it’s actually a perfect place for a date. go for a walk along the canal, sift through the mountains of fresh fruits and vegetables, stick your nose in some flowers and spend a few bucks to impress your lover-to-be with your exotic appetite for adventure. don’t bring anyone with serious peanut allergies, as they literally cook with 1000lbs of peanuts per day. you don’t want to spend your first date in the er, do you?

...i scuttled up to their menu, wary of what i’d find. i was all on the defensive as i’d recently gotten burned in toronto with a highly disappointing meal from a downtown restaurant purportedly serving singaporean food. i had my mental gun all primed to fire vitriol at satay brothers’ menu.

i had heard a lot about the brothers last summer already but didn’t have the chance to make it to the atwater market to taste their concoctions. when they made a comeback this summer, i headed there right away. i was blown away by how good the food is. set up in the outdoor (covered) part of the atwater market, the two brothers, mat and alex are dishing out amazing singaporean street food with help and inspiration from their mother.

little summer gem hidden within the atwater market. everything on the menu is delicious and different, full of flavor yet subtle. discovering this place unexpectedly was a real treat. i can honestly say that this place blew me away... never had anything like this before. you owe it to yourself to try this joint.

great south-asian grub. pork buns are out of this world. super friendly staff and dirt cheap (lunch for 2 = $25).

...the satay brothers has been garnering a lot of buzz in the montreal food scene lately - and rightfully so. serving south asian food, the menu is short but sweet and filled with authentic singaporean items.

what i do know is that it’s a good summer alternative for a street-food-less city and something different worth trying. so, if you want in, you know what to do.
