don't go.. having visited this restaurant i would strongly advise not going due to the poor quality of food. secondly the service is appalling. thirdly the operators have no respect for anyone but themselves. their lack of respect to their neighbors is astonishing. there are far better pizza joints run by far nicer people.

very popular pizza place. no ham and pineapple, no half half pizza's here. booking is highly recommended.
the location is far from the main road and its in a unusual location, i don't know how anyone knows about it.

the margherita pizza was probably the best out of the 4 pizza's we had. the della casa pizza was quite spicy. all the pizza's are thin based and not all are tomato based pizza's. the pizza's are better than other places but it also depends on your taste for pizza, the topics are not piled on like other places but then again its not suppose too.

the anti pasto was nice but i found it pricey. the tiramisu was nice and a large portion. the ambience, its a small place and its actually a little cramped but they do have nice paintings on the wall, and parking can be a problem.

service was a little mixed, they didn't hear the order for one pizza and they apoligised and the pizza did come soon after that. the waiters/waitresses were quite attentive but also a little over the top, asking if we want something to eat and feeling a little pressure to order something before the ovens closed.

value: its reasonably priced if not a little expensive for what you get but thats just me being picky. overall a good experience, though i feel a little generous with the scores i've given.

rosso pomodoro pizzeria is a popular restaurant in the up-and-coming suburb of balmain which serves a range of traditional and artisanal pizzas. the proliferation of pizzerias and other italian restaurants in sydney can be traced to the waves of migrants from mediterranean countries during the 1850s gold rush. how does rosso compare to heavyweights like hugo's manly and gigi?

in my opinion, pizzas at rosso fall flat (literally) of the competition. i tasted the fungi pizza (in restaurant) and nutella calzone (takeaway) but was disappointed with both the taste and the crust. the funghi pizza is huge but its thin crispy crust is unable to support the weight of all the ingredients and becomes a mushy mess. furthermore, the crust at the edges is so thick that it resembles a bread. the problem with the crust extends to the nutella calzone. the crust is so thick that i spend a thousand years trying to chew the bread-like pizza and my jaws hurt like a limp, flaccid machine afterwards.

nonetheless, the nutella calzone is probably the most sinful dessert in sydney. topped with a thick and rich layer of nutella and almond flakes, i am utterly surprised to discover an even thicker layer of nutella in the interior of the calzone. all the gym and healthy food have gone to waste!! it seems like the pizza chefs have used a whole bottle of nutella to make this calzone!! 😵😵😵

from bad to worse... i have always loved good pizza, from the younger days traversing the globe, and sampling the expression, of what is in someways the global cuisine. so this review is one which is hard to write, as i have eaten with the team at the little hole in the wall in white bay a number of times, and most of these visits were great, the service was always unskilled but friendly, the food fast and fun, and the atmosphere - well lets just say, don't try to have your first date there and its great ...

the last visit however was the complete opposite to this, the service was rude and abrupt, the food was a piece of cardboard masquerading as a pizza, and the atmosphere was likened to a zoo, rather than a quaint diner. we had to wait for 45 minutes for the food, and had to wait a further 25 minutes for our limp salad. i would like to say there was a saving grace in all this but, it was no where to be seen. even when paying i mentioned this in passing to the manager / cashier who not only said "it couldn't be helped, they were busy". but a moment later obviously passed this information onto the chefs in italian, so they too could laugh at the complaining customer.

i do live quite close by, and loved the idea of such a great place being in my hood. but it will be a very very long time before i can get that taste out of my mouth, and will be resigned to the drive over the bridge to visit the other two greats ...

staff were a bit abrupt, our table was given to a couple before we arrived so we had to wait for a different table. pizza was ok. got soggy straight away. no normal kids drinks and no high chairs. not a very welcoming place for a family to be honest. quite loud inside also. lots of other better pizza places to go to.

it's pretty quiet early on a weeknight. we were the only table until 6:15 but the service was prompt and friendly.

we were famished so we got 2 pizzas between the 2 of us, which turned out to be doable. their pizza is thin crust so wasn't too bready and filling. we got a tomato based sausage pizza that was on special and the white base della casa pizza. the pizzas came one after another.

the tomato based pizza was delicious but a little wet at the centre. the white base pizza was delicious. generous with toppings and fresh ingredients. the mozzarella they use is stringy, springy and delicious.
both pizza's crust was nicely charred and crispy.

we'll definitely come back again!

rosso pomodoro is my favourite pizzeria in sydney. we have been eating there since 2006 and it never disappoints. the pizza bases are thin and the toppings are always seasonal and very italian. they don’t do ham and pineapple and they don’t do half half. it’s casual and now licensed but you can byo. the service is always excellent. it’s the perfect week night treat. #rossopomodoro

i came here with my mum and sisters and got a table facing outside. the service was outstanding and they had a great time.
the margeret is pizza rivals some of sydney’s greats.
we also had the yummy bruschetta and the lasagne.
place is also byo.

started out with the antipasto della casa, and it had a wonderful selection of cured meats, cheeses, bread sticks, and fresh olives. the highlight of the dinner was the tartufo pizza, and it had more than a generous serving of truffles. hopefully it will make its way on to their permanent menu, as this was on the specials board. excellent authentic italian food.

the pizza was great. however, they explained to us we couldnt drink the beer we had brought as they offer beer on the menu. byo wine was allowed (which is also sold on the menu?). a glass of red wine was accidentally spilt on us by the waitress but we were still charged for corkage. excellent food, not great service.

really good pizza here! thin base and puffy crusts, they also have vegan options. i ordered the vegetarian pizza which was yum, i think i would probably get a spicy/salami option next time.

oh i’m sorry, were you looking for an average pizza place? how about the best pizza place in the world! everything about rosso oozes genuine italian, from the service, to the byo wine, to the simple yet amazingly satisfying pizza. i recommend starting with olives and creating your own board, the jamon is expensive but well worth it, get a couple of cheeses but avoid breadsticks so not to fill up prematurely before the pizza.

and make sure to leave room for desert, specially made cheesecakes fresh every day and a modest selection of gelato will leave you wanting to come back just for the desert.
