pequod's pizza

i just went to thepequod'spizza location on clybourn in chicago and i can truly say that i have found the best pizza in chicago. when i mean the best pizza, i mean that have the best original deep dish style pizza that is talked about all over the nation. i have tried pizza in new york and los angeles and i truly believepequod'sto have the best. i love the atmosphere, although i do have to say it's a bit like a bar and i had my 12 year old daughter with me. that being said, the staff was absolutely amazing and made me and my party feel completely comfortable and made the experience really great! i would highly recommend this place to everyone wanting to get an authentic deep dish chicago pie.

after going to whirlyball with a couple of friends to celebrate a birthday, we were looking for a place to sit down and eat. we took a short walk topequod'spizza on 2207 n clybourn ave and arrived at 5:00. i have never been treated so poorly in any establishment as i was treated inpequod'spizza. after being seated, we were told there would be a 40-minute wait for our pizza to arrive. an hour and 30 minutes passed, and our pizza was nowhere in sight. in addition, our waitress constantly checked on tables around us and refused to pay us any attention. because of this negligent behavior on behalf of this establishment, i requested to speak to a manager. one manager told us that his staff was "doing the best they could". a second manager told us he would look into our situation, but never returned to our table. later on, we overheard the same manager tell another customer who waited 30 minutes for her pizza that her pizza would be free of charge. we finally received our pizza at 6:45 and asked for the bill. after receiving the bill we continued to wait an additional 20 minutes for our waitress to pick up our bill. however, she continued to ignore us. feeling fed up and highly disrespected we decided to leave our full payment on the table and leave the establishment. this experience was not the nice sit-down dinner we were expecting for my friend's 18th birthday.

my review might be colored by the fact that the pizza atpequod'swas the very first deep dish i'd had, but i absolutely loved it!
i was in chicago for the holidays, to visit friends, and someone suggestedpequod'sfor proximity reasons. although i did get to have deep dish pizza again during my stay, and from a different place, there's no way i can compare that and pequod's.
how do you describe deep dish pizza? let me just say that i understand why it's called a "pie" now. in fact, that's how i can best describe it - a very tomatoey, very cheesy, very meaty pie, with a hot, crisp crust!
we went for a medium sausage pizza to be shared by 4, and underestimated how large and heavy it will be. it took 45-50 minutes to prepare, but two slices, and i was done!
don't get there when you're extremely hungry, because in all likelihood, there's gonna be a line when you get there, and then the wait for the pizza. but man the pizza is amazing!

pequod's is one of the most talked about and recommended pizza places in chicago and for good reason. although the sauce could use a little more flavor, the crust is where it's at! caramelized crusty cheesy goodness. had to give it a 3.5 because the service was so bad and it wasn't even busy, which was disappointing. but overall,pequod'sis what's up.

my first chicago pan pizza did not disappoint. a thick delicious pizza takes time develop that delicious crunchy crust edge andpequod'snailed it. the four of us split a large and full caesar salad and none of us felt hunger for most of the day. great service and value!

mmmm pequod's! their carmelized deep dish crust is freaking amazing. their pies are huge and packed with equally huge ingredients. the sausage is delicious-big, hearty chunks with a strong fennel flavor, but i think pepperoni is my favoritepequod'stopping. definitely at the top of my best chicago pizza list!

can't argue with success!. i read aboutpequod'sfrom the frugal traveler column in the ny times, penned by seth kugel. seth kugel's approach to travel is almost like as an anti-tourist, which means sometimes his recommendations are a bit more trouble than they are worth, like pequod's!

case in point: from my hotel in streeterville (near the navy pier) to the restaurant in lincoln park took almost an hour, since the public transit options were hideous. you could take the butt-in-seat approach, which requires four buses, or the adventurer approach, which comprises a mile walk to the red line, 10 minutes on the train, and then another mile walk to the restaurant. i chose the latter, and besides had to wait an hour at 8 p.m. on a friday evening, since i didn't call ahead. fortunately, there was a cute bakery down the street where i had a sweet and coffee while waiting for the pizza.

the pizza was well worth the two-and-a-half hour investment, and quite a bargain at a tad more than $9 for a 7" personal pan pie with one topping. best in chicago? not sure, but i don't think i have enough time to find out!

it was the bf's birthday and if anyone knows him, you know he's a pizza and beer kind of guy. one pizza place we both had embarrassingly never been to, ispequod'spizza in lincoln park and morton grove.pequod'sis one of the lesser known chicago deep dish joints compared to giordano's and lou malnati's, but they've established a bit of a cult following for their unique crust.pequod'span pizza features a caramelized crust that is burnt, crunchy, and full of flavor from the other pizza pies that have been baked in the same pan. food menu we began our meal at the lincoln park location with a few beers to help wash down those giant slices of cheesy pizza. admittedly, i was a bit disappointed in the beer selections--i guess i was expecting something a little more exotic than goose island green line or lagunitas a lil' sumpin' sumpin' ale. call me snobby. drink menu in order to offset the intense carb loading that was about to occur, we started out with a largepequod'ssalad which inclu

dubbed as some of the best pizza in chicago,pequod'smay be considered in a class of its own.  unfortunately, this class is not deep-dish... but rather pan-style pizza.  besides the pan-style pizza, they are famous for their "caramelized crust" (see description below).

take the trip. if you are a fan of chicago deep dish pizza and you stick around the loop, mag mile, river north, etc. places like gino's, lou's, etc. for your ddp, make the short trek out topequod'sand give it a try. it will set a new standard to try and judge others.

pequod's please?.pequod'sis the latest chicago deep dish i have tried and it was a homerun! i highly recommend getting sausage as a topping. the lighter, buttery crust sets it apart from other pizza places and the sauce is awesome! i still think giordano's is my favorite butpequod'sis no downer.

when going to chicago there are so many incredible food options, but one of the most basic is also the most delicious: chicago deep dish pizza. when you ask for recommendations you can get any number of names, including the original pizzeria uno. however, when i asked my friend c, who we were staying with, where to go for some good deep dish, without hesitation she suggestedpequod'spizza . chicago deep dish when we were seated at our table, we noticed that not only waspequod'sc's recommendation, it was actually just named the best pizza in illinois by food network magazine . with those types of endorsements i knew we would be in for a treat. pequod is actually the name of the boat in moby dick, thus the whale! after a busy day of touring, i was starving by the time we sat down and was ready to eat something. nick left the decision making to me and after a bit of hemming and hawing over what greasy deliciousness to order, i settled on the mozzarella sticks. the breading was crispy a

big thumbs up forpequod'spizza! i have seem deeper dish pizza's, but for us, this was perfect.

best ever!. how many pizzas have i had in my life?i have no idea, but if the pizza auditors gave me a number well into the thousands, i wouldn't dispute it. that said,pequod'sis, without question, the best pizza i have ever had put in my mouth. fresh ingredients, carmelized crust, perfectly baked.pequod'salone is worth the trip to chicago.

great pizza.pequod'shas really good pizza at a decent price. the pizza is consistent and made by hand. they definitely get the dough right. the sauce is a little sweeter than we like but the toppings are always fresh. we've been eating here for many years. takeout is best as the interior is dark and dingy. having said that, the service is top notch with helpful, cheerful staff, especially the lady who works behind the bar because she would constantly check and see if our waters were down and take the initiative to come over and fill them several times (even though she wasn't our waitress). highly recommend.
