sensei is an amazing japanese establishment that was opened by bruce ricketts a few years back. the restaurant has recently been moved to a separate location, also found in b.f. and has also been given a fresh new look and atmosphere.

as for the food, sensei has never failed to disappoint. in fact, since it’s reopening, i believe that the quality of food has significantly increased as well as the flavour of each dish. the tempura was perfectly light and crispy. each sushi that i tried had its own unique flavour, and everything was well balanced. he had unique combinations for each one and the entire meal was an amazing experience. if you ever find yourself in the b.f. area you should definitely stop by! i will for sure come back and try his other specialties!

new location, new menu.

place: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
• modern interior, more spacious, more vibrant and bigger parking space

food: ⭐️⭐️
• this used to be one of the best japanese restaurants for me before that my family was willing to travel all the way from qc just to eat here for sunday lunch. but i don't know, my family and i were all disappointed with the new menu. they removed lots of items from past menu like gyudon(one of the best imo), katsudon, etc. their tonkatsu donburi was bombarded with herbs, the beef stripes of the new substitute for gyudon was a bit salty. lots of unavailable items on the menu including salmon sashimi on a sunday lunch. felt like they prioritized presentation over taste. personally, i'm sad because this used to be one of my favorite go to japanese restos and i felt like that food isn't what it used to be. i just hope they bring back the old menu.

loved the sushi, the makis and sashimi, especially the salmon sashimi! super fresh!

the garlic oyakudon, however, was dissapointing. the garlic was almost burnt and there was too much nori. the original oyakudon is still better.

this would be one of my recommended places for japanese fusion cuisine! the chefs make the rolls right in front of you! such an experience to dine here! recommend their salmon skin roll!

not available, not available, not available. on their specials chalkboard menu, nothing i wanted was available. i'm not talking about their printed menu, this is their daily specials menu. why is it on their menu if it isn't available?

everything we tried was good. the sushi is fresh and meticulously prepared. ebi tempura is made of big juicy prawns. off menu items are also available, just ask the chef for the daily specials.

first time here, and the trip was worth it!!

we ordered a total of 4 dishes:
✅ crispy philly - loved the mix of salmon and asparagus in the roll, sauce is also good. sad it was only 6 pcs
✅ gyoza - no need for a special dip for this cause the sauce all over it was just right for the taste
✅ pork katsudon - very tender meat, really melts in your mouth
✅ tuna and crispy scallop w/ dynamite sauce - first crispy sushi i had, and i don't really like spicy, but this is an exception 💖

overall, why this review lacks one more star is because it's out of the way, and you have to come early since they only open for lunch till 3pm and opens again at 5:30.

place was a bit small but the ambience was good. me and my partner already tried authentic japanese food before and the price here is slightly high compared to the taste of the food. the food was okay. i don’t think we’ll be eating here again but it was a good meal and a good experience.

place is located inside bf subdivision along aguirre avenue and shares the same building/parking with singsing meatshop.

tuna & crispy scallop dynamite (p330) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
amazing flavors! a plate serves 8pcs. love the crispness and the spicy hint to the point that it’s addicting!!!

crispy philly (p230) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
liked this as well, just that a piece is too big for a bite 😅 a plate serves 6pcs.

went here on a sunday night, 6pmish and surprisingly only one table was occupied! parking can be a hassle (typical bf woe) since they share slots with other resto establishments.

service was great and on point 💕

food looked pretty and tasted heavenly.
not your ordinary japanese resto.
highly recommended.

the signage and airconditioning could be improved.

one of those “when in” places. bf feels so far from me and the first time i can in was specifically to try this many years ago. my southie friends were raving about it.

ceviche is amazing. fresh fish with some lemon/vinegar. giant tempura. and fresh rolls.

sensei is definitely one of the best sushi places that i have tried so far! it's a bit on the pricey side but i cannot complain with the quality of the food that they serve! my personal favorite is their off the menu item, sensei-viche which is a japanese-peruvian food fusion, be sure to try that one out on your visit!
