orchid sushi

as a solo diner, was welcomed and felt comfortable in the space.  the meal, two maki rolls and miso soup, was delicious.  theservicewas prompt and friendly and the prices were reasonable. i would return.

my previous rating was a 5, i'm retracting my 5 and replacing it with a 1.5.  they are only getting a 1.5 because the sushi is good quality.

food is good quality, delivery takes forever andserviceis hit or miss. we have ordered for delivery weekly for the past two and a half years, spending a decent amount every week. when ordering, they will quote "45 minutes to 60 minutes maximum" delivery time, orders show up after 80-90 minutes and usually items are forgotten at the restaurant (usually equals every second or third order). they charge an exorbitant amount for replacing a soy sauce for a sesame sauce ($3, it's not like we're getting both sauces). they discourage ordering online even though they offer the service, simply because they do not want to pay the fee to menu.ca (they have said this to us several times). their only saving grace is they have pretty good sushi. unfortunately, that is hard to find in ottawa.

best sushi in ottawa.  best quality, best taste, very fresh.  largest selection of rolls to cater to a lot of different tastes.  the only issues we've had is logistical issues with delivery: forgotten credit card machine, forgotten sauces or rolls.  they are always quick to correct the mistakes and are pleasant to deal with.  we order from them weekly on various days and at varying times of day, the quality is always consistent.

best sushi in ottawa hands down.. i have had sushi from orchid sushi since they opened, a few months ago. first i have to qualify my taste and knowledge of quality sushi. i have lived in vancouver where you can find some of the best sushi in canada. for the first time in ottawa i find orchid sushi be as good, if not better than, most high-end vancouver sushi restaurants and the prices are very reasonable. i find orchid sushi's creations fresh and very tasty. i have head many items from their menu and i love each and everyone of them. they use very little rice and lots of seafood. the only use high quality and fresh ingredients. the kitchen is exposed to the restaurant so you can see that everything is made fresh when you order. this is a great place to eat in or takeout. theserviceis fantastic. i can not say enough good things about this restaurant and i hope you enjoy it as much i do.

a pleasant surprise. i saw this restaurant open a few weeks ago, and decided to give it a try.
it's not the best place for a romantic dinner, the "decor" is very basic, the centrepiece being a fridge with juices and premade takeout items. there was a bit of an "old fridge" smell too, but not too strong. the place is very clean though. it appears to be focused mainly on takeout, but there are a few tables, and we felt comfortable eating there.
overall i must say it was a pleasant surprise. the menu is very interesting, quite a few specialty rolls. sushi was fresh, very tasty. the presentation was great, very impressive (i doubt takeout looks as good though). prices are reasonable. we'll definitely be back. we chatted with the waitress, and it sounds like the chef is experimenting with desserts, and they might be expanding the menu.

edit: the fridge was gone a few weeks after i posted this. the owner obviously pays attention to reviews. the decor is much nicer now! i've gone back a few more times, and theserviceand food have always been top notch. a year later - still very impressed.
