this is one of the oldest and the best assamese restaurant in guwahati. it reminds me of my childhood days when i used to visit here with my parents to have their delicious assamese meal.

i have been eating here for the past few years but never knew that it was called parampara. i had always thought this was the upper floor of the paradise restaurant since they both share a common entrance. anyway the interiors is much better than the 'plain jane' paradise and the seating arrangments are comfortable. good for having a wholesome meal. anyway i always order the parampara thali and it is to die for. i have never left the place complaining.

they are doing a great thing for assamese cuisine. i wish they remain doing so.

the decor's decent but positively dated and the service is a bit slow, but thats not why you should go here. parampara is apparently the guwahati stalwart of assamese dining, and the massive thalis do that title great justice. the menu predominantly focuses on meats, but vegetarians like me need not despair. the lone veg thali is a positive delight and working for a full half hour through the rice and the assortment of delicate curries and dishes is time well spent. additionally, the price point (especially for outsiders from bigger cities) is brilliant. so happy was i with the meal that i became a regular at their delhi outpost - jakoi.

while i am in the city, i will make it a point to visit paradise, quintessentially famous for its assamese meal.
the restaurant has been operating for more than 20 years now, if i am not mistaken. and every time i come here, it's purely because of the assamese cuisine because there are some items like the mahor tenga and khar which i simply love.
khar is made from juice extracts from the raw banana plant and has a distinct flavour which makes it very special.
their thalis are super and rice based only. don't expect rotis in the thali. a variety of items come in the thali including khar, dal, sabji, fish curry (tenga) and you can even ask for chicken curry or better still the duck curry.
in the ala carte option, you have options for various fish curries, mutton and chicken.
i love paradise and will visit this place when i am in guwahati again. for sure!

a recent trip to the north east after a gap of over 12 years was overdue and visiting old haunts was a delight and indeed very nostalgic.guwahati more than any other city in the region has grown tremendously ,traffic is chaotic, malls everywhere, new eating places, hotels and shops and generally a population explosion.areas you cant recognize.the quiet, layed back city is now buzzing !!we decided to trace our old haunts and were surprised that many have survived.one such was paradise which even today boasts of serving amongst the best assamese food.
paradise was virtually one of the very few restaurants in the late 1970s and early 1980s to which a family could go for a meal. happily the place although with a slight remake maintains its ambience and food standard. we went for the good old non veg thali. the mutton was well made but had too many bony pieces while the tenga fish was great.the vegetables were typical and oveall maintained their standard but the helpings have decreased a bit !! we also ordered the bamboo chicken, hilsa in banana leaf and the duck roast. the hilsa was really well done and the chicken and duck were tasty with the former having a subtle spicy flavour.interesting dishes which the first timers must try.
for the uninitiated, assamese food is not as spicy as bengali and also much less oily--very very light on the stomach comparitively.
paradise was always a must visit place and i would reccomend it even today. the decor is simple and clean and the service quite efficient..thanks paradise for the remembrances !!!

totally agree with many of the criticisms below. paradise service has gone down as i do not see a lot of old staff that used to be there. there are new waiters and they are extremely careless and inattentive.

at the same time i must say that if one wants to taste assamese food in the city, their assamese thalis are the best in the area. however, if one wants to taste spicy food, this is not the place (in fact no assamese restaurant is).

their indian gooseberry soup (amlokhi soup) is a must. however make sure to indicate whether you need it spicy, with chillies, less salty etc.

another great appetizer is the fish egg croquet. however, many of the items in their menu are seasonal.

patot diya maas - or fish grilled on banana leaf is another dish that goes well with thaali(s).

i would give them a 4.0 as their food is the closest to home cooked assamese food available in ghy. however, their delhi "jaakoi" is a disaster- but that will be in the review for jaakoi!

i have been to this restaurant with my family as far as i can remember. at one point of time, it used to be the best in guwahati. sadly, in recent times, the food quality has degraded and and the waiters have been extremely rude to guests. the menu should be updated and innovative dishes should be brought out. the only dish that hasn't changed over the years in terms of quality taste is the thali. 2.5 out of 5 for me.

a very old place with authentic axomiya food. have been going there since a kid and have always... and always had their legendary thali. aaloo pitika, maach fry, rohor dail with jaati lao will never let you miss your ghar ka khana... specially to axomiyas. to those who knows this place since decades, paradise is not 'just' a place to eat.. a place that will have a special corner not just in our stomachs, but our hearts too!

as, clearly as all my fellow foodies have stated, paradise was an iconic destination for assamese food until a couple of years from now. people from all, around the city frequented this place. but, it seems to have left it all back there in the bygone times. what manages to lure after all this is the thali. its mainstream & tasty. this restaurant provides chinese too, which disappointed me badly in a visit. indeed, there is no point in ordering chinese in an assamese restaurant. you could go there, if you are an old customer. for, new ones, i would say, unfortunately, this isn't the right place. of late, guwahati has witnessed a handful of new assamese restaurants, some better than paradise.

food might be assamese but decor, waiters, bill everything needs a revamp. quite spacious but owing to its location difficult to park a car. although i didnt go for the authentic assamese thali but the chicken cutlet was average but it tasted a bit different the chicken fried rice was definitely ordinary. paradise used to be considered as the pride of guwahati before the advent of assamese food revolution by khorika and other contempories but not any longer. may be the owners don't take any interest in guwahati paraside or to say even jorhat paradise. our assamese food culture has to survive and so i urge the the owners to keep updating with the changing times.

the first of its kind in guwahati, the signature assamese thali being their trademark. have been to this place since my childhood days i,e. the 90's and i still like going there. it always used to be our (my family's) first choice whenever we wanted to dig in a simple assamese thali. though their popularity has lessened over the years, yet their name is still a brand. food is good and the surprising part is they serve chinese too, which again is not too bad. lusture is not upto today's notch but it brings back a lot of memories for me. therefore, i bid in favour of this place. :)
