a group of 11 of us dined here for a friends birthday, i was really looking forward to it, as i hadn't been there before. we arrived at about 7.30, it took a really really long time for them to get our orders, to be fair, we were so busy chatting we didnt really notice though. the food arrived at around 9.30, and was utterly delicious, i had the pan fried grouper, it was just beautiful. the food was not the problem. we constantly had to ask the wait staff to show us menus, or catch their attention to order drinks, we did not have a dedicated wait person, and there seemed to be absolutely no coordination between the staff.
simon gault brought out adessertplatter personally for our friend which was wonderful, but no one brought usdessertmenus, we finally waved down someone, and ordered dessert, but after 30mins, i had to go, so cancelled my dessert.
at the counter, the bill was $950, so not sure how they came up with that, when the real total was less than half of that.
simon gault apologised personally for the stuff up, which was appreciated, but i felt like these continuous mistakes and chaos on the floor really ruined my friends birthday.
it was like it was their opening night, i expected much more.

we booked into shed 5 for our wedding anniversary, as apart from being the few top restaurants being open on a monday night, our previous lunch dinning experience last year was very good. we were greeted and seated with an introduction from our waitress who was looking after us for the night. service was impeccable. starters of oyster kirkpatrick was as described with a very tasty grilled topping, venison cutlet was nicely finished and plentiful for an entrée. the duck and ox tongue was initially disappointing as we couldn't find the tongue, when we approached the waiter he advised he would look into it, our waitress then arrived and advised it would be under the duck, under closer examination it was not there at all, the waitress apologised and arrived with an extra portion of ox tongue which was very flavoursome, although the juices from the duck would have completed it nicely. the pork was average a little on the tough side and no crackling but abundance of fat. after finishing a sparkling water with our wine the waitress took the empty bottle away and replace with a fresh one, at $9-00 a bottle it would have been courteous to ask if we required another bottle rather than just deliver it to the table. we shared adessertof home made ice cream and profiteroles which were a lovely finish.
overall a nice dining experience apart from the main initially being incomplete which you would not expect from this class of restaurant. the price was good value for money and no hesitation in going back for lunch or dinner.

overlooking the stunning wellington harbour, shed 5 occupies a historic building which is now wellington’s premier seafood restaurant. when i recently returned for a trip to visit my friends in the city i used to call home, we dined at this luxurious waterfront restaurant and had an incredible dining experience!

the four of us arrived on a monday evening around 8pm to a busy restaurant & bar and warm, lively atmosphere. the restaurant is incredibly spacious, with decor of dark wooden beams and crisp white tablecloths creating a beautiful, classic look, and large windows showing off the gorgeous views of the harbour.

we were seated by a waitress who was friendly, attentive and patient all night long, and more than happy to explain & elaborate on menu choices for us and to share what was on offer. we started with wines before ordering our mains – mine a sparkling rosé.

because shed 5 specialise in seafood, much of their menu is seasonal. one of my friends and i chose the same main, salmon fillet, but with two different sides: 01. with roasted moroccan carrot & chick pea salad / fried halloumi / dates / coriander / lemon vinaigrette / garlic & herb labneh / spiced tomato mascarpone, and 02. with calamari & warmed nicoise salad – green beans / potato / tomato / olive / soft egg / shallot vinaigrette / anchovy & caper butter. i have to say my main was absolutely delicious! i loved the crispy skin of the salmon and juicy, succulent meat and every part of the side, but especially how the crispy halloumi and sweet, chewy dates complemented it.

mydessertwas lime & coconut panna cotta with pineapple & macadamia toffee crumble, fruit salad, mango lassi foam and textures of passion fruit. it was wonderfully flavoured: sweet, but balanced with a creative combination of complementing flavours & textures. not to mentioned aesthetically presented!

we shared our food amongst the group, including my friend’s entree, half a dozen oysters, which were extremely fresh, clean, crisp & succulent, and my friend’s tuna main which was all our favourite of the night. he also ordereddessertwith me, a summer berry trifle, which unlike mydessertwas sweet but rich complemented by the tangy taste of strawberry, raspberry & blackberry.

overall, it was a very memorable dinner at shed 5. coupled with my first dinner in wellington in a year, shed 5 made this dinner extra special with their impeccable customer service, welcoming character and of course, amazing & skilfully made cuisine. i’d highly recommend shed 5 if you are looking for a glamorous dinner with some of the best seafood you’ll ever experience.

salmon fillet $31.50 (x2)

duck risotto $37

summer berry trifle $16.50

lime & coconut panna cotta $16.50

prices excluded: our wines, tuna, half dozen oysters

date night with my girlfriend saw us greeted politely by the waitstaff at this classy restaurant. to kick things off we shared a bottle of bollinger champagne next to some warm bread with a collection of olive oils which went down like a symphony. later we ordered a dozen bluff oysters atop a crushed iceberg (as seen above in the store's profile). these came with science-laby liquid squeezers to extract the lemon juice from their pulpy body parts. overall a fun and enjoyable dish. for the main event, i ordered roasted morrocan seasoned groper with carrot, chickpea salad, and friedhalloumi !!! in the fray also was a side dish of duck fat potatoes with tomato mascarpone and garlic.  the fish was cooked to perfection as well as my old childhood favourite hello-me cheese :) my girlfriend ordered the salmon iteration of the same dish as mine which i was lucky to get to finish for her. this was graced with the well-tempered saltiness that one would enjoy and expect i this price range.dessertsaw us both share a tiramisu salad accompanied with the last drips of our bottle!
if you are searching for a high-class restaurant that offers the fumes of seafood then this place is a beautiful place to treat your special one.

the dine and dash menu is just fantastic! get yourselves down there for lunch!

today i ordered the market fish and bombe alaska for dessert. the today's fish was grouper and it was superb! my mate was a little disappointed because i entered the "can't talk eating" phase. to my defence - there was an amazing fish cake to be had, full of cheesy goodness! om nom nom.
my mate had the beef cheeks as her main. she said the beef cheeks were tender and the mushrooms were 👌.

the hazelnut ice cream (in the bombe alaska) was super hazelnutty, and the blackberry compote and spongey base (possibility hazelnut too?) went together just nicely. i will admit i haddessertfomo as i want to try the affogato with petit fours that my mate had next time. it seemed to be just as delectable.

the service was just amazing, (love your water pouring skills and your smile mr waiter man) and the location is just great! i absolutely cannot wait to dine and dash again!

i brought my partner there to enjoy our first meal as a engaged couple and they took care of us all night! they food was absolutely to die for and even though one meal was under cooked, they still took it off the bill which was very professional. they offered us free bubbles and a free littledessertand had made to order a lovely message for my now fiancé.

sure one meal was a little raw but there customer service was outstanding hence why i'm giving it a review of 5. i highly recommend that you go to shed 5 as their food is excellent!

thank you once again for making our night so enjoyable!

my friend and i went here for a drink anddessertlast night. it is a cool little bar located by the waterfront.

service was good, the gentleman helped us with our drink anddessertchoices. he also meal checked us and kept filling up our water glasses which was great.

we both had the chocolate moose which was really delicious. it had so many different components to it which was nice but not all the flavours went well together.

would definitely come back for a quite drink or two :)

celebrated our second wedding anniversary at shed 5 last night and had a lovely time! we booked through their website which was a breeze and received a confirmation email the night prior so we knew we were all ready to go. the restaurant was quite full for a monday (must be because it was wellington anniversary) and the staff were busy attending to everyone but it never felt as if they were in a rush. they also obliged our request to sit next to the water which was really appreciated and the maître d' wished us a happy anniversary as she seated us.

we had the beautiful warmed bread to begin which arrived within five minutes and our mains were out not long after that. i also tried their sav blanc that was featured in their monthly wine tasting (johner something?) and really liked it. hubby had the savannah angus eye fillet; it looked great and was beautifully prepared while i had the moroccan style market fish (choice of salmon or groper, i chose the latter) which is actually not something i would usually choose as i'm not a big seafood fan but "when in rome..." it was delicious and i was glad i branched out of my usual chicken and steak bubble. our waiter suggested we pair our meals with the rocket salad which we both devoured.

dessert did not disappoint and we should know - we ordered a lot! both of us wanted the valrhona kalingo chocolate mousse but in the interest of sampling more than one dish i ordered the lime and coconut panna cotta. on top of this, hubby also got a couple of the chocolate truffles and i ordered spanish chocolate fudge fig...just cause. everything was really tasty with a lovely variety of textures and flavours. the fig was very boozy and i heeded our waiters advice to save that 'til last lest it overpower everything else. shed 5 also helped to celebrate as they sent out a specialdessertwishing us a happy anniversary - nice touch :-)

our waiter was great, too! wish we had got his name but if you get a charming irish lad you'll be in good hands. thanks shed 5!

came to the shed 5 last night for dinner with a group of 7 friends. here are my comments.

pros :

(1) my cos salad entree at $18 was yummy. it tasted fresh, had nice crunchy bits of grilled bacon and cheese in it. also had a nice soft egg shelled in bread crumbs.

(2) my raspberry trifledessertat $18.50 was lovely.

cons :

(1) my hawke bay lamb mains dish was simply awful!! it was like an old boiled piece of meat sliced up. it didn't taste like lamb at all. definitely wasn't worth the $35.00 charged. very disappointed!!

(2) although the place was very busy, the food still took too long to arrive. our mains didn't turned up till 90 minutes later!!

(3) given that my main dish was terrible, it was quite expensive overall for what i got. my bill amounted to $71.50!!!

one of the best dinner experiences i've had in a very long time.  everything was brilliant from the food, to the decor and atmosphere.  the service was also fantastic – often at high end restaurants the service, though professional, doesn't feel particularly welcoming or friendly, this was not the case at shed 5 – we received brilliant service throughout the night, very friendly, welcoming and overall very enjoyable.  entree and main were very good, dessert(tiramisu) was outstanding.  enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine too at the recommendation of our waiter.  i was out for a birthday dinner with my uncle – my birthday was a week ago – we never mentioned it, but when he checked my id he must've noticed, and bought out an awesome happy birthday artistic dish.  fantastic experience, one of the best restaurants in wellington.

i wouldn’t call myself a seasoned foodie or anything remotely similar, but i’d be lying if i didn’t admit to enjoying writing the odd review on local restaurants i have dined at and visited. opening zomato, tripadvisor or web pages on my phone while on the go, writing a review on my way to work or checking in when i find a spare moment. but enough about me, you are here to read about shed 5, which is exactly the emphasis i was trying to make; that this review was none of the above, a review i consciously blocked time out of my weekend to sit down and write.

it was date night with paris last night, with nothing else on our agenda other than kicking back and enjoying one another’s company, so we had the time to spare to allow for something a little different. after a welcoming and friendly chat with our waitress sue, she returned with a suggestion from the chef to offer a taste from shed 5’s best, an array of dishes and flavours from the menu.

without giving away all the secrets for others who are lucky enough to have a similar experience, we ate our way through a generous offering of the most succulent cuts of tuna, rabbit, duck, lamb and venison, complimented with a palette cleanser between richness of meats and adessertmore beautiful than i will ever be able to create.

there are simply not enough adjectives in my vocabulary to describe tonight’s tastes, presentations, or staff courtesy. my warmest compliments to our waitress sue and our chef zach tinsley who took time out of a very busy kitchen to come speak with us and ask our thoughts on the meal. zach; i was lost for words on the night, so i can only but hope this review reaches you as a small gesture of thanks to what paris and i would not hesitate to call the nicest meal we have ever experienced at a restaurant that i will be telling friends, family and more, is without question; wellington’s number 1.

absolutely loved it. me and my partner went for a dinner here.

we had antipasto for starters, market fish with crab bisque for main which was absolutely delicious..highly recommended! and fordessert we had peanut chocolate mousse with banana ice-cream which was just right for my liking but people who prefer theirdessertsuper sweet this isn't the one for you.

the service was nice even though i felt they turned off the heat pump early which wasn't very ideal thing to do considering its winter! but otherwise totally enjoyed it.

had a lovely lunch at shed 5 with family while in wellington over christmas. the occasion was a birthday and we were a party of 6. firstly, the service here was very good, our waitress was friendly and very attentive. she was knowledgeable about the menu as well. we went straight for the mains and most of us also had a dessert. 3 of us had the tuna, including me. i thought the dish was pretty average. the fish was fresh enough but it wasn't a very good cut. when you cut through seared tuna, the knife should glide through and the tuna should almost melt in your mouth. i didn't experience either of those sensations. maybe the tuna should have been sliced, and then seared. the dish didn't come with much - tomato, basil and mozzarella. not sure that the dish worked as a whole, although i still enjoyed it. it was tuna after all! for the most part, everyone else enjoyed their mains. the birthday boy also ordered one of the entrees to share between us when we were eating the mains. it was the beetroot cured akaroa salmon w/ chilli pineapple carpaccio. wowza! this little dish was amazing. who would have thought that salmon and pineapple could work so well together! on to dessert. i had the fruit salad with ice-cream. well, it wasn't your usual fruit salad and ice-cream, it was fancy! and it was delicious! everything on the plate was extremely fresh, the flavors and textures all worked really well together. i particularly enjoyed the pavlova ice-cream. yum! the entrée and dessert deserve a 5, but the main was a let-down. overall, this place is very good and a great spot for a special occasion.
