papa turney's old fashion bbq

we got the combination platters, ribs, chicken, brisket, wings, rib tips, beans, potato salad and mac and cheese. everything was great!!!

i've never had wings as good as the ones i just ate at papa t's. fall off the bone and the sauce was delicious. i wish we had bbq this good in michigan. definitely stop by. the staff is as friendly as can be.

bbq with live music overlooking a boat dock. can't go wrong. the pulled pork was good, but the small upstairs restaurant with old photos lining the walls made it welcoming if not somehow familiar. the cole slaw is sweet and the macaroni baked. i felt like family.

tonight i had a strong urge to eat chicken wings. i considered a chain but really prefer local shops. i remembered this place was really close to me and the reviews were good so i thought i would give it a try. it's out of the way which in my book is a plus. it's a colorful oasis at the end of a long dark drive at a marina. nice. the place is small with dueces and longer communal tables. there was a band setting up and since i value my hearing i decided to place a to go order. smoked wings were 86ed along with a few more items. bummer. so back to basics. pulled pork plate with macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. nine bucks and change. the service was pretty fast and pleasant. the meat had a good flavor with a bit of char and hardly any fat. for a dinner plate it was still moist considering the meat was probably pulled earlier that day. coleslaw was nice and sweet. a little watery by good. the mac & cheese was so good though, i saved it for last. it had crispy parts like a baked dish and a really strong cheese flavor. overall, a good meal.

great bbq & good music & great owners in fact i'm going to shower & drive 110 miles & eat some brisket! it's hard to stop eating it!

amazing hot link sandwich with slaw. ribs were excellent too. a little hard to find... down by the marina. loved the fried cabbage. slow cooked meat at its best!

excellent bbq! beautiful setting at the marina. pulled pork was wonderfully tender and nuicy and perfectly smoked. came on a sunday evening, nice music.

great food and atmosphere! mike turner is a very friendly man and want to make sure you are taken care of. they care about their customers. they even carded my 50 year old husband when he ordered a beer. flattery goes a long way!

yummy with a view. the barbeque absolutely fall off the bone delicious, but just as good is the view on the 2nd story patio overlooking the lake.

this place is amazing! it was our first bbq experience and mike was so friendly and organised our meal for us so we could try a bit of everything and get an authentic bbq experience, and it was all so delicious! the meat just fell apart and the sides were fantastic! we especially loved the baked beans and cabbage, so good! i cannot rate this place high enough, if you are in nashville, you have to eat at papa turney's, it will be the best decision you'll make =)

papa turney struck me as a genuinely friendly guy who really loves what he does.

amazing!!! delicious bbq!!! also if your lucky you will meet the owners! they were fantastic and so friendly! love having this place in our back yard. if they entered the bbq festival they would totally place or win.

a must stop for bbq in nashville. everytime we travel from northern indiana thru nashville we make time to stop at papa turney's. best bbq we have ever eaten. rib dinner is the best. all meat smoked 9 hours. new facility will offer beer and music to go with your ribs. exit 221, south, off i-40 east. down by the lake at the marina. mike is now a member of our extended family and he will treat you as one of his. best bbq in tn!!!! lou & kat
