1) it's byo 2) their pizza is bomb diggity! thin base with a crispy crust, soft melting pizza with fresh and tasty toppings, not to mention it came out super fast and piping hot 3) its not in the city, but it's close enough that you can see the city. go here with your girlfriends with a few bottles of wine before a night out in the city. the waiters are cute ;)

had a few different pizzas from rosso and yet to be disappointed. often make my own pizza dough and its certainly worth proving the dough for at least a day. the extended prove is the trademark for rosso and it makes for a pizza that let's the toppings take centre stage with no over full feeling at the end. great tomato sauce base also. yum!

we visited rosso pomodoro this evening for some pizza and drinks. i called an hour before visiting the store for a booking and we were given a table for the three of us.

we ordered the margherita classica, diavola and the special- rustichella. all three pizzas were great! traditional pizza with a crisp base and crust with top quality toppings. the pizzas came out fast too! the restaurant was packed albeit 2 empty tables but we got our pizzas within 7 minutes!

staff are also very friendly and warm. awesome pizza place!

the best sydney's pizza so far.
other more fancy pizzerias don't get the same goodness.
some clients reviewed the pizza as soggy but that is like we love it in italy, it is not soggy, it is beautiful. recommended.

consistency unseen in most capital cities, amazing antipasto, tasty authentic pizza, and now licensed (& byo) meaning a negroni can be enjoyed pre meal ...

some nights just call for pizza, that most uncomplicated of meals. there's a lot of unnecessary claptrap written about pizza, critiquing it's authenticity, the elasticity of the dough, the type of oven used, etc, etc. to me it's not a dish that merits much analysis. it's just pizza.

all over the world, even in italy, pizza generally falls into three categories: bad pizza, acceptable pizza and good pizza. i'd say 85% of the world's pizzas fall into the acceptable category. it's unremarkable, but perfectly fine pizza. 10% ranks as bad. which leaves just 5% laying claim to being a genuine cut above; a superior version of this simple street-food staple. and the superiority usually lies in the chef's understanding and acceptance of the dish's simplicity.

i'd say sydney has between 10-20 pizza joints which sit in that top tier, and rosso pomodoro is certainly one of them. improbably located in balmain's soulless stretch of modern apartment buildings near white bay, the restaurant brings a rare jolt of life to a district that otherwise lacks it. with its bright broadway "pizza" sign and a room full of red plastic chairs, rosso pomodoro signals from the get-go that you're not here for fine dining. in fact eating out couldn't get any less complex: you have a choice of pizzas, a small choice of salads, and an even smaller choice of antipasti. my tip is to plump straight for the pizzas. the margherita is a ripper and, if you're a buffalo mozzarella buff like me, then trade up to the margherita regina which comes topped with creamy shreds of bufala and juicy cherry tomatoes. they also do a good and proper diavola here with a seriously hot salami. it might just be better than the version at lucio's.

the atmosphere is boisterous, the service is terrific, and on top of that you can also byo. i wouldn't cross town for it, but if you're in this part of the world and you want to get back to basics, you could do a lot worse than pull up a red plastic chair at rosso pomodoro.

it's been too long since our last culinary affair with rosso. funky new chairs, and a bit of a tidy up generally. the food sings - pizza of the absolute highest order. we start with insalata caprese- the buffalo mozzarella is superb. delicious, creamy, perfect. but wait. in walks the margherita pizza and the diavola pizza. the margherita is arguably the most difficult to make - there's nowhere to hide. but this walks with swagger. it doesn't say a word - it just knows.

the diavola is however outstanding. piccante salami, on a very simple, efficient base, garnished with some roast capsicum. yum. this is a rockstar.

the real art starts with the perfect base, and the mozzarella brings it home. perfection.

and the service is slick, the atmosphere a real inner city buzz. 10/10. privileged to call it our local.

tip for the uninitiated - do not take the pizza away. eat in. else you've missed the symphony being performed at the concert hall. it will sound flat, and you'll always wonder what the fuss was about.

oh, and no half/half and no pineapple. don't mess with napoli.

i feel like i'm back in italy. the atmosphere is loud but friendly and the pizza is perfect....my fiancé went as far as to say the "best pizza" he has ever had and i agree!!!! typical italian pizza where less is more. every bite was amazing even the crust!!

hands down the best pasta in my life!!!!!!! i have no clue what they put in this sauce but i can taste olives but i can't see them. words can't even explain how good this is. they only do 1 pasta so you know they have perfected it, order this!!!! it's the ricotta and tomato pasta

you must go here....if not for the fact that it's cheaper then an airfare to roma 🇮🇹😜

went here tonight based on reviews. pizza was not that great. first our bases were very soggy, second there is hardly a trace of cheese on the pizza! what's a pizza if you can't taste the cheese. one huge issue was there was a hair in my pizza, showed the waitress, she seemed shocked but didn't say anything, she took my plate and gave me a new plate. no apologies from anyone about the hair. than we ordered nutella pizza. the base was so thin and over cooked that it was crunchy like potato chips. every single piece. would not waste my time going here again! highly disappointed.

great pizza. delicious flavours. dessert was a let down. our italian donuts were ice cold in the middle. seated quickly, efficient service. if you've booked for the first sitting, they won't let you linger which is fair as there are people waiting for their 8pm sitting.

firstly, rosso pomodoro is unquestionably in the elite category of pizza makers in sydney, and for that matter in australia. so in 2011 when they added a truffle pizza to their menu, the food public and media instantly took notice. they currently move close to 150 per week, so the $40 price tag is not spooking either their regulars or newcomers, as clearly the quality delivers to that price point. the aroma of freshly harvested and spectacular local tasmanian truffles, is totally enhanced by the sublime texture and earthy flavour of the truffle imparted through the eggs, which have been stored with those truffles to complete the overall sensory experience on the palate. add the rich mouth feel of decadent speck with buffalo mozzarella, and you simply have the perfect pizza in my opinion. trust me, try it once, and you will be back every year for more…
