went to brunch today to find a much smaller menu then before. food was excellent as always i must say. server... was horrible our table was neglected she didn't put in our whole order. after asking about the rest of ourordershe avoided the table. we love the food there but her service really left us with a bad taste. the worst part is she didn't really seem to care. the manager was not very help full either he really took the stance of what do you want me to do about it.

bad service/ rude chef owner. i visited this cafe on my last nola visit as it was close to our hotel. the service was awful! seriously, just terrible. not so much the wait staff as the chef/ owner.
after reading through other complaints and her reactions or excusesi wish i would have read the reviews first.
food is decent but be prepared that you can not change yourorderin any way, shape or form! if you try, be ready for a backlash!
the customer is not always right in this establishment! in fact, we were called names!

do not go to red gravy!. my family and friends, a party of 8, came into red gravy on sunday bc it was close to our hotel and sounded good for brunch. the waitress put togther a few tables for us w seemingly no problem and we were seated but that was it. after us the small space did fill up quickly but the place only seats maybe 20 total so still not a ton of folks for two waitresses. our entire party did not arrive as some were still checking out of hotels etc but she did not ask us if we wanted to go ahead andordereven drinks and it was 25 minutes before we even got water. after six of us had arrived we informed the waitress we wanted to go ahead and order, which we did. however, half of the items on the specials board were unavailable. we were also asked what kind of eggs we wanted on our eggs benedict (they should be poached to truly be eggs benedict) and when we asked for poached we were told they "they did not have the equipment to poach an egg" (a pot and boiling water??? don't put it in the menu if you can not make it??)

when our last remaining members arrived about ten mintutes later they placed their orders and we were told by the waitress that our previous orders had not yet been put in. upon hearing this two of our party members decided to cancel theirorderas we had been there for over 45 min and our orders still had not been sent back to the kitchen by the waitress. as they prepared to leave the waitress came back out to tell us that they had indeed started cooking our meal but our two friends in no uncertain terms told the waitress it was too late, they had someone to meet and had to cancel theorderand go.

when they brought the rest of our food out they brought out the two cancelled orders as well. we reminded the waitres that these were the cancelled items and she nervously brought them back to the kitchen.

moments later we were greeted not by a helpful chef with a courteous "how can i help you" but with a rude and ready to fight woman whose first words were that we were going to have to pay for the food that was cooked. we very politely informed her that our friends cancelled thatorderand left due to slow service and bc the waitress told us it had not been prepared yet. she was very argumentative and unkind to put it nicely. after being yelled at by the chef for about five minutes (she was calling me a liar and telling me i had to pay for my friends food, which i never said i would not do, i just wanted to voice the complaint) my husband had enough and said we were leaving. we stood up as did most of the rest of the party and at that point she threatened to call the cops if we left. we had not had even a bite of food and felt we were within our rights to leave refusing service from someone who would treat us this way. my husband then used a few choice words he should not have, but he had clearly been pushed to his limit. i escorted him outside to cool off and assured the nasty woman that she would be paid but that we wanted our food boxed up to go and we were certainly not happy. we were acused of "causing a scene" which is absurd considering she was the one who came out of the back in my opinion looking for a fight.

i have never in my 32 years ever been treated so poorly by a chef or by anyone for that matter in a public place. i was apauld at the manner in which this lady conducted business. i have never even made a single complaint in my life in a restaurant, never sent food back and i am not a high maintance customer. i actaully have worked in food service, as have several others members of my party, and we know how a retaurant and a kitchen should be run and are usaully very sympathetic.i have never written a single review on a website such as this, but this was ridiculous! we also tipped our poor waitress as we felt sorry for her for having to work for such an unkind, unfeeling woman. (we heard her being yelled at by the same chef in the back)

as we were leaving i heard the chef agruing with yet another woman at another table for what sounded like a similar situation with slow food and bad service.

to be fair, the food was decent and i might have reccomended this place had we not been treated like trash instead of customers. instead i would tell anyone considering this restaurant (and did to several on the street that day) to pass it by due to what is clearly a staff problem in managing customers properly.

horrible customer service and ridiculous prices. i have called the red gravy on numerous occasions to place lunch orders, and every time i am greeted by a person who is extremely rude. just this morning, i called to discuss what meals would be good options for a vegan/vegetarian, and i was told that the red gravy is vegetarian. really? is that all? should iorderonly red gravy for a lunch meal? when i questioned the girl on this, her response was that they were slammed, and to look at the website if i wanted more info. i know you may be busy, but i am a paying customer too, and i deserve just as much time and attention as someone who may be in your restaurant. i have also placed a deliveryorderwith red gravy before. they were a block away from my work building, and i was very pregnant and very busy with work at the time. not once did they mention a delivery fee. especially for a one block delivery costing a rediculous amount of money. so one sandwich and anorderof fries ended up costing me $20. i will neverordera delivery from them again. and before you decide to respond to this post red gravy - as i see you have responded to all negative posts on here - spare me. i've read your responses to others and find them very condescending. you are so quick to make every excuse in the book for your poor service, but not once do i see you taking responsibility and apologizing for you and your staff's actions. that's poor business, especially when there are so many other good places to eat in this town.

called to place anorderfor delivery and was placed on "hold".. which is a nice way of saying they set the phone down. they were busy, yes, i listened to them take a bunch of orders and then nothing. after 9 minutes i hung up and called again several times before it was answered. i told the girl she'd left me on hold for 9 minutes and i just wanted go place a delivery order. she told me to give her another minute and then left me again for 5. this is not the first time i've been unable toorderfood from this place (it's the third time), but it's the last time i will try. i will not beg for service.

terrible service and food. my husband and i live in new orleans. i had seen the urban spoon review of red gravy so we thought it might be fun for breakfast. the service (what service?) was terrible. first, we went in, there were two tables of the 6 or 6 filled. so we sat down. neither of us noticed the sign sayingorderat the counter. after about 5 minutes, we started looking around and one of the two waitresses finally said, you have toorderat the counter. we both looked at each other as if to say, ya could have told us that a while ago. so it didn't start off well. i went to the counter to order. just as i did, one of the waitresses dropped something in the back. not food for anorderor anything, so the second waitress and she proceeded to clean it up. i looked at them comically and one looked up and said, we will be right with you, we have to clean this up. well, one of them could have handled it while the other took my order, but they don't work for me (thank goodness) so i guess they can decide theorderof priorities. i ordered, got our coffees (yes, you get everything yourself, like a buffet almost) and we sat and waited. the food did come. what was it like? well, i won't describe my husband's because i didn't eat it. he said it was ok. i had been looking forward to the omlette with meatballs and red gravy. the name of the place is red gravy, right, it should be pretty good, right? so the omlette has some meatball in it, but it mostly was an unflavorful egg and ricotta cheese thing. there was a teaspoonful of red gravy on the top, not even enough for me to taste and tell you if it was good or not.
we had gone there at 9am for breakfast on a weekday morning, when nothing else was going on in town. the two entrees cost $30 with just coffee. yikes. there was no reason for it to be so bad except that it is just bad and it was expensive on top of that. so, all in all, i would not recommend this place. there are too many good places to eat in new orleans to waste your time and money there.

meatballs sandwich. finally got the chance to go in today. i work a few blocks away but rarely get to go out. i got the meatball sandwich parm style with potato salad. my coworker got some nina panini but i didn't care because i was too busy chewing. in a good way. the meatballs were lighter than my mommas, the bread (french of course!) was crispy and nicely toasted. the sauce was spot on and of course they did not skimp with the cheese :-d (do they have a bigger smiley??) youorderwhen you get there so check out their menu ahead of time to get some ideas or their facebook page to see the daily specials. the owner/chef was out and saying hello to everyone. i'd definetely go back. i want to try the gravy bread i saw on other people's plate. yum!
