sad-ompelled to tell diners of huge change. wow-so so sad to see this classic burger joint andicecream shop change. quality went bye bye. what a shame. much smaller portions. overcooked thin patty. bun was stale and flattened. appeared to be microwaved before it was toasted? bacon at breakfast was paper thin and tiny. several bad dining experiences in a row.icecream - not so creamy anymore. has corn syrup and artificial ingredients on the label. no longer pure good old soda fountain and burger joint. we loved it and dined at both locations for many years. can't say we will rush back unless things change.

things have changed at shady glen. i've always loved shady glen. i started going there with my parents as a toddler, brought my children and grandchildren but now i'll only go for theiricecream. the cheese burgers that made them famous are gone. the cheese it still great but their meat is now 3 (they say 4) oz before being grilled to death. $5 95 is too much for something to tough to chew. now shady glen will be a fond family memory.

just a fun stop for the family. burgers are great with their special cheese flourish and, oh, theicecream. go and enjoy.

living two minutes down the road i have been coming here my whole life (18 years). and i've only ever gotten the cheese burgers andicecream. theicecream is the best i've ever had. and the cheese on the burgers is awesome. but i can't really comment on anything else they have as i have never tried anything else.

come here for the adorable classic diner, not the food which is average at best. i ordered a grilled cheese and side of fries. it was very basic and a little bland. but never mind all that. come here anyway and get someicecream! they have an awesome lunch counter with spinning stools

are you kidding me!. we stopped at shady glen today on our way home from visiting rosewood cottage in woodstock, ct. my husband and i both agreed we could not recall the last time we had food that bad. his "platter" of whole belly clams consisted of a small portion of overdone whole bellies, what appears to be frozen and bagged krinkle fries(and tastes like them) and slaw. the slaw just bearly made it by as the best part of the meal. i opted for the "lobster roll" per the chalk board menu. i got a "lobster salad" roll with whopping piece of romaine lettuce that took up most of the roll. take $5 off the $12.95 price of that baby and you may get your money's worth on the mayo alone. not to mention the solo 1 inch pickle slice adorning my plate. another $3.95 and i got a side of frozen "krinkle" fries. last but not least ouricecream. with all else lost this was the best part of the meal. bottom line,save yourself $30 bucks when you stop here. nix the food and just geticecream.

ice cream good, all else horrible.. this is a retro-50's dairy bar. a great place foricecream sundaes, but do not make the mistake of ordering a meal here, and don't expect a soda drink to be carbonated, a coke sits flat in your glass like kool-aid. the french fries suck, the onion rings suck, and the cheeseburgers are like shoe leather.

small town favorite. this place is consistently fun. theicecream is delicious. and the staff never makes you feel unwelcome. whether you're there for a burger or a sundae (or both) you'll enjoy...
