really good hotel restaurant. normally i don't eat at hotel restaurants. about the only time i do is if i am just too tired to go out. to me eating at the hotel is sort of like going to chili's or applebees when you are out of town when there are so many other places to go. i've stayed here a few time and have always been amazed as to how many people are always in the safari room. the happy hourmenuand bargain prices have always intrigued me but had never tried it.

the place is good, the service is excellent, and their 3-course meal for $17.95 is probably subsidized just to get you in there and to buy some drinks, but for whatever reason this is a place you should try even when you aren't staying at the hotel. they also advertise they will validate your valet parking if you eat here, so you can avoid the parking hassle downtown.menuisn't huge but all the choices look to be well thought out and good choices.

not a huge menu, and portions aren't huge but they are good and definitely a full meal for $17.95. deserts are in tiny cups but are a nice completion to the dinner. upscale crowd, good service. i haven't been to the $6 lunch but after having the $17.95 dinner i'm guessing it is also a fantastic deal.

this isn't meant to be a back handed compliment, i just really really don't like hotel restaurants so am biased against them, but this one is the exception, it actually is a good restaurant that happens to be in a hotel.

nice menu, smallish portions. i've been to palm court grill and the peacock room several times, but i haven't eaten at s.r. in at least 5 years so was really looking forward to dinner, and a show at the bing. the short booths are a comfy size for two, i hate those skinny deuces in most restaurants. beer is served in mugs which we're not sure holds 20 ozs but happy hour makes them cheaper so that's good. themenuhas some fun things like fried okra and southern fried chicken. i ordered those and my honey had the fish and chips. i've heard if you fry okra it's not slimy. i think now it's unavoidable. let's call it a one-time trial. the fish was fresh- tasting and had the same batter as the chicken so you can tell it was not pre- battered. i wouldn't expect any less here. coleslaw is very fresh and crunchy, the dressing is just right. don't let the appearance deceive you. the mashed potato and gravy tasted just like i wanted; fresh, real, but not nearly enough of it! too few -skinny- asparagus is typical for this kind of plating and tasted great, but i was hoping to dig into an awesome pile of southern gluttony and real value. the chicken was tasty but the thigh piece was red, underdone inside. i showed it to jill, she asked if we wanted anything else (no, our show is starting), okay here's your bill, have a good night. (??) we will be back however for happy hour and a few other enticing things on the menu.

disappointing. my husband and i went to the safari room a few nights ago during spokane's "restaurant week". we had reservations but arrived early so we sat at the bar for a while it's a fun, lively atmosphere. drinks were great and we enjoyed our time there. then we moved to the restaurant for dinner. things went downhill from there. first we noticed that the restaurant was basically empty even though it is "restaurant week". my husband chose from the $28 restaurant week menu. i chose from their standard 3 course $17.95 menu. my husband ordered the beet salad, scallops as the main course and 2 of the mini desserts. i ordered the caesar salad, salmon for the main course and 1 mini dessert. we realize that for discounted prices you won't get the most expensive items from themenuor the largest portions which is fine. but for $28 my husband got a small salad (okay), but the scallops, while tasting okay, consisted of 4 tiny scallops with a few tiny cubes of butternut squash and some onions. it was more like an appetizer portion than a main course. he was still hungry after dinner. my portions for both the salad and the main course were more generous than my husband's even though it was the $17.95 menu. but sadly the lettuce was not the freshest and the salmon was dry and overcooked. so the amount of food was better but not enjoyable. the mini desserts are as their name implies and are basically served in shot glass. one of them, german chocolate cake, was still partially frozen but the other two, key lime and chocolate mousse were okay. overall a disappointing experience at a place we thought would be a good choice to take advantage of restaurant week in spokane. we thought the purpose of restaurant week would be to whet folks' appetites and make them want to come back for more by showing off their delicious offerings. didn't happen. we may go back to the bar for drinks and perhaps try their flatbread pizza or appetizers but won't be dining there anymore.

i have eaten at the safari room many times at the davenport tower. today i am a guest at the hotel and just had breakfast. the food and service are ok but you never know what you are going to get sometimes it is fabulous and sometimes it's mediocre. they do have a great drinkmenubut the evenings can be very busy and loud with not enough wait staff. all in all it's an ok place.
