best greek restaurant in the city. we live in north kildonan and have no problem driving across the city for special occasions or at the spur of the moment. best calamari we have ever had, the ribs, pastitsio, olympiachicken and greek salad are superb. (those are just our favourites) if you haven't been here.....what are you waiting for?? andrew, sia and the staff know how to look after their customers.

first off, i have recommended this place any chance i get. we have gone there during covid and supported it as it was a community area small business we love. the food is beyond amazing, the staff, always fantastic. honestly, we do love it...and then tonight happened.

we went out as a family. my husband and i and our son. we all live in the same house. we wore masks coming in and were seated promptly. everything was as it always was - perfect.

about 20 minutes into being there two gentlemen came in, both wearing masks and sat at the same table. no problem. we wondered if they were from the same household, but hey, live and let live. then two other gentlemen came in, again, both wearing masks and sat at a table 6 feet away as they are seating people properly which is great. then, things get a little odd...another gentleman walks in, again wearing a mask, and joins the first two men. it was clear they were not from the same household and again, live and let live.

the two tables were chatting to each other from 6 feet away, all good, then, one of the folks from the first table, gets up, walks over to the second set of gentlemen that came in and proceeds to stand at the table, with no mask and chats with them for at least 5-6 minutes. during this time, the server has come and gone from both of these tables twice. not a word was said about returning to their own table, or at the very least, putting on a mask.

to make matters worse, the gentleman behind the bar, who i am assuming (and this may be totally incorrect) is the owner is chatting away with all of them. nothing was said.

right now in manitoba, none of this is allowed.

on my way out, i did speak with the person behind the bar and told them look, we love this place and support you but this is not cool. he said he would talk to them. i said, it is clear you know them, so if you are ok with it - what is there to say.

i explained i have kids working at other restaurants who are getting yelled at by folks like this as they are told they have to enforce the new rules to protect the restaurant industry from yet another shut down.

i told him, truly, i love this place, but will not be back until this is over. i want all mb business, especially my small neighbourhood places to make it through this, but doing this is exactly why all restaurants keep getting shut down.

so for our family, we are out.olympiadiner has been our go to for years, even when new ownership came in, but this, jeopardizing all restaurants’ ability to stay open makes absolutely no sense to me.

love olympia, but you are better than this. support local - that goes for all of us. you as a business need to ensure you are doing your part so that all of you can stay open.

so i have tried many of the greek restaurants in winnipeg, but somehow had never been to olympia. we were in the area and decided to pop in for dinner. i opted to go with my usual choice of a chicken souvlaki pita with greek salad and poutine. my boyfriend opted for the traditional gyro. the food was delicious. one of the best souvlaki pitas that i have tried! the tzatziki was so good and the chicken was extremely tender. love that the greek salad had tons of feta and tomatoes and the homemade fries were very good! and they use cheese curds in their poutine instead of shredded cheese which is actually hard to find. i will definitely be recommendingolympiadiner and can't wait to return!

went here saturday after having many good meals here! i decided to bring the parents this time to enjoy some tasty greek food!
dad ordered theolympiaburger with french onion soup to start with 1/2 greek and 1/2 caesar for his two sides. mom went with the chicken souvlaki pita with fries and salad. potato bacon soup of the day which is a tasty one! ☝️
my husband went with the veal cutlet and fries with salad as his choice with the potato bacon soup. and for moi, i decided to go way outside my regular.. i went with pizza... i've never tried theirs and my curiosity had got the best of me.. so i went with the hawaiian one with pineapple ham cheddar mozzarella pizza. had to grab a bowl of the lemon rice soup (mm yum!). forgot this place serves up garlic bread with the soup and they had fresh bread that day too with olive oil balsamic... didn't need pizza 🍕🙂
although the pizza was pretty good that night and the next day too, i'll stick with the greek specialties for future visits. calamari to start which was tasty!

service has always been great whenever we go here. friendly staff and big big food portions, good quality for the money you spend.

feb 2017:
came here with my friend a few days ago for lunch. whenever i visit a greek restaurant i tend to lean towards chicken souvlaki pita just to see how their version is.
wow is all i can say. i was very happy with my order.
i took a page out of the heavy hitters book and decided to double up on salad - went with 1/2 caesar and 1/2 greek. the caesar was delicious and the greek salad could've used a tad more dressing, but it's probably best that it didn't (less is better for the waistline) :). kalamata olives is what i like to see on a greek salad as well.
to start, i added lemon rice soup and again wow, one of the better if not the best i've tried so far from any of the greek restaurants i've visited in the city. it was nice and lemony. a thicker broth and very good overall. yum.
our server was very nice and attentive. the souvlaki pita was tasty. chicken nice and tender with flavour.

i had ordered take out a few years back and i wasn't overly impressed at that time, but glad we gave this another chance because it was pretty fantastic 👍
i will most definitely be coming back here again and again ... ! check this place out!
ooh and big portions! great value for the money spent.

first time visit (.....but not our last!). did not know what to expect, although have heard nothing but amazing things about this place. my only experience with greek food is j&h and the plaza restaurant & tavern in kenora. we live in westwood.......and we can easily walk here. but, now wonder why we never have before!

clean environment, friendly staff. simple decor. very pleasant experience. a big plus is the fact that the menu is not overloaded. it's just the right size, with enough choices to make it interesting. that's important.....too much is too much. simple is better, concentrate on your selection and make them all spectacular.

appetizer: scallops ouzeri
soup: lemon rice
entrees: mediterranean chicken & lamb chops

when your spouse says that she's happy, then i'm happy. the food took a while to arrive. but when it did, bang!

very well-plated. decent portions, friendly and attentive service (thank you, kendra!).....absolutely delicious.

the chef's get total credit on this one.....you hit it out of the park.

thank you,olympiadiner.....we'll be back!

great food and great customer service. we went to theolympiafor dinner, we hand a craving for good greek food, and were seated right away even though we didn't have a reservation. we ordered our dinner and an appetizer and waited for our food to be served. the appetizer, saganaki, was fantastic it was the perfect size for a couple to share. when our mains were served one was fine but the other was not up to spec. we pointed this out to the waitress and she apologized and took then took it back to the kitchen. unfortunately the re-fire of the one main took too long and we ended up getting it to go. however, the restaurant took very good care of us and made it up to us.

based on this experience alone i would recommend theolympiato anyone looking for good food and good service. congratulationsolympiayou and your staff have done yourself proud.

in an age where restaurants come and die (and reincarnate as japanese eateries), it amazes me how many st. james joints defy time and continue to thrive. olympiadiner, with a plain looking storefront along portage avenue , has been around for as long as i can remember.  even though their website says they’ve only been around for a decade, i seem to remember it from my youth, much longer than ten years ago.  although the outside looks plain and unsophisticated, the inside looks bright and inviting.  lots of windows let in ample light—coupled with the bright blue walls, you can imagine that you’re sitting in the hallowed halls of olympus .  as you might guess, olympiais a greek themed restaurant, and they offer the usual greek fare, including souvlaki, spanakopita and moussaka.

the previous reviewers complaining about portion sizes must be either bigger pigs than the heavy hitters (unlikely) or going on off days because the hitters have never left hungry. first we must start with saying the souvlaki here is the best we have ever had anywhere, hands down, as well as the tzatziki (the heavy hitters are connoisseurs of fatty sauces). our favourite dish is the simple but incredible souvlaki in a pita (lamb, chicken, pork all delicious) one will order fries or a "greek" salad (you can also get half and half, the portions are massive still). "greek" is in quotes because true greek salad does not have lettuce but real greek salad is in fact an option for an extra $4 and they call it "village salad". pay the upcharge it is more than worth it. the pile of veggies with massive chunks of real feta is a mountain taking up half a plate. so generous we get one as a side between both us hitters and both enjoy it. the hitters rarely enjoy salad but with feta chunks and piles of olives, herbs and olive oil it's a salty pile of heaven we can almost forget is mostly chunks of veggies. a special mention is the souvlaki pizza. not normally fans of thick crust pizza, this cannot be compared to everyday pizza. the souvlaki is baked fresh to order and piled on the pizza, no frozen crap run through a pizza oven here. the pizza is so loaded up it needs crust to hold it. a suggestion is to order some tzatziki sauce on the side for dipping. don't feel ashamed, you won't be the first. what baffles us is the number of greek themed restaurants along portage avenue and in st james and how they possibly survive with the legendaryolympiaas competition.

deliicous food but less  offerings, price increases. real food, tasty, worth the wait. look @ the over 91 % ,one of the highest ratings of all eateries.
this is not fast food! most everything is delicious and house made!
the main complaint lately from so many people i know is the huge price increases and in many cases no more garlic toast, and soup or salad with most meals as before, now eliminated from the meal. ... so take out is also becoming costly here. still, pleasant service and great food, worth the wait and drive.
the food still tasted great but the trek is less so worth it unless you reside in proximity!

awesome lucious lasagna ,savory soups, fabulous fries! great garlic toast! + + +.olympiais a gem. a hidden treasure among the hundreds of predictable line cooking chains around town and north america in general!.
a very comprehensive menu.
steaks are very popular and the fish and many greek dishes all good.
the lasagna is absolutely amazing! among the very best in town!
it has a slight kick to it and a very healthy sized portion. real cheese.
the garlic toast is awesome and one of the best.
even the chicken fingers are great.
the french fries are delectable.
i prefer the soups of the day, true homemade & delicious
lamb, veal and greek specialties abound in a very cozy atmosphere.
great service, friendly and good value for the almighty dollar!
the dessert are usually quite good as well. the service always friendly.
this place has an on hands owner and u can see that in the high customer satisfaction rating here and how busy it usually is lunch and evenings, earlier on.

great food. today was our first time at theolympiadiner. maybe first time lucky but i doubt it , considering all the positive reviews i've read. we were there for lunch. the decor may be tacky to some but it reminded us of our greek vacation so it was just fine. bright and cheerful restaurant with cheerful, friendly and efficient serving staff. the food was very good and plentiful and came hot to the table. we had lemon soup with rice, a greek denver sandwich and a fresh turkey sandwich with cranberries. everything was done to perfection!. i highly recommend theolympiadiner.

you can find me atolympiadiner 2 to 4 days a week. the feta linguine is out of this world, and the fries are always bang on. for those who say the decor is "bland" and "boring", it's classic greek, and lively, so quit your complaining. the food is always good and always fresh. the waitresses are always so friendly and attentive. i don't think people realize that when it gets busy, a friday or saturday night for example, it may take a little longer to get your food. don't complain, because it's worth the wait. i've recommended this place to all of my friends and every one of them have had an amazing experience when they've gone.olympiadoes it right!

bland, boring. we decided to tryolympiafor the first time just based on the reviews on urban spoon. it was a huge disappointment. the good was very bland, and expensive. the steak wasn't cooked properly and our chicken was in desperate need of seasoning.
the decor is tired, whoever painted it should take a course in painting. it's a sloppy job.olympiais in dire need of a facelift.

we won't be back.
