rocket 88

one of my favourite hangout spots in pta. i go to rocket frequently and have always had great food and service. menu has a good variety of unique options which are based on the "afrikaans" heritage which you cannot easily find at other restaurants. they also do some drinks specials which is great for a couple of after work drinks with your colleagues.

rocket 88 is quite a popular new hangout in the area. strangely enough the centre where they opened used to be quite dead and the previous restaurant always seemed empty, but since rocket 88 opened it has been buzzing and busy almost every night. the menu is quite original, but with space for improvement to be a bit more vegetarian friendly. eitherway, the place has a great vibe and is ideal for the younger market.

a firm favorite of our office. i like the idea create your own plate. i just love a "braai broodtjie" i love their lamb chops! i might have gotten stuck on it, and its my favorite thing to order.

everything is cooked to perfection and a medium rare is a medium rare! its really cheap you can even build your own boerewors roll for 30 bucks not a place where "i will take date" but such a cool cheap place for a few mates from the office.

first time at rocket 88. loved it. food is reasonably priced and delicious, vibe is good and did i mention the 3l castle lite beer tower for r100 😆

stepping into rocket88 you can't help being swept up by the buzzz. clearly everyone loves this place as it's packed. decor not my cup of tea but man......the food is awesome. anything from steaks through to afrikaans treats like jaffles with fries. i can recommend their cheesegriller & stokbrood. love it. their service is great and overall i enjoy them.

i was really interested in coming to eat here as it is up the road from my house and is always full of people.

my partner and i decided to have lunch there one afternoon. we wanted to get a little bit of everything and share it so we could taste, well, a bit of everything.

our waiter was quite incompetent and got our order wrong, even after he repeated it a few times. i'm not sure if he had a problem hearing us or what was wrong, but it seemed as if he didn't really know what was going on.

we ordered the pampoen koekies, without the caramel sauce as i am insulin resistant, the skilpaaitjies, the boerewors roll and the bobotie.

the pampoen koekies arrive covered in caramel sauce, so i couldn't taste them. my partner said that they were delicious though. i was quite annoyed.
we had a piece of boerewors on our plate instead of the boerewors roll. the skilpaaitjies were amazing and i could have ordered more. the bobotie was also really nice and we both really enjoyed it.

i won't go back in a hurry as it's not really my type of place, but i wouldn't mind going back just for the skilpaaitjies.

they need to work on their service.

rockett 88 bar & braai is popular and for good reason. we sat outside and enjoyed the late winter sunshine. i love that one chooses one's own combinations of food from the menu.
lamb chops, grilled on the braai with boereboontjies: green beans, sliced finely and stewed with potato & onion. delicious, delicious, delicious!
the children had pampoenkoekies (pumpkin fritters) and potato bake as sides - all tasty.
service was friendly (rachel) but the food took ages to come. one is warned on the menu that it takes at least 30 min!

afrikaanse styl braaivleis met kies-jou-eie-kombinasiespyskaart. vleis vanaf groenkloof slaghuis.
wonderlike bykos. groenboontjies, pampoenkoekies en aartappelgebak soos ouma dit maak. en braaibroodjies. heerlik! kos 4.5/5!

this was my first visit and i really enjoyed the food. i like the fact that you can add your own extras and dont juat have to choose between chips rice or veg. i had the ribs and shared the extras of pumpkin fritters garlic bread creamed spinach and mushrooms. everything was very good

this is my 5th visit introducing 3 different groups to this place and every time it is a positive experience with great tasting food. i wil definitely be back

slow service,waiters knowledge about restaurants beverages is shocking, average food that is over priced for what you get.heard a lot of good things about rocket 88 but after yesterday night i have my doubts.

lunch at rocket 88. really good place for a casual lunch. had the t-bone with a "braaibrootjie": (simply superb). asked for medium-rare, and got it. my companion tried the rump (which wasn't good) with pap and relish. so we complained and it was replaced (without complaints) with rump that was up to standard. that is good. so i like the food (it is tasty and good value for money, even though there was quite a price hike the past month or six. but what really irked me was the fact that they put a service charge on my bill even though they know that i allways tip well for good service... so i like the place (good food, good service), but again i will stay away for quite a while because i was irritated by what they did on the bill... could have been rated a 4.

i absolutely love this restaurant! and by the look of patrons queueing at the door, every person in pretoria feels the same! it was jam-packed and i definitely now know why. the food is typical 'afrikaans' culture. braaivleis with side that typically are served at a braai. some items are very well-priced, some are a little over-priced for what you get. the chicken fillets are the best i have ever eaten- i haven't had anything that even comes close! unfortunately the skilpadjies were sold old so that was a bit disappointing.
the service was great and the waiter was really friendly and experienced.
i cannot wait to go back for more!

there are quite a few options on the menu and really delicious food. had jaffels and it was wonderful (can't remember when last i had jaffels so it was a nice change from the ordinary). cocktails were very good and the waiter was very attending to all the diners. i can really recommend rocket 88.

so we came to rocket 88 not knowing what to expect and basically drawn to it out of pure curiosity as it always looks vibey on weekends. what we found was quite amazing! great south african braai flavours, thats what! great steaks, chops, chicken wings and even wors! all can be ordered in custom combinations and then topped off with traditional braai sides such as potato salad or my personal favourite a "braai broodjie" or even just traditional chips or salad! the prices are also excellent so you never have to hold back on portion size if you're a big eater! the decor is very pub style and rugged, with posters of old bands which adds to the experience. a very cool concept in general.

we have cappuccino and a breakfast that was very fresh one breakfast was rocket 88 breakfast mine was a small one very nice and scrumptious. .......
