i always get the grilledgroupersandwich with fries and a sweet tea. it is a must when i come down to the beach

we wanted a place to eat dinner on the beach. this was great. thegroupersandwich was good.

go early! my advice to anyone! this was one of the few places directly on the beach. thegrouperis good, the lobster corn bisque is very good but it had red bell peppers that totally bummed me out. it distracted from the seafood flavor.

i had thegrouper(lightly blackened).
....lightly blackenedgrouperwith cheese grits. so amazing i could eat it again tonight. wow.

my husband had grilled mahi mahi. lightly blackened mahi mahi. excellent!!

back again this year!! never disappoints. great live music and again, excellent food!!

good food but small portion. we went here because of the reviews and the place is awesome right on the beach and we watched the sunset. my fiance got the grilled dinner with shrimp and mahi mahi and i had the fried oyster dinner. he had a very large portion of food, mine was good but very small portion. i would suggest to get the fried sampler that has shrimp,grouperand oyster its a little more expensive but according to our waiter it a lot more food. the drinks were good and our waiter was really attentive and good. we will be returning on our next visit.

save your money and don't eat here!! overpriced nasty food! thegrouperwas disgusting, full of bones and extremely fishy! the grits were a disgrace to southern cuisine. save your money and don't go here. i never write reviews, but the food was so bad i had to.

frickin awesome place to eat, drink, and hang out. bestgroupersandwich on the planet. great atmosphere and friendliest staff i've even been served by. rum runner is the bomb!

a jewel in the sand. it's hard to find old school joints that are right. on. the. beach. we arrived right at 4:30 on sunday and barely got a parking spot/table....go early. the great news it was on the less windy side of the porch with a great view of the beach/sand/sun. take a coat in if its windy.

our service was great. we had a super-young server but you wouldn't have known it by the service (sorry, small-blond-pony-tail-super-blue-eyed-girl, forgot your name). we literally had our drinks in 40 seconds and the place was 3/4 packed and everything came with an easy smile from the server.

good job in the kitchen, too. the food came out hot, flavorful, and in 5 minutes. i read that thegrouperwas "where it's at" so i got the blackenedgroupersandwich, substituting the black beans & rice for fries. the fish was really good....there was no charge for my substitution. the sleeper on the plate was the beans and rice. there's no fear of seasoning in this place! the salt was perfect and the heat was bold but not overwhelming.

yes, you pay a little more for a sandwich than on the back beach road but they have to compete with condos & (i'm guessing) rising real estate prices to stay there and give you the view you really want. put schnooner's address in your navigation and go......

okay.. atmosphere is nice. server was efficient and friendly. not many choices. we had thegrouperbasket. it was okay but portions were small. my ten year old had the gumbo and he liked it. my family tends to like local dives more than popular tourist places. many people recommended schooners. we really didn't think it was all that. the deck dinning by the beach was great. maybe a drink and appetizer kind of place.

you won't mind if you're drunk!. we ate here about two years ago, after being told by new friends we met on the beach, it was good. arrived around 7:00 and waited over an hour to be seated. we were ushered into a very crowded room to the back of the restaurant that had a great view, but the seating was pitiful--high barstools with no back support. we waited another 20 minutes for our waiter to greet us and take our food and drink order. i ordered the grilled mahi mahi and ceasar salad. ceasar salad was warm and limp and loaded with dressing. gag. the mahi mahi (deck of cards size) was good but only served on a piece of lettuce--nothing else!!! $18 for that entree!! my husband and son had thegroupersandwich and fries which they liked, but portions of both were small. we will never eat here again as a family. i just wanted a decent, fresh, seafood meal and they did not deliver. atmosphere is for drinkers who don't care about the food or service. service was poor--saw waiter twice--he apologized for being so crazy busy. save your hard-earned money and eat somewhere else.

schooners restaraunt is definitely a great family place for lunch. i ate there this afternoon and had the grilledgroupersandwich. the sandwich is one of the best i've had.

not family friendly at all. heck not even really friend friendly. i couldnt hear my peeps on the other side of the table unless the chick that was there was done singing. everyone else's food was good. however i got the sautéed shrimp. first, i thought it was ridiculous they made you peel the shrimp considering how readily available peeled and devained shrimp is. secondly. they overcooked my shrimp and it was almost impossible to peel. third as for spiced it was cooked with, there were none! it was just thrown into a bowl of melted margarine. thegrouperwas great though. the clam chowder was delicious. over all pretty good food, but atmosphere really brought it down for me.

love it!. i am a local, and this is one of my favorite restaurants in panama city beach. consistently high quality food served hot and fresh. consistently great service. my go-to favorites are the friedgroupersandwich and the blackened tuna blt.

location aside, i think schooners is a great value considering the quality of the food. take the beach-side ambiance into account, and it's a grand-slam. they have earned my patronage time and time again.
