had a great time here with a mint julep and a new orleans fizz. the live music was great and the pianist was definitely a good entertainer. this may be my new fave venue for live music in gastown!

we headed down here after a couple of drinks, for a few more and maybe a bite to eat. the revel room is in a classic old building in gastown, and with exposed brick walls it has a nice feel to it - it’s pretty sedate, not too loud, high ceilings, two floo

what a revelation ~ the definition of "revel" is to take pleasure or delight in; or to make merry in uproarious festivities. both are perfect descriptions for gastown's southern style restaurant, and a perfect name for the "revel room". as is many unique restaurants in the area, it is a heavily decorated, small space. this helps the restaurant always appear busy, and therefore make in it higher demand. because of the space restrictions, limited seating is available on the first floor and by the bar. those wanting a more quiet dining experience can request for the seats upstairs, they overlook the open space. brick walls, wooden steps, and iron guard rails give the "revel room" a rustic feel; and the dim lighting from unique fixtures helped give it a more formal feel. above the bar are cut outs of shields and shapes in gold, silver, and brass. over all, their decorations, like the three trumpets wielded together, were great conversation starters; but really did not look like they belong

great little hang out for live music. located in crosstown area, it is a quaint live music restaurant with pretty good food. i’ve been here twice and really enjoyed the vibe, the music and the dishes. service was typically pretty good. the dishes were exotic to me and i did enjoy the refreshing flavours of the appetizer dishes i had. drink selection was sufficient. i don’t recall them charging extra for the live music like some restaurants do. there are two floors for this restaurant and it’s pretty cool to watch the band from the loft area. the only drawback of the restaurant is that there is no area to dance and enjoy the music. the main door entrance opens right into the musicians floor level stage and the traffic flow is a little awkward. however, if you want to hang out and listen to music, this is a great spot. i found the price to be reasonable as well.

..."hush puppy" that looked like it was a battered and deep fried ping pong ball of cornbread. this means a moister, almost pudding-creamy, interior and a dessert-like sweetness. very yum! why don't they sell these on a sharing plate?

much potential but fails to on southern food.. should have listened to the bad reviews here,
food is sub-par and portions are small. oil-soaked bun and fries that looked like they were from the bottom of the bag.

disappointing, very disappointing. had a table of 4 - unfortunately, everyone didn't really enjoy their entrees. as much as it hates me to say it, memphis blues is a better southern joint, and they do not even do it that good. :(

the atmosphere and live music was great! food was 3.0 but gets the extra 0.5 for the atmosphere. had the jambalaya; it was ok, biscuit was the best part of the meal. come for the drinks and music!

this place was fun! i went as a solo female traveler, and had no problem getting a corner table in an already busy place. the live bands and music start at 7pm unless otherwise stated, and the rockabilly/swing/blues combo did not disappoint, and even the owner sings! try their cocktails-i started with the puft s'more one which i now wish i would've saved until dessert :) then the revel love and a champagne kiss-delicious!! and the crab cakes!!! yum!!!

good comfort food. pulled pork anything is good here, i went for the curry. massive portions, delish flavours mean you'll eat too much.

the menu has new orleans influences, which is more or less the best you can hope for in vancouver unless you go to one of the few dedicated places like ouisi bistro . the mix of new orleans, new mexico, and less adventurous-sounding things like burgers. vegans look like they may be out of luck, though. sinister chili fried shrimp with honey lime dip ($10) strangely bland, so our experience may have been a fluke kitchen error. for some reason the five "shrimps" (which were fat enough to be proud prawns) had nice crunch and firmness but not a lot of prawny flavour. honey lime dip was also rather tame. otherwise a decently done tempura. be sure to use some of the sriracha (?) chili sauce drizzled on the plate. duck, pear & brie quesadilla with red onion compote ($11) a bit weak on the duck flavour, but otherwise as
