this is my favoriteplaceto eat in town! i find they have the best roast beef and gravy in the city. whether you want it on a po boy or fries (mmmmm the debris), it is ridiculously tasty. not in the mood for beef, get the firecracker shrimp po boy. great prices as well.

change of heart. i have been coming here for years. i have been telling people that thisplacehas some of best poboys in the city. i can honestly say that i will never come again. the worst service on earth is happening here, and the food aint that great either. the last 4 times my girlfriend and i came here my order was wrong, or was never cooked after a hour. and when i did get it by some strange miracle it was cold, greasy, and overall un-edible . i live in the irish channel and will do what i did last night. take a ride to mid city and go to park way. they don't have 5 kids leaning on counters putting out a poboy every 30 minute and not giving a crap about anything working there. sorry parasoles. you have lost another faithful customer. rip

outstanding roast beef po-boy. was watching diners, drive-ins, and dives when parasol's was featured so i had to try this place. we went when my parents were in town so we ordered several items and shared: 1 large roast beef po-boy, 1 hot muffaletta, 1 bowl read beans and rice, 1 bowl gumbo, and 1 parasol's irish sundae plus drinks. the roast beef was so tender it melted in your mouth and was accompanied by the perfect flavorful gravy. the muffaletta was huge but delicious. the irish sundae was not only unique but delectable. you must try thisplaceif you like authentic cajun/creole sandwiches at their best!

i feel like a fool. i've been a lifelong new orleanian. i've eaten roast beef poboys from all around the metro area, tracey's, sammy's, parkway, mother's, short stop, etc., etc. i haven't tried all, but in my 24 years i've had many. yet, until recently, i'd never been to parasol's. and for that, i'm a fool.

first off, i love the fact that i can order from the bar and drink a beer while i wait. but really, this is the best roast beef poboy i've ever had. everyone in the city has a favorite and this is mine. the gravy is thick and messy, you're gonna need some napkins, as well as delicious. the beef itself is cut well, not too thin, not to thick. if i'm not wrong, they use leidenheimer bread, which is always great, soaks up the gravy, but not enough to make the sandwich fall apart. i'm not a fan of mayo, so i can't comment on how that goes with it.

however, if i am ever told someone has oneplaceto eat in new orleans, and doesn't have the cash to go to one of our many fine high-class restaurants, i'm directing them right to parasol's.

given the other reviews, i wish i could have had someone else's experience here. waited at the order counter for several minutes toplacean order. one order went out of the kitchen while i waited, but there were people standing around doing nothing but looking at me in the kitchen. after i finally placed my order (bbq beef po boy, roast beef po boy, cheese fries, and onion rings, with two dr. peppers to drink) i got the drinks. they were cans of dr. pepper, one of which was crusted in nastiness on the top and the other had massive dents in it. whatever, i thought, i'll give them the benefit of the doubt and wait for the food. so after about a half hour, the food finally came out. one would think that the fries and onion rings would have come out when they were ready but apparently that was not the case. so of course the fries were cold and hard, and the cheese on them was also cold and crusty. gross. onion rings were passable but their sauce had this really funky lemon taste to it that was so unfortunate that i started just using ketchup to save my taste buds the embarrassment of it. the po boys were pretty decent. some of my meat was still cold, but after the rest of the meal, it was still a bright spot. i can't in good consciousness recommend thisplacefor the food. maybe the bar is better.

dont judge a book by the cover.... saw thisplaceon tripe d - food network had to check it out. definitely a dive but the food rocked! roastbeef po-boy was awesome, irish pub sundae was like nothing i ever had - potato salad drenched in gravy and roast beef debris. owner was super friendly and they gave huge portions and offered us a little lagniappe to make us all happy. great prices - will definitely be back!

one of the best poboys in nola. it's much better now with the new owners. poboys taste better and the service is friendly. imagine that. thatplacedown the street traceys that opened a year ago doesn't come close. why would anyone eat there instead? parasol's is a nola institution and always will be.

open! can't wait to try it again. and i will give my reviews. this is a true new orleans institution.

original parasol's update. once the craziness of st patrick's & st joseph's celebrations died down, parasol's got back on track promptly. listening to customers, they now have home-made fries that are just fine.
po-boys and seafood "baskets" are very good. the new owners seem nice, dedicated, and vigilant.
please do not believe the ugly rumors circulated by fans of their competitors. these are nice local folks and they are trying to run a great place.
i am glad the problems are behind them. we are back here several times a month, you should try it, too.

update parasol's problem. we hit our first big disappointment today since new management takeover a few months ago.

having been regulars here, both before & after changeover, we had been very happy with the new crew.

but, today, we hit a big problem. after tying up our bicycles and waiting in line about 15 minutes, the kitchen announced that they were overwhelmed and there would be a delay of at least an hour beofre any new order would be started.

trying to give them a chance; we rode around the 'hood another hour or so and went back. the kitchen order taker just threw up her hands when asked what the situation was then; pointing to a long row of take-out orders to be filled. they had decided to give take-outs precedence over waiting-in-restaurant customers.

we, and many others, left in disgust.

today is "lundi gras", the day before mardi gras, and a minor holiday in n.o.

if they can't handle a little extra business, what is going to happen tomorrow, mardi gras, and on march 12 (combo st joseph's & st patrick parade) or march 17, st partick's feast day ?

most n.o. eateries have learned to treat their regular patrons differently from tourists and holiday crowds. the regulars will be there day-in and day-out, all year, and provide the bulk of any restaurant's business.

we live in the neighborhood and have been at parasol's 6 or 8 times/month. we eat out frequently, spending around $1500 to $2000/mo on restaurant meals.

today's experience will certainly affect our future dining choices.

i am terribly sorry to have to report this disappointment !

parasol's, new again !. the "new" "old" parasol, constance @ third street, is back and is better than ever. the food is the same. the new owner is a new orleans native and irish channel "girl", who uses the same old recipes.
but, theplaceis cleaner, friendlier, and the dining area is smoke-free. the original parasol's is much, much better than the newer nearby "tracey's". we live in the neighborhood and are very familiar with both places. long live the "original " parasol's !

parasol's review. i tried the roast beef po boy. it was amazing! very different version of roast beef than what i'm used to in ny. think "well done yet still tender and smothered and marinated in thick brown gravy". it was delicious. try it fully dressed, you'll need all the napkins they give you. theplaceis a great little dive bar with a very friendly staff. i felt right at home and will be going back next time i'm in nola.
