papa turney's old fashion bbq

tonight i had a strong urge to eat chicken wings. i considered a chain but really prefer local shops. i remembered thisplacewas really close to me and the reviews were good so i thought i would give it a try. it's out of the way which in my book is a plus. it's a colorful oasis at the end of a long dark drive at a marina. nice. theplaceis small with dueces and longer communal tables. there was a band setting up and since i value my hearing i decided toplacea to go order. smoked wings were 86ed along with a few more items. bummer. so back to basics. pulled pork plate with macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. nine bucks and change. the service was pretty fast and pleasant. the meat had a good flavor with a bit of char and hardly any fat. for a dinner plate it was still moist considering the meat was probably pulled earlier that day. coleslaw was nice and sweet. a little watery by good. the mac & cheese was so good though, i saved it for last. it had crispy parts like a baked dish and a really strong cheese flavor. overall, a good meal.

thisplaceis amazing! it was our first bbq experience and mike was so friendly and organised our meal for us so we could try a bit of everything and get an authentic bbq experience, and it was all so delicious! the meat just fell apart and the sides were fantastic! we especially loved the baked beans and cabbage, so good! i cannot rate thisplacehigh enough, if you are in nashville, you have to eat at papa turney's, it will be the best decision you'll make =)

amazing!!! delicious bbq!!! also if your lucky you will meet the owners! they were fantastic and so friendly! love having thisplacein our back yard. if they entered the bbq festival they would totallyplaceor win.

what's not to love about papa t's?! no matter what you get you can bet it's going to be awesome. my personal fave is the brisket. no fat on it. it's chopped to perfection. you don't really even need sauce. the pork is amazing too. if papa is there you can be the will come to your table and personally thank you for coming in. when you walk in there is a sign hanging that says 'welcome family' and that's exactly what you can expect to be treated like when you visit here. my fiancé and i plan on using papa t's to cater our wedding next fall!! if you want amazing bbq, homemade sides, and dessert. thisplaceis definitely worth every penny you will spend!!!

good bbq and great owners. i had heard about thisplacefor quite a while before i finally got the chance to try it. the owner was working the register when we came in - very friendly guy and quick to answer questions or offer suggestions. anywhere but tx, pork butt is my bbq meat of choice so that's what i ordered here. it was very good with a nice, smokey flavor. there wasn't a whole lot of bark and the meat was a little overdone for my tastes but i wouldplaceit solidly in the category of "good bbq".

the sides were even better than the bbq. the greens were really meaty and smokey and the mac n cheese was some of the richest and creamiest i've had. almost all bbq places i visit on a regular basis have good and bad days. maybe today was just one of those days where the pork got a little overdone. and, really, it's just a nit-pick . .the pork was really delicious. i will definitely be back again to try some more.

thisplacewas hands down the best bbq i have ever had in my life. we had the ribs, brisket, & mac & cheese. all of them were awesome.

it is hard to find if you don't know where to look (gps took us into apartment complex) but once you find it doesn't look like much but oh boy is it ever phenomenal.

bbq gem. coming from boston, we didn't know what to expect from bbq here, but thisplacewas outstanding. great food and the hospitality was amazing. the owner was beyond friendly and even shared photos of the red sox world series ring! highly recommend this hidden gem.

you are a part of the family the minute you walk in the door !!!!. we were blown away at the level of hospitality offered by the owner and the staff of thisplace!!!

we were told we were one of the family and definitely treated like family !

the food was great and the portions were huge !

the quality of the meal was superb and the service was over the top !!!


the owners daughter took our order and his wife was there as well. the wholeplacewas family and the owner went way out of his way to meet us and thank us for coming in !

again, the food was great and the staff was perfect , but the view of the water is beautiful and makes for a great meal for dinner if you choose to eat on the deck at their location on the lake !

best bar b que. my husband donnie and i attended the opening of the first papa turney's restaurant in hermitage, tn. it was a great experience. the owners handed out goody bags of seasoning and other goodies. it was a fantastic time. theplacewas packed with people in line out the door! the only thing that topped that experience was the food. the best bar b que. the meat was seasoned just right. it was juicy fall off the bone...i mean melt in your mouth good! i don't know which part of my body had the best time..my tongue from tasting it or my tummy from swallowing it. i was mad when i got full!!! the music was also good. a great time. my son jason and i visited their nashville marina location that recently opened. again, enjoyable experience. sitting out on the deck enjoying great bar b que, looking out on the lake listening to their live band...man it was a great time, peaceful evening. eating the best food, listening to good music and watching the sun set on the lake, it dosen't get any better than that! you want some good bar b que.... w/ great customer service...forget the rest, papa turney's is the absolute best!!!

so delicious ! a must visit if in the hermitage area. we went here for lunch before going to the hermitage (andrew jackson's home). the staff is very friendly, generous portions, great menu! the grilled cabbage was great- i've never had it before. i highly recommend thisplace!

thisplaceis so wonderful!! the guys are so nice. make you feel at home!! the food...my word. i had a chicken sandwich plate with beans mac and chess pie. just splendid!

the biggest jewel of nashville.. i want to begin by saying that i am not a barbecue fan. i had a friend who found thisplaceon urban spoon and wanted to try it. he is a big barbecue connoisseur who travels all over the country to eat barbecue. as soon as we got done eating, he looked at me and said this was by far the best barbecue he has ever eaten.

i like it if it is good but i don't ever crave it like he does..... as soon as we walked in, we were greeted by everybody in the kitchen just like we were life-long friends. he got the rib plate and i got the pulled pork sandwhich. i scarfed mine down in a flash and he shared me some of his ribs and it truly blew my mind how delicious their food was. you can tell so much love and care was put into making this food, just like the food you would eat at your grandparents as a child. we even ate some of mama zeke's pies which are totally out of this world.

mike and his wife really have something so special going on here. i have never been in a restaurant where i feel so welcomed by the staff. you can really tell they love what they do and they really do know their barbecue. since then, i've been back once a week with my husband and now they all yell out our names with smiles when we walk in the door. we will continue to come here as long as they are open for business and i will continue to brag about them.

please do yourself a favor and drive to eat at this sweet family's amazing restaurant. you will not regret the drive or the money you spend whatsoever.

local treasure for great barbeque. tried papa turney's for the first time today. the chopped pork was "melt in your mouth" tender. i've eaten a lot of barbeque in my life, and this is the real deal. can't wait to try the pork ribs and beef brisket. what also sets thisplaceoff is the folks who run it. truly friendly and really seemed glad i was there. a family business and it shows.

amazing food only surpassed by the people!. met at the door by the owner mike turney, he quickly welcomed my wife and i in and introduced us to his son and nephew who were working behind the counter. never have i experienced such hospitality at an establishment. the folks running thisplaceare extremely genuine and it wasn't long before my wife and i felt right at home.

i ordered the dry rub rib plate and my wife had the pulled pork sandwich. the portions were large and very generous. my wife was pleasantly full and i was stuffed by the end of our meals. the ribs were absolutely amazing. i grabbed a bone to pull a rib out and all that came back was the bone! the meat was seriously falling off of the bone and the flavor was so rich and smoky.

i've always heard about great barbeque, and i thought i had had it a time or two. it wasn't until today that i realized i've never had great barbeque at all. this is food cooked with some serious time and love. if you love barbecue and you're in the nashville area, do yourself a favor and try papa turney's. you won't regret it!
