love the decor of this place but the entrance isn’t clearly marked and you will probably miss it finding it as it’s situated in a large warehouse behind the servos. ordered the brisket, ribs and buffalo wings. the buffalo wings were devine! couldn’t say that about anything else though as it was all cold and because of this reason, the food wasn’t enjoyable. the menu is also on the tad expensive side and we had to share a table with another couple, which was a little but uncomfortable.

nice set up in a big shed. bring a jacket at it does get cold at night.

we enjoyed the pulled pork which was nice and moist, followed by the mac n cheese which was and creamy but the corn bread the highlight it was so fluffy and delicious. unfortunately the pork ribs were only served just warm and not tender probably needed about an additional 30 min cook time, the brisket everyone raving about was actually dry and chewy and again served only warm. overall i felt that the portions were a little on the small side too.
overall the ambience and customer service were on  point.

this was our fourth time in coming here but first time in over a year and have to say it was a bit disappointing this time :( the meat was dry and everything apart from the mac and cheese came out cold! have usually loved it here but it has gone downhill unfortunately!

been here several times and always had a wonderful experience - great, friendly service and good food. when we went sunday for dinner we were greeted warmly however the waitress assigned to us was terrible. not only was she unfriendly and uncheerful, she was annoyed when we said we hadn’t finished ordering (as she cut us off before we finished placing our order). in addition she did not bother to inform our group (6 kids, 4 adults) that the chicken wings and sausages were quite spicy and may not be suitable for kids.
i felt like saying something to another staff, however i did notice she was equally unfriendly to a nearby table.
i think this made our food seem less tasty and our experience has made me question whether to come back as there are plenty of other options in this price range with much better service.

we really enjoyed our experience dining at red gum bbq. my meat craving was fulfilled with their amazing beef and pork ribs. nothing else to say about the meat, just delicious, they really know what they are doing. we also had the brisket chilli cheese fries to go with the meat. another tasty dish!

the overall vibe of the place is really nice as well, there's a play area for kids and hangout spots of beer lovers.

love this place!

🥩 beef brisket 150g
🐷 pork ribs 300g
🐄 beef rib (**separate review)
🧀 mac n cheese 🌶 bean chilli w/ corn chips
.
**please note! the red gum beef rib is a clear cut 10/10 dish! if you go to red gum, get it! 😉
.
red gum has been on my bbq hit-list for a long time since they opened! 😎 word on the street was they climbed to melbourne's best bbq spot within a year! 🔝 so naturally they caught my attention in a big way! 😏 ive long been a bbq pork ribs fanatic, you have it on the menu? ill order it! no doubt! 😍 what a venue! 🙌🏽 massive rustic-styled warehouse eating space, decked out with large wooden tables and even a lounge! you just know you're in a smokehouse! 😁 so.. down to business 😎
.
☑ 6.9/10.. overpriced 😔 please note that this review is in comparison to other joints on the bbq scene! ☝🏽 the beef brisket is gorgeous! 😍 juicy, soft, perfectly cooked and literally falls apart in your mouth! 🤤 but, now come the negatives.. 😑 tbh pretty decent let down 😔 there's one thing that holds a lot of weight with my reviews. it's called 'value for money' 💰 the first term that comes to my head unfortunately for red gum is, overpriced 🤔 ill start with my beloved pork ribs 🐷 dont get me wrong, amazing flavour and really good sauced ribs! but just too small a serving for $36.. 😕 you could pick up just as good tasting pork ribs, with more flesh though for a better price and closer to home 😲 the sides were also slightly overpriced, again great flavour but just not enough portion-wise for what you're paying 🤔 as much as i don't want to admit it, it was a decent let down 🤔
.
💡 tip - you'll wanna hear this tip! 😎 the reason i left the 'beef rib' out was because it was a clear cut 10/10 dish and simply needs its own review for the sake of being known! ☝🏽 so here it is, if you go to red gum, get the beef rib! 🐄 at $37 its the only dish worth every dollar! best i've ever had! 🙌🏽😎

after deciding on a 90 minute drive to try this place we were not disappointed at all.
the location is behind a service station but it seems to be set in an old mechanics or workshop that has been brilliantly converted. this is a place for atmosphere and taste, and sets up hopes for amazing food.
the brisket and most meats are slow cooked in a smoker and the wait is most certainly worth it.
the ales and local produce that are paired together are very nicely done and the seating was fun and best use of space.
the food.....amazing. we ordered 5 mains for 4 adults and really thought we may have over ordered but the portions are a bit too small (a credit to the taste maybe?). the brisket sausage with cheese and jalapeño was a standout, until we tried the brisket sandwich which was just stunning. the pulled pork was prefect, the only let down was the chicken. we overdid it with the fries that we loaded with chilli, cheese and brisket, but we were full and well refreshed and finished with a great coffee.
it’s quirky it’s fun it’s amazing food, and sets up a nice day in the mornington peninsula.
will be back with a big group!!..
nice set up guys.

second visit here and must say we were quite disappointed this time around. the brisket was supposed to be 2 serves, or 300g, after being told it was i still didn’t believe it. for $38 out comes 5 strips of dry as anything brisket. the chicken was ok the fries a really small portion and the brisket and jalapeño sausages were nice in flavours but again really dry, as were a few peoples meat on our table.
beer is ridiculously expensive here and the food is way way over priced.
i have no issues with the money as we chose to come but we payed top dollar for very average food and won’t be returning.

great looking place, décor done to lovely standard. service was prompt, smiley and well informed. the young lad who served us was informative and offered good suggestions which is always helpful. we ordered the pork, the brisket, the fried pickles and the coleslaw. we were a bit disappointed with the pork and coleslaw, both had little oomph or anything stand out. the coleslaw would have been sitting for a while due to it's limpness. the pork was just bang average at best. the fried pickles, a first for us, are a bad idea. pickles need to remain zesty, sharp and to the point. deep frying them disturbs their quality. the brisket was the winner by a small margin purely due to its texture. flavour was again lacking. all dishes needed a hefty whack of hot sauce to bring them to life. overall experience was decent, polite friendly staff, quick service and a lovely looking place. doubt we'd return though.

great experience! you can smell the delicious waft of barbecuey goodness from the carpark. the beef ribs were juicy. the buffalo wings tasted great with the blue cheese dressing. the loaded fries were full of flavour but a little soggy. the only dish that could be improved is the pork ribs. the barbecue sauce was a bit too sweet. overall- fantastic.

location and setting is great which is a pity that the quality of the food and service wasn't to match. sold out of brisket at 4pm (for a place that's open till night) but then magically the table next to us had ordered and eating brisket at 5pm when we were leaving. the beef rib was extremely well done but overpriced. the pork ribs were a let down, as were the chips which were all overcooked and loose ends.

overall extremely overpriced for the quality of food, disappointing as the fit out and setting is first class.

red rum, red rum, red gum.

the dear luncher did indeed get some well-produced meats at what could be described as one of the finest eateries on the mornington peninsula. from the moment you park the car and start walking towards this vast enclosure, wafts of bbq starting penetrating the nostrils. once you’re inside, it’s difficult to not be blown away by the way this space has been arranged. the high roof and cavernous space immediately instills a sense of wonder as you get ushered to your table. there was an amazing private dining room area that caught the dear luncher’s eye on the way to the dunnies. this would be an incredible spot to bring a bunch of lads for a big fat feed.

a lot of brisket was ordered (300 grams). it was dry in some parts, so a bit of the sauce on hand was applied (the classic ‘rich and sweet’ was the pick of the bunch). for the most part the brisket was luscious and soft; just how it should be when cooked low and slow. the wings (special) were a little disappointing. not very fleshy and a very tame buffalo-style baste... just a small portion of wingettes, not the full wings as described by the staff. this is an important distinction that often isn’t made. however, the blue cheese sauce that accompanied these wings was sensational. chunks of the cheese were still lodged in the bottom of the little bucket it was provided in.

also sampled was the brisket chili cheese fries. quite a hefty serving of fries loaded with brisket, chili, jalapeños, sour cream and a bit of spanish onion. there was not actually much cheese on these fries, sadly. however, it was still a good example of well executed loaded fries. the brisket meshed throughout these fries really tied it together nicely.

the beer selections on offer were absolutely first rate. a very good spread of local (bayside & peninsula) craft beers. reg gum bbq is an absolute must-visit eatery if you’re in the vicinity.

4.5/5.

delicious food and a great atmosphere, but it stops about there. food is pricey for the serves you get. we were left still hungry after consuming our meal. we were keen to order more food, however trying to flag down a waitress was near impossible. staff were either too busy dancing, socialising or standing around, took around 30 mins for them to clear our table, and we asked for a dessert menu. 20 mins later, no one came back to take our order, so we paid and left. disappointing service and expensive food.
