papitos mexican grill

bad service for wife's birthday. we went to papitos for my wife's birthday tonight. we placed our order for drinks and received our drinks and chips timely. we then waited 10-15 minutes for replacement drinks and chips. waiters walked around around our table but no one asked if we needed anything. that happens, its life but then i ordered 2 cheese enchiladas but received 2chickenenchiliadas and my wife ordered 2 beef enchiladias verde but received 2chickenenchilladas. no one asked if our meal was right till late. choose another mexican grill and receive better service.

i can’t say i was disappointed, but based on the many glowing reviews i read, i may have set my expectations a little high. to start with, the salsa has a good flavor but no spice. nada. i ordered the enchiladas supreme which is 4 enchiladas in red sauce topped with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. chicken, ground beef, cheese and bean. of the 4, thechickenwas far and away the best. i would have been good with a plate of these. cheese was also good- seemed like they use oaxaca cheese. the ground beef had a strange flavor like it was reheated or precooked and the bean was not good at all. if those are the beans they serve on the side, i would not even eat them. no flavor. of course this is just one dish. i would like to try the fajitas before passing final judgment. for now i would say that papitos was average and worth a second try.

chips and salsa: good enough

food:the food is consistently an eight out of 10. i'm not basing that on off-the-wall or thinking outside the box type of taste. it really is just your regular mexican food, but it's not too salty, they use good quality ingredients, they do not recook their fajita meat, and everything seems pretty fresh. in my opinion it is the best mexican food in hattiesburg.

value: my wife and i have gone here about 15 times over the course of four years. lately, we have been gettingchickenfajitas for one, double beans instead of rice (less empty carbs), and water only. with the supplement of chips and salsa, this feeds my wife and i and our three-year-old and 11 month old. price is 14 and some change which leaves us quite a bit a room to leave way over a 20% tip if we see fit. and yes we eat a lot, the portion is large sized.

cleanliness:this place has been very clean every time i am going in there, smelling of a hint of fabuloso.

atmosphere: more than adequate with high ceilings and a somewhat outdoor porch area that is enclosed

love. this is my absolute favorite place to eat! my mom and i split thechickenand steak fajitas and we are full when we leave. the first time we went, we ordered 2 of them and ended up taking home 3 to go boxes! their chips and salsa are amazing as well. their staff is super nice and they check on you often to make sure everything is okay! go there if you haven't. you won't regret it!

the usual h'burg average mexican food.. i've eaten here probably 10 times now over the course of a year or so. keep coming back just because i haven't found anything much different or better in town; and this still isn't that great. i will say they have the best tortillas in town; always freshly baked and hot. i've found you can just about wrap any average mexican food in a good tortilla and it tastes pretty good. i'm waiting for one of the mexican places in town to step it up and get us some goodchickenfajitas; some thick slicedchickenfajitas like you find at uncle julio's in ft. worth, chicago and atlanta. every mexican place in town uses thin rinky-dink pieces of cheapchickenfor their fajitas. matter of fact, if you took the tortillas from this place and combined it with the grilledchickenfrom qdoba or even the grilledchickenbreast from tabellas (if you gave it a mexican twist), then you would have some good fajitas! just wishin'. just wish we had a really inspired mexican option in h'burg and thus far haven't found it.

the bravo fajitas are a combo of steak,chickenand shrimp. there were 2 shrimp in the order! the steak was tough and chewy. the dish was a huge let down for
$18, they could put more shrimp! the fried rice is awful..this place was decent when they first opened, now they are on the level of taco hell, but way more expensive

inconsistent quality of food. i was one of the first few cusotmers to papitos and loved their tortillas. a few weeks later the tortillas were thick and gummy and horrible. their portion sizes are great. the mexican rice is great. the kids meals are good. my go to dish ischickena la mexicana and i love it. i just wish their quality is consistent. the location does not bother me at all.

good food, good atmosphere, bad location. my husband and i both enjoyed our food. he had fajitas and i had thechickenverde enchilades. atmosphere was nice. also has a nice deck that will be nice in warm weather. it's in a bad location, but the restaurant was busy anyway.
