great food with decent service (as long as it's not too busy). lovely homely hipster atmosphere. definitely try to breaky bagel - it's available all day.

expect a wait for weekend breakfast/brunch though!

always delicious. scout has quickly become the social hub for artists in brisbane. each time i visit there is some wonderful creative type digging into a delicious bagel or re-energising with a top-notch coffee.
on my most recent visit i ordered a very basic meal of toast with butter and jam. i was so impressed with the incredible amount of butter melting over my toast when it arrived. the salty creaminess of the butter was perfectly accompanied by the sweet zing of jam.

disappointing. we visited brisbane from melbourne last week. we love eating out for breakfast and we looked for a top-rated place to go. scout had great reviews.
but we were disappointed. there was very little choice on the menu, presentation was uninspired, as was the food (eg. raspberry goop plonked on top of yoghurt, plonked on top of granola with a thimbleful of milk on the side), the coffee was lukewarm and the service was slow. oh, and it was pricey.
did we expect too much, given the foodie city we come from?
well, surely brisbane locals would want to know that they are getting a breakfast that is comparable with the best from australia's biggest cities. it's unfortunate to have to say that it seems brisbane still has a way to go.

worth the wait. after waiting nearly an hour for a table even with the excellent customer service from friendly staff who brought us our drink orders of milkshakes and coffees to drink on the footpath i was starting to wonder if we should go somewhere else. i was very pleased we waited breakfast was absolutely amazing, we had french toast, breakfast bagels and the smashed avocado.

you know the feeling of rocking up to a café that you really want to try and there’s not a table to be had. yeah that. we had no idea scout café would be so popular, but we shouldn’t have been surprised. it’s in a cute old shop on petrie terrace, the coffee is great and we loved our breakfast dishes.

we were directed to wait outside on the footpath and the staff took our orders for coffee to tide us over till there was a table big enough for our group of five. fortunately, there was a free table almost as soon as the coffees arrived, so the expected 20-minute wait was all of about 5.

great brekky. fantastic brekky bagel and the bacon they have is just superb. well presented food and good service. all eggs are fried which was a surprise but not greasy. very mod-american style (sans fries) and the staff look like they are straight from cheer leading classes. great spot.

justifiably popular. i've passed this place several times and noticed how popular it is. no wonder. i tried it out because it was about midway between me and the friend i'd arranged to meet. on a sunday morning, there was a wait for a table and, by the time we'd had our catch-up, people were waiting outside. the coffee was excellent and the food looked tasy. as usual these days, it was a bit noisy. full marks especially for friendly and efficient service. our waiter even brought us fresh water when she saw we were running low. despite the crowds, we weren't subtly encouraged to leave, which was great.

scout's breakfast menu rotates regularly but i believe that they keep a few favourites like the avocado toast and the standard breakfast bagel. some of the other items change completely and a few are just modified. i'd intended to get the breaky bagel because i'd heard that scout do a mean bagel and this one had kaiserfleisch, a cured and smoked german ham, on it and i love smoked ham. but as i was waiting i saw a girl at the counter eating the breaky salad with kale, beet leaves, zucchini, farro, avocado, shallots, sunflower seeds, chilli lemon dressing, soft boiled egg & a slice of rye ($17) and it looked delicious so i decided on that. i wasn't overly hungry and the bagel sounded like too much that morning. n chose the smashed avocado with fetta, herbs, olive oil, lemon on pane ($12) and s went for the spiced pear & walnut loaf with vanilla marscapone ($8).
