bbq on the cheap. i've been to rj's a few times and always enjoyed it. thefoodis generally always pretty good, and the service is friendly.

today i got the carryout lunch special: a small sandwich and fries for only $3.99. that is a price that is hard to beat. the meat was good, but the sauce had a slightly medicinal taste (both the hot and regular had this) that i couldn't quite pinpoint. don't get me wrong, i ate the whole thing and was very satisfied but just surprised by that quality of the sauce. i don't recall tasting it before, but it has been quite a while since i my last visit so who knows.

the fries were tasty and had a pretty good tasting seasoned salt on them.

overall, i would recommend rj's if you're in the area or are looking for a decent bbq meal on the cheap

service was horrible.. our waiter seemed like he hated his life... he was so rude and never came to check on us.foodwas horrible, sauce is gross!

i friend of ours told us how great the breakfast was. so we along with another friend and kids went. we ordered the farm breakfast and brunt end hash. all of ourfoodcame out cold even the eggs. the only thing warm was the free cinnamon rolls. after spend 45.00 i will not be back.

cozy and fun atmosphere, good for kids as well. very nice staff. thefoodwas fresh, served in a timely manner and absolutely delicious. definitely recommend the ribs and their soups are surprisingly hearty and filling. can't go wrong with basically anything on their menu. terrific barbecue restaurant, one that stands out in a city full of great ones. very impressed.

nope!. someone call thefoodinspectors because they are putting crap in a box. i decided to stop in to grab a sandwich to go and you can't do that. you must get the sandwich with a side. my assumption is so they can compensate for the small and flavorless sandwich portions. i got the 'boneless rib sandwich'. well they were right about the no bones but they were kind enough to throw in all the cartilage from the rack as well. i got to pick it out of my mouth every other bite (the wife loved that). if you like the mcrib then this is right up your alley. the sauce was horrible! and the can of soda was a very reasonable $1.47...?

first, the ribs, st. louis style, dry and burnt to the point of being crunchy. absolutely the worst ribs i have ever had, anywhere, including backyard bbqs with relatives!
crab gumbo, ok but very bland.
signature jalapeno sausage $5.95, very small, unremarkable, bland.
i wanted the waitress to explain to my wife the difference between baby back, spare ribs and st. louis, (all were on the menu) she had no clue!
she wanted to know what side we wanted with the rib slab, i told her the menu said whole slabs were ala carte, she insisted i was wrong so we ordered the cajun rice pilaf. nearly inedible, not because of the hot spice, i like it hot, it just tasted bitter, powdery and terrible.
you can guess what comes next, we were carged extra for the rice!
yeah, i didn't request that was coming off our bill, i told her it was coming off.
my wife hates thefoodchannel, i will be hearing about this for a long time.

we've tried it 3-4 times. thefoodis acceptable, but we always have horrible service. we keep trying it thinking one time it's going to amazing and blow or minds. hasn't happened and after the worst service in history today, we are officially never going back.

great bbq!. read all of the comments on line and thought that i would give it a try....a super cool place with a lot of "atmosphere." a quaint place and the volume offoodis great! very tasty and fries were very not, but the meat could have been a little warmer, but very tasty with a smokey flavor. on monday's, they have a 1.99 pabst blue ribbon special...what more do you want?? would go back there in a heatbeat, and prices are very, very reasonable

brisket burnt end hash. on toast, pile brisket burnt ends, potatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms and then top with two over easy eggs. it's one of my top 5 all time favorite things i've eaten and has been since i first tried it. fabulous hangover food.

love the country music oldies they play in the mornings during breakfast.

fries - won best in kc a few years ago. they toss them in the bbq rub after coming out of the fryer.

sweet potato fries - i think they are just frozen fries, but i love them anyway.

the soups and sides are all pretty great.

they have a really great sauce too. well balanced with a hint of sweetness and fruit. my wife loves the hot version.

great lunch place, order the little one (3 oz sliced meat sandwich) and fries carryout special (currently 3.95) and you can get out of there with just the right amount offoodand spend about 3 dollars less than if you went to wendy's. it's a great deal.

not what they used to be. terrible service. i walked in with my son on friday and no one greeted us. after an uncomfortable delay where we tried to decide if we should seat ourselves, a waitress called to us from behind the counter and pointed to a booth for us to sit in. we sat down and decided on our drink order. no one came to take our order so we went ahead and decided on ourfoodorder. still, no one came. the waitress that told us to sit down came over and asked the two tables next to us if they wanted drink refills then walked directly past us. we'd probably been waiting about 5 minutes and no one came to take our order. it's not like they were busy - aside from us there were only two other tables of 2 or 3 people. my son and i started discussing where we else we might want to eat, then a waiter finally came by. we decided that mistakes happen and we wouldn't let it spoil our meal. unfortunately, things continued to be sub-par after that - the waiter seemed nice enough, but inexperienced and it always seemed to take him much longer to get a beer than you would expect. thefooddid come fairly quickly after we ordered and was ok, but nothing special. my son and i were looking at the beer menu to order a 3rd each, and the waiter brought our ticket. i guess he figured it was time for us to go. the worst part however was that my son and i were complaining to my wife about the experience and she decided to call and complain. the owner called her a liar and literally yelled at her on the phone. it's sad that i've been to rj's a few times in the past, but i haven't been there for about a year. after this last experience, i won't be back.

a shack for sure.. we went in and thefoodsmelled great. the barbeque was okay. the service was poor. our waiter just disappeared when thefoodwas served. i got up and got my family drink refills just like at home. if you come here, do only takeout.

great barbeque. i'll admit it - i really dislike kc barbeque. it's over-smoked and over tomatoed. i'm from california, and barbeque is simply grilling meat on a grill, free from any distractions. but i had family arriving from out of town last night, and they wanted kc barbeque, so we decided to try rj's. what a surprise! thefoodwas wonderful. i had the three rib platter with a baked potato and the sauteed spinach. best spinach ever. and the ribs were not so smoked that you couldn't taste the meat. ambiance was pretty typical for a barbeque joint, but the staff was prompt and friendly. and they do catering - something i'll think of in the future. i'll definitely share this with friends.
