented and very delicious. they have verygoodservice. food arrived fast.all their wait staff were very friendly and the waiter who served us was very kind and accomodating. i'm so glad i gave this restaurant a try. i cannot wait to come back to try their other dishes. highly recommend this place!

came here due to a function and whilst the service wasgoodand dishes were of quality ingredients but the meals were all like warm which i think is super poor when a restaurant is set to cater for functions. would i come back again probably not better to just dine casually at crab shack for it is the same kitchen!

here with some mates before a big sporting event (rugby test) so she'd 5 was very busy. it is in a great location, close to city. they managed the crowd well during our visit, the service was excellent and we did not feel like we waited on anything.
food was reallygoodas well, i started with a seafood chowder and it was a food effort. for main i had the duck risotto, it was verygoodand i would recommend it. i will go again.

the mains took over an hour to arrive, and during this time the wait staff were suspiciously absent, as if they were avoiding telling us that there was some delay. anyway, after too long, 5 of the 7 people in our group got their mains, and about 5 or 6 minutes later, the two remaining dishes came. horrible timing!  the food lookedgoodbut that's about it. it tasted horrible. my dish had this flavourless black rubbery stuff all over it, i wasn't sure it was supposed to be eaten but i ate it anyway. later i was told that it was paua. i've had paua many times before and paua does have a reputation of being tough, but man, if the paua is this tough, may as well leave out off the dish. there was also some duck breast risotto thing, one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, and you get about a third of a duck breast, overcooked almost to "shed 5 paua" toughness level, doused in a very rich sauce with nothing creamy to balance it out. overall, won't be going back - for the amount of money dropped at this place, a much better meal could be had elsewhere.

celebrated our second wedding anniversary at shed 5 last night and had a lovely time! we booked through their website which was a breeze and received a confirmation email the night prior so we knew we were all ready to go. the restaurant was quite full for a monday (must be because it was wellington anniversary) and the staff were busy attending to everyone but it never felt as if they were in a rush. they also obliged our request to sit next to the water which was really appreciated and the maître d' wished us a happy anniversary as she seated us.

we had the beautiful warmed bread to begin which arrived within five minutes and our mains were out not long after that. i also tried their sav blanc that was featured in their monthly wine tasting (johner something?) and really liked it. hubby had the savannah angus eye fillet; it looked great and was beautifully prepared while i had the moroccan style market fish (choice of salmon or groper, i chose the latter) which is actually not something i would usually choose as i'm not a big seafood fan but "when in rome..." it was delicious and i was glad i branched out of my usual chicken and steak bubble. our waiter suggested we pair our meals with the rocket salad which we both devoured.

dessert did not disappoint and we should know - we ordered a lot! both of us wanted the valrhona kalingo chocolate mousse but in the interest of sampling more than one dish i ordered the lime and coconut panna cotta. on top of this, hubby also got a couple of the chocolate truffles and i ordered spanish chocolate fudge fig...just cause. everything was really tasty with a lovely variety of textures and flavours. the fig was very boozy and i heeded our waiters advice to save that 'til last lest it overpower everything else. shed 5 also helped to celebrate as they sent out a special dessert wishing us a happy anniversary - nice touch :-)

our waiter was great, too! wish we had got his name but if you get a charming irish lad you'll be ingoodhands. thanks shed 5!

had a terrible lunch here over the weekend.
food took ages to arrive and was average. this is a restaurant where they are trying to be posh but really failing. we had 4 mains to choose from. all of which varied in size hugely, so half the table was starving and the other half couldn't finish the meal. cutlery was dirty, and we had to ask 3 times for a drinks menu, and they only bought 1 to share.staff we under trained and had no manners. to take our order the waitress just said "what do you want", never repeated the order or acknowledged what we had said. and later when meals were put in front of us, we said "thank you" and they said "of course".... what sort of a response is that!!!we were then overcharged as they messed up the bill. having eaten at most of the restaurants in wellington to ensure i can makegoodrecommendations to customers, i will be making sure to remove this from our list and advising of the many cheaper, nicer and more deserving restaurants in town.
