good food, but..... we are new to the area and were very much looking forward to our firstrasushi experience. the sushi was great, very fresh.. the "special rolls" looked fairly generic and most contained cream cheese so they didn't appeal to us. over all we were very satisfied with our meal, but.... our service was terrible!! it took our waitress all of 5 seconds to run to the table and expect us to have a drink order ready, never asked if we had eaten there before, and then disappeared. we saw her quite a few times flirting with the table of men behind us, but never giving us more than five seconds of her time every 20 minutes or so. long story short, if you would like to have a nice leisurely meal where the server rarely checks in on you or gives you helpful hints about menu favorite...rasushi is the place for you.

go for the atmosphere, not the food. anyway who says they likerafor the sushi, haven't tried enough other places in tucson.rahas a great atmosphere and a cool setting, but the sushi is average at best. and yes, i've been several times because friends always want to hang out in the foothill. it's always the same. overpriced, average-tasting sushi.

good sushi -- great scenery.rasushi serves up delicious and fresh sushi. i guess my problem with sushi is that i never remember good sushi meals -- only the bad ones. so i can't really specify what sushi to get. i do recall the tuna roll (tekka) was a good portion and they had some of the tenderest octopus i've had of late.

i think the true attraction ofrais not the food but the scenery. the place is swarming with great looking women of the "hipster chick" variety.raattracts them like flies on.........bad sushi, i guess.

maybe it's just me. maybe i'm just comparingraagainst other places i've been, but it just doesn't seem to come up to snuff. the rolls seem pretty small, and the quality of them is par, but that adds up to something i don't expect to pay very much for.

it feels more like i'm paying for the atmosphere than for the food, and i'll take a hole-in-the-wall place where the waiter can't understand english over ra, if it means getting great food at a great price.

that said, rais chic, and conveniently placed if you're looking for sushi in the scottsdale shopping district.

good. my experience atrawas great. since my friends were at work i was exploring tucson on my own and stumbled across it. my only complaint is that since i was having a great conversation with the sushi chef my rolls weren't quite perfectly square. beyond that the fish tasted great, their product was wonderfully fresh, and quite reasonably priced for the amount i received on a ala carte order. the only two reasons i'd say you'd not likerais if your chef was still new to the game or if you have something against chain restaurants.

ra is a tickler. i like this place a lot for their happy hour, it's just a great great deal. their fish is touch and go, it's not always great but it has been consistently good especially when you factor int he happy hour price. they always serve great salmon nigiri though, but are inconsistent with tuna and yellowtail. the shrimp ceviche only 4$ during happy hour is a steal and is absolutely delectable for those who prefer their crustaceans cooked. pass on the crunchy spicy tuna and the lobster spring rolls, but the crab cakes are quite ok once again especially when half price and the pineapple shrimp is great. on sunday night atrain scottsdale they have great live music, covers of popular modern hits and older favorites. oh and the flying fish roll on the sunday night happy hour menu is a yummy half priced alternative to a rainbow roll, delicious. :)

all style, no substance.rais not so much for people who want to eat sushi, as it is for people who want to be seen eating sushi. dynamite mussels fizzled, and the thin mashed potatoes (mashed potatoes in a sushi restaurant?!) were impossible to eat with chopsticks.
