owners are rude and crazy. avoid at all costs: just had the worst dining experience of my life at this place. we had the nerve to mention the cold inedible bacon when paying our bill and was screamed at by the owner's wife. the owner stomped out of the kitchen and while glaring at us, he yelled that we should have told them before. we were just trying to pay our bill. when i told the wife that we had been coming there for years and that was not any way to talk to the customer, she said she didn't care and hoped that we wouldn't come back. they can be assured that we will absolutely not be back, ever again.

good, not great and in a city with plenty of good bbq, that's a problem. ribs and pulled pork were slightly dry. the chicken was moist and tender. the fries and beans were above average.

great bbq and breakfast. i've been coming here for a couple of years now. they have terrific bbq, but i'm all about their breakfast. rj's has the most wonderful biscuits and gravy i've ever eaten. the gravy is so meaty and flavorful. when i want to take friends or family out for a great breakfast, this is where i take them.

bbq on the cheap. i've been to rj's a few times and always enjoyed it. the food is generally always pretty good, and the service is friendly.

today i got the carryout lunch special: a small sandwich and fries for only $3.99. that is a price that is hard to beat. the meat was good, but the sauce had a slightly medicinal taste (both the hot and regular had this) that i couldn't quite pinpoint. don't get me wrong, i ate the whole thing and was very satisfied but just surprised by that quality of the sauce. i don't recall tasting it before, but it has been quite a while since i my last visit so who knows.

the fries were tasty and had a pretty good tasting seasoned salt on them.

overall, i would recommend rj's if you're in the area or are looking for a decent bbq meal on the cheap

every barbecue lover’s delight: small, off the beaten track place with ribs that almost fall off the bone; tender, moist chicken with great smoke flavor, and a choice of sauces. their weekend brunch gets rave reviews from my neighbors, though i’ve not (yet) tried it.

great ribs! the burnt ends are terrific as well. i've tried a lot of bbq in kansas city and this is far and away the best. good smoke flavor without being over powering. perfectly tender, ribs pull off the bone easily/cleanly. strong game with the sides also.

not just a bbq joint...

a charming little building just off johnson drive in mission houses some quality 'que. they don't stop at the standard faire... daily special like smoked salmon and their brunch shouldn't be missed. better than average fries, a nice creamy slaw, and yummy beans, the sides don't disappoint either. sometimes a venue for live music, rj's is always a good place for a sandwich and a beer.

came in craving buffalo wings and saw they had them. placed an order for two sets of buffalo wings and some corn fritters to go. when my order comes up she asks if i want regular bbq or spicy. i say i want buffalo, it's on the menu and what i ordered and she tells me she does not have any. that would have been good to tell me when i placed an order for two orders of buffalo wings.

their happy hour is so awesome! the bison empanadas are to die for, all the meat was so tender, and the drinks are so affordable and delicious. service was amazing. we will be back again and again!

service was horrible.. our waiter seemed like he hated his life... he was so rude and never came to check on us. food was horrible, sauce is gross!

great bbq. great for a quick dinner out. my wife and i love to support local businesses and this is a great local bbq joint. every dish is good.

i friend of ours told us how great the breakfast was. so we along with another friend and kids went. we ordered the farm breakfast and brunt end hash. all of our food came out cold even the eggs. the only thing warm was the free cinnamon rolls. after spend 45.00 i will not be back.

cozy and fun atmosphere, good for kids as well. very nice staff. the food was fresh, served in a timely manner and absolutely delicious. definitely recommend the ribs and their soups are surprisingly hearty and filling. can't go wrong with basically anything on their menu. terrific barbecue restaurant, one that stands out in a city full of great ones. very impressed.

rj’s is not your typical kansas city barbecue place. they feature some unique menu items like pig tails, lamb ribs, bison, and many other palatable offerings. it would not be a place to which i would make a special trip. there is just too much other barbecue to sample and some old favorites that are too hard to pass up.
