some many choices - don't choose this one. i was at revel room last night and was overall very disappointed in my experience. first, the atmosphere of the bar is not unique from the dozens of other similar establishments within walking distance and around the city. because the restaurant's ambience does not stand out, other aspects stand out as poorly done. i ordered a cocktail from a menu that still has christmas and winter holiday themed drinks (it was just april fool's day, not new years day). i ordered a sazerac, which seemed to be served in a candleholder. the drink had a nice aroma but its taste was too absinthe-heavy. the worst part of the revel room experience was the food. i ordered the empanadas and salad. the empanadas tasted like something you would get out of the frozenfoodsection of safeway. the pastry was not fresh and seemed to be manufactured, not hand made. the filling tasted like bland, sweet potato and had the same texture as baby food. i was starving when i arrived and was only able to finish half of one empanada. the salad was limp and flavourless. the tortilla strips on the salad did not make up for the lack of freshness in the lettuce. my friends ordered taquitos, which had the same dry, frozen-food taste and feel. after our disappointing meals arrived and we had a couple of bites, we couldn't wait to leave. small positives from the night included a pleasant, but not all that bright (she served meals to completely wrong tables), server and the tacos weren't bad. since there is so much variety in this city for small pubs/tapas bars/gastro pubs, there is absolutely no reason to go to revel room. at least there is a chance at a decent meal and better atmosphere elsewhere.
