papitos mexican grill

papitos is my usual go-to for mexican food in hattiesburg. sometimes the prices can be slightly higher than one might expect, but for the amount of food you get as well as the quality, it's still a decent value. there'sgoodvariety too, and i like the atmosphere, both when it's busy and when it's quieter.

i literally created this profile to comment on this restaurant. they are wonderful and the staff are always so nice when i go. this is my first choice of places to go out to eat because the price is so low you would think the food wouldn't be thatgoodbut think again! i have been here multiple times with my husband and never have we been disappointed. as a matter of fact i am going today for lunch! even the company i work for services the a/c's and they love it.

i can’t say i was disappointed, but based on the many glowing reviews i read, i may have set my expectations a little high. to start with, the salsa has agoodflavor but no spice. nada. i ordered the enchiladas supreme which is 4 enchiladas in red sauce topped with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. chicken, ground beef, cheese and bean. of the 4, the chicken was far and away the best. i would have beengoodwith a plate of these. cheese was also good- seemed like they use oaxaca cheese. the ground beef had a strange flavor like it was reheated or precooked and the bean was notgoodat all. if those are the beans they serve on the side, i would not even eat them. no flavor. of course this is just one dish. i would like to try the fajitas before passing final judgment. for now i would say that papitos was average and worth a second try.

always excellent service and the food is consistently good. large portions and nice and clean. the price is also verygoodfor lunch and dinner

food:the food is consistently an eight out of 10. i'm not basing that on off-the-wall or thinking outside the box type of taste. it really is just your regular mexican food, but it's not too salty, they usegoodquality ingredients, they do not recook their fajita meat, and everything seems pretty fresh. in my opinion it is the best mexican food in hattiesburg.

value: my wife and i have gone here about 15 times over the course of four years. lately, we have been getting chicken fajitas for one, double beans instead of rice (less empty carbs), and water only. with the supplement of chips and salsa, this feeds my wife and i and our three-year-old and 11 month old. price is 14 and some change which leaves us quite a bit a room to leave way over a 20% tip if we see fit. and yes we eat a lot, the portion is large sized.

cleanliness:this place has been very clean every time i am going in there, smelling of a hint of fabuloso.

atmosphere: more than adequate with high ceilings and a somewhat outdoor porch area that is enclosed

tasty. prettygoodtex mex. my husband and i split the parradilla platter. lots of food and very tasty. he wasn't impressed with his maragarita. overall we would eat here again.

disappointing. my mother and i ate here after some friends shared that they had really enjoyed it. the salsa was decent, nothing special. the cheese dip was below average- it tasted almost like it was out of a can. and my entre (beef burrito, tamale, and a chalupa) was far below average. i love mexican food, and have eaten at many different mexican restaurants and this was one of the worst. my mother had the taco salad and was very disappointed. the service wasn't bad, the staff was very polite but not overly friendly. the atmosphere wast quite as warm as i like for a mexican restaurant but it wasn't anything offensive. i have heard manygoodthings about this restaurant, and the prices are not terribly high (our meal was about $30), but neither my mother nor myself enjoyed the cuisine.

the usual h'burg average mexican food.. i've eaten here probably 10 times now over the course of a year or so. keep coming back just because i haven't found anything much different or better in town; and this still isn't that great. i will say they have the best tortillas in town; always freshly baked and hot. i've found you can just about wrap any average mexican food in agoodtortilla and it tastes pretty good. i'm waiting for one of the mexican places in town to step it up and get us somegoodchicken fajitas; some thick sliced chicken fajitas like you find at uncle julio's in ft. worth, chicago and atlanta. every mexican place in town uses thin rinky-dink pieces of cheap chicken for their fajitas. matter of fact, if you took the tortillas from this place and combined it with the grilled chicken from qdoba or even the grilled chicken breast from tabellas (if you gave it a mexican twist), then you would have somegoodfajitas! just wishin'. just wish we had a really inspired mexican option in h'burg and thus far haven't found it.

mexican is my favorite kind of places to eat at. i must say papitos was one of the best. great great service greatgoodand alot if it for a great price i will be goin back often.

the food is usually verygoodand you get alot of it. the armosphere is nice. the service is horrible!!!!!! we have been there numerous times hoping to get decent service the next time. we gave up. started going back to del sol where the food and service both are good.

good food,goodatmosphere, bad location. my husband and i both enjoyed our food. he had fajitas and i had the chicken verde enchilades. atmosphere was nice. also has a nice deck that will be nice in warm weather. it's in a bad location, but the restaurant was busy anyway.

taco salad was fabulous!!. i went with my mom today. the waiter was great, the food was hot , and the food tasted great!! for the price we got large oval platters covered with food. i ordered the taco salad($5.99) and my mom ordered pollo jalisco(6.49) . both came within minutes of ordering. the atomosphere was very authentic mexican. if your on budget it is agoodplace to go. lot of food low price.
