papitos mexican grill

papitos is my usual go-to for mexican food in hattiesburg. sometimes the prices can be slightly higher than one might expect, but for the amount of food you get as well as the quality, it's still a decent value. there's good variety too, and i like the atmosphere, both when it's busy and when it's quieter.

bad service for wife's birthday. we went to papitos for my wife's birthday tonight. we placed our order for drinks and received our drinks and chips timely. we then waited 10-15 minutes for replacement drinks and chips. waiters walked around around our table but no one asked if we needed anything. that happens, its life but then i ordered 2 cheese enchiladas but received 2 chicken enchiliadas and my wife ordered 2 beef enchiladias verde but received 2 chicken enchilladas. no one asked if our meal was right till late. choose another mexican grill and receive better service.

serving size. i ordered charro beans, queso and rice side orders to go on mothers day...was very disappointed in how small the serving we're...the beans were all liquid...won't go back there....

peanut. maybe it was the day i went, but all of the food tasted like peanuts. i think they use peanut oil.

i literally created this profile to comment on this restaurant. they are wonderful and the staff are always so nice when i go. this is my first choice of places to go out to eat because the price is so low you would think the food wouldn't be that good but think again! i have been here multiple times with my husband and never have we been disappointed. as a matter of fact i am going today for lunch! even the company i work for services the a/c's and they love it.

i can’t say i was disappointed, but based on the many glowing reviews i read, i may have set my expectations a little high. to start with, the salsa has a good flavor but no spice. nada. i ordered the enchiladas supreme which is 4 enchiladas in red sauce topped with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. chicken, ground beef, cheese and bean. of the 4, the chicken was far and away the best. i would have been good with a plate of these. cheese was also good- seemed like they use oaxaca cheese. the ground beef had a strange flavor like it was reheated or precooked and the bean was not good at all. if those are the beans they serve on the side, i would not even eat them. no flavor. of course this is just one dish. i would like to try the fajitas before passing final judgment. for now i would say that papitos was average and worth a second try.

made reservations for a certain time and waited over the amount of time. the table was completely cleared, but it wasn't cleaned off. it is ridiculous how slow it is! i defiantly do not recommend this place. go somewhere else!

papito's hattiesburg!!...i didn't know there was one here. wanted a few evening margaritas someplace i knew to serve great drinks and zomato found one of my favorite spots. i can always rely on papito's to quinch that thirst.

i saw some of the "poor" reviews people have written about papitos and i literally laughed out loud. papitos is so far ahead of every other mexican restaurant in hattiesburg; it's not even close. it's really good.

the portions are very big and the quality of the ingredients are excellent. pineapple fajitas is my go to dish and of course for a unique appetizer choro queso is mouth watering. this isn't your typical mexican place. it's by far a step above.

always excellent service and the food is consistently good. large portions and nice and clean. the price is also very good for lunch and dinner

the food was great at papitos. i think the chips and salsa could have been a bit more flavorful, and the service seemed a little slow for the amount of tables in the restaurant when we dined in. overall a nice experience. i will visit papitos again!

the food is good. my wife and i order the freshly made guacamole salad and the papitos dip. together they are great dishes.
add their salsa chips.

terrible service; i'll never go back. the food is okay, i'll even go as far to say it's pretty good, but the service is terrible. the waiters are rude and don't give you enough time to place your order. the first time the waiter came he barely gave us two seconds to state our orders before he said "i'll be back" and came back 20 (twenty) minutes later!! it took forever for our food to come, and we had to ask repeatly for the check. after finally hassling the wait staff for the check, they gave it to us (with a serious attitude) but never came back to actually get our money. after waiting another 30 minutes for a waiter we finally got up and went to the front to pay. i would never give this restaurant another dime of my money. and i also feel like the slow service stemmed from the fact that my friends and i are african american. terrible service, could have spent my money elsewhere.

chips and salsa: good enough

food:the food is consistently an eight out of 10. i'm not basing that on off-the-wall or thinking outside the box type of taste. it really is just your regular mexican food, but it's not too salty, they use good quality ingredients, they do not recook their fajita meat, and everything seems pretty fresh. in my opinion it is the best mexican food in hattiesburg.

value: my wife and i have gone here about 15 times over the course of four years. lately, we have been getting chicken fajitas for one, double beans instead of rice (less empty carbs), and water only. with the supplement of chips and salsa, this feeds my wife and i and our three-year-old and 11 month old. price is 14 and some change which leaves us quite a bit a room to leave way over a 20% tip if we see fit. and yes we eat a lot, the portion is large sized.

cleanliness:this place has been very clean every time i am going in there, smelling of a hint of fabuloso.

atmosphere: more than adequate with high ceilings and a somewhat outdoor porch area that is enclosed

best mexican in hattiesburg. out of all the mexican restaurants i've eaten, this place is the best. consistently great food every single time. everything about this restaurant is great, down to the chips and salsa. seriously, the best i've ever had.

i've never had a single bad experience here.
