plough hotel

loved the vibe at this place, ordered the pork belly, gnocchi, lamb and whole baby trout. flavours were delicious but only down side was the trout had a lot of tiny little bones making them hard to avoid and one ended up stuck in my throat for 3 days 🥺 but overall the service and environment was nice

service was very pleasant and agreeable. we were very well looked after, especially as the place wasn’t busy. there were maybe 2 other tables and perhaps one or two further back not in my line of vision.

great food! we had the vegetarian platter, stuffed calamari, capricosa and wagyu burger - i'd happily have them again! service was also great, attentive but not annoying, they've found the perfect balance!

thursday diner. we were at the plough on thursday night. great place in terms of deco but very very noisy. we found some of the staff especially the tall "welcoming" male staff rude and patronising. he came to our table towards the end of the night and taunted us. we did not deserve it! we had to wait over 1 hour for our food. the food was average and certainly not worth the money we paid. we won't return.

great food, patchy service. i love the plough, it's my local and the food/vibe is great in a nice atmosphere. but recently some of the staff seemed to have been bitten by the arrogant bug, forgetting they are in the west not some trendy hipster joint. if only this could change i'd give the plough 10/10 every time.

footscray is an area we have somewhat neglected. not sure why. i don’t think its due to lack of options, however it just doesn’t seem to get suggested to us all that often. don’t get me wrong - i have been pestering the station via twitter to put a parma on their menu since i first tried their amazing menu… but to no avail. so when i heard the long-neglected plough had recently had a revamp it was on the top of my list.

excellent family friendly gastropub!. the plough hotel is a great balance of good food, friendly service in a semi-casual venue that is still very family family. not quite the place for an intimate dinner for two but perfect for almost any other occasion! we'll be back!

it was ok. i was really excited to have diner at the plough hotel on wednesday night. i was surprised how busy it was for a week night. the décor was lovely and i didn't feel i was in footscray lol.

a lot of the menu was quite simple and as such i expected the food to be top notch. i ordered the salmon nicoise salad, which tasted great but had a few flaws. the salmon was overcooked ( which i personally don't mind) and the eggs were really over cooked.

another person on my table ordered the hamburger, they said it was decent but would not order it again.

we also ordered the potato pizza, it tasted really good , with soft and crispy potato with rosemary and onions. i really enjoyed the pizza but once again something was missing ..... i have no idea what, but it needed just another spice or something to make it amazing.

the prices were quite steep for footscray and for better quality food i would go to the victoria hotel. for ambience, great range of beers and a different crowd, i would recommend plough hotel.

my partner and i ate here recently and were presently surprised.
great beers, wines & spirits. the food was delicious and well presented.
i had a blue swimmer crab linguini followed by a 400g scotch fillet with a fig & watercress salad, both dishes were cooked perfectly and were really really tasty.
my partner had stuffed zucchini flowers and a hanger steak, again cooked well and delicious.
the service was minimal but friendly and efficient. im looking forward their winter menu and trying the woodfired pizzas next time.
tip: the plough also does their pizzas to takeaway

on wednesday, 23 may, went in for lunch with a friend and ordered my usual tamarind chicken. my friend - who also is a regular at the place and had ordered wagyu burger before chose to order the same. this was at least our fifth time. every other time we were both impressed with the food but sadly this time, neither he was nor was i. his burger was ok but my tamarind chicken was anything but. putting slices of roasted pumpkin (lots) and covering it with parsley leaves - with sparing chunk or two of bbqed chicken. absolutely no tamarind flavour or taste. was totally disappointed this time. hope they make it up for us next time, because we like the place and we will give them another chance.

i come here nearly week and it is always good , there are a few things that aren’t consistent every time i go so that’s why they don’t get the full 5 stars . one of the new staff member waiters he is fantastic at his job , very funny and very knowledgeable .

ok ok a 3 seems a little rough here. the problem i have with the plough is i just don't know where it fits. the food is ok- goodish and the decor is quite nice. similar to other posters i think the service is average at best. long waits for drinks/ placing orders is not uncommon and music levels can be a little loud. having said all that when i go to a pub i expect to pay pub prices- if i want to extend on my spend i'll head straight to the station hotel for a superior steak and experience for only a few extra bucks! this leaves me in a quandry about the plough, i just don't quite know where it fits in the pub scene of footscray!

great new pub! just needs some fine tuning.. the buzz for redevelopment of this pub has been going for awhile, to the point where a group conversation started up on my bus home as we all looked in the window on monday night!!! we were located in the booth area and our whole group of mates were thrilled with the selection of beers and wines available. we ordered chips and chunky veggies to start with, which were perfect and i loved my steak as a main and had food envy with the pizzas and the burger. everyone was really happy with the food and wine throughout the night. the waitress was friendly and spunky, but we all thought that she was under pressure to clean up a little too regularly from the manager and she gave us the bill pretty much directly after we had finished eating which made it feel like they wanted us out quickly....

overall it is a great pub and we are thrilled that it has opened in the area. the only other major thing that needs improvement is the layout. the acoustics are not quite right so it feels noisy even with not a lot of people in the place and the layout of the furniture doesn’t make it feel cosy. it needs plants or artwork or something to break up the white of the walls and the noise.

we will definitely be going back regularly and encourage others too, it just need to fine tune a few things for it to be the perfect local pub!!!

we went here on mother's day. our table wasn't ready at the time of our booking and we had to wait about 20 minutes. our main meals were all pretty nice, but the kids meals were a disgrace. the kids cheese burger was the size of a 50cent piece (smaller than your average slider). won't go back in a hurry...

thankyou! thankyou! thankyou!. mum's 70th was a complete success thanks to marcus and the gang at the plough. everyone raved how delicious the meals were! the service was top notch and the private dining room ideal for our group of 11. a few of us had the porterhouse and there was murmurs around the table of "best steak i have had in a long time". mum had the eye fillet with the smoke tomato and potato croquette - which i kept trying to steal off her plate it was so yummy! and dad and my partner thought the goat was a hit!
