they callschoonersthe "last local beach club," and it really is the last of the old open-air hangouts left on the gulf coast. it started back in the late 60's when it was known as "the beach party." in 1985, jim cannon purchased "the beach party" and renamed it “schooners.". every morning,schoonersrestaurant chefs buy fresh local seafood from boat captains and, by lunchtime, they have created a menu of daily specials which make the most of the fresh seafood and fresh local produce. there is a hint of "southern" flavor to the menu with items like gumbo and other blackened dishes from new orleans. here are my thoughts on the visit

love this place. it was my favorite local beach club when i lived there 93-95 and it's my go-to place when i make a yearly visit. and, i recently received excellent customer service from molly and jennifer in getting me a bright orangeschoonersshirt to replace one my brother had worn down to rag status. it was the second one he had worn to pieces, but i hit a snag when they didn't have any in stock and weren't looking to stock that particular color any longer. well, molly worked with managers/jennifer and got another order placed and then went out of her way to get that in the mail to me here in northern virginia. my brother was thrilled as was i. again, molly really went the extra mile to keep me updated with the progress and not even charging me to mail it to my house can't be beat!!

plus, their food rocks, the view is great and it really is an awesome place to hang out!!

if you're thinking about visiting the place, stop thinking and just do it! you won't be sorry!!

bad service, actually, no service.. my boyfriend and i went toschoonersaround 830pm on a tuesday. it was fairly empty so my boyfriend asked the host if we still had time to eat dinner. he assured us that we did and instructed us to sit anywhere we liked. we chose a table near the busiest area of the restaurant and waited for a server. three separate servers walked by our table at three separate times and not one of them even acknowledged us. they clearly did not want to have to wait on us. at that point we decided to leave rather than to subject ourselves to such rudeness. do better, schooners. do better. we will not be returning, which is a shame since we are frequent visitors to the area.

great location great atmosphere.schoonersis a great beachfront bar/restaurant with fun music and very friendly waitstaff. definitely recommend sitting on the high top tables/barstools by the water.. great views of the sunset were a plus. we had the smoked tuna dip which was awesome- must try this! the mahi mahi sandwich blackened. seasoning was way too salty on the sandwich so wouldn't get that again. drinks were strong but not too strong. waitstaff and manager were helpful in suggesting local fun bars. overall a good experience.

great food. visited on tuesday, october 11th, 2001 for lunch. i had the fish tacos which were very tasty and my wife had the popcorn shrimp, also excellent. this place is a blast to visit and the food is always good. the only complaint i had is that a lady walked in off of the beach with a dog. not only was she allowed to keep the dog in the restaurant, but the waitress even brought her a high chair for the dog to sit in. unacceptable.

great lunch. my wife and i had lunch atschoonerson monday of our vacation and were very impressed. the place was very busy, but the service was good and the food was excellent. plus, nothing beats having a relaxing lunch while watching the waves beat the shore. superb!


visitedschoonersagain for 2016 vacation (october).  seems we're never disappointed with this place.  we tried the loco shrimp this year and omg, it was wonderful.  get there early and get a tall booth out by the rail so you can enyoy the sunset.  amazing!  always enjoy the wonderful service!

great time!. went toschoonerslast summer in may of 2010 and really had a good time in pcb. this was, by far, my favorite restaurant. the cannon actually caught me off guard, but the sunset was unbeatable. word to the wise. get there in plenty of time before sunset to get seated. cool bar, great food, fast service and being from the midwest and texas i really go for the place being accessible from the beach. neato!

incredible place. one of the most spectacular sunset evenings we have ever had. the food was incredible and our server was very attentive. there was an incredible band playing and we enjoyed watching the dancing. we have gone toschoonersmany times and it just seems to get better with age.

better than ever. i live in panama city beach, and i've been going toschoonersfor 25 years or so. never had a bad time. never had a warm beer. never had anything but great food and great service. it is my favorite place to hang out on the beach.

love it!. i am a local, and this is one of my favorite restaurants in panama city beach. consistently high quality food served hot and fresh. consistently great service. my go-to favorites are the fried grouper sandwich and the blackened tuna blt.

location aside, i thinkschoonersis a great value considering the quality of the food. take the beach-side ambiance into account, and it's a grand-slam. they have earned my patronage time and time again.
