shady glen

a good place for great food. i loved the ambience of this place. loved thecheeseburger. its a must try for burger lovers and especially with loads of cheese.

things have changed at shady glen. i've always loved shady glen. i started going there with my parents as a toddler, brought my children and grandchildren but now i'll only go for their ice cream. thecheeseburgers that made them famous are gone. thecheeseit still great but their meat is now 3 (they say 4) oz before being grilled to death. $5 95 is too much for something to tough to chew. now shady glen will be a fond family memory.

shady glen still makes their own sodas the old-fashioned way, with flavored syrups and soda water, and amy decides on a vanilla cola. it is sweet and bubbly, and way better than the version coca-cola puts out. chris gets his favorite, a chocolate malt shake, and it is thick and frothy. then comes our plate of shady glen’s famous fried cheese. slices of americancheeseare placed in a frying pan with a little pat of butter and cooked until the sides curl up and thecheeseis melted in the middle while still slightly browned and crisp. four slices of this deliciouscheeseare served on a bed of lettuce with a pickle slice. this is the samecheesethat comes atop their cheeseburger - more on that later.

just a fun stop for the family. burgers are great with their specialcheeseflourish and, oh, the ice cream. go and enjoy.

stuck in a time warp. doesnt matter which shady glen you visit, they are fairly interchangeable.
same menu, same old timey waitress outfits, same weird fried cheese.
did i say weird fried cheese? yah, its like the signature snacking item at this place. you can get it parked on top of some old school prefab burger patty, or you can do what we do and just get the cheese. yes, you can just order that alien, standing up on its own, fried cheese, not fried to the point of crispness, but kinda solidifying, morphing into something not quite of this earth, with a pickle on the side. ( they lost their originalcheesevendor once and the populace went bizerk till they found a suitable replacement.) i'll do that with a side of fries and im all set for a half hour. finish off the experience with a maple walnut sundae, mind blowing good, cant say ive ever ordered a maple walnut anything before, but i get it here, cus its really gooey, and creamy and. . . yah get one.

living two minutes down the road i have been coming here my whole life (18 years). and i've only ever gotten thecheeseburgers and ice cream. the ice cream is the best i've ever had. and thecheeseon the burgers is awesome. but i can't really comment on anything else they have as i have never tried anything else.

bad burger. i had heard so much about the shady glen cheeseburger that i decided i just had to try it. one of the biggest disappointments ever. the burger was overcooked and tasteless. thecheesetasted just like velveeta. the $1 mcdouble is a much better burger and costs a lot less.

shady glen fries were terrible frozen french fries. you want fries, go to five guys. best fries going.

service was bad. the waitress almost didn't care that i was there. when i told her it was the worst cheeseburger i ever had, she just shrugged and took it away. i thought she might offer to reduce the bill or offer something to replace the bad burger.

all in all i rated shady glen 2out of 10.

come here for the adorable classic diner, not the food which is average at best. i ordered a grilledcheeseand side of fries. it was very basic and a little bland. but never mind all that. come here anyway and get some ice cream! they have an awesome lunch counter with spinning stools

blast from the past!. get the cheeseburger - it comes with a "flying saucer" ofcheese& it can't be explained. shady glen is a no frills kinda place & doesn't take credit cards. great for a casual afternoon lunch & save room for dessert!

burgers are okay but the friedcheeseon the burgers is out of this world! milkshakes are fantastic as well.
