old green bean

amazing. this morning, my partner and i went to the old green bean for brunch. we were expecting a little coffee shop, that might have been a little slack, and dirty.
but, oh my goodness, what a fantastic suprise.
at only 11:20am, theplacewas bustling, and the staff were absolutely wonderful! the coffee was honestly the best i have ever had, even better than all i tried in europe. i had a white chocolate chai lattee, and it was absolutely perfect! my partner had the big brekky, and my lord, was it big!? we have dined almost everywhere else in town, that has breckky, and not only was this the most well presented, but also the largest, and cheapest!
we have absolutely found our new favourite place! and i suspect i may have an addiction to this new white choclate chai!
can't believe i hadn't ever heard it being talked about before!?

excellent and well managed cafe. theplacewas so busy, yet the staff remained friendly and attentive. we were seated after a very short wait. food was delivered within a short time and was yum. coffee was perfect.

my favoriteplaceto come for breakfast in bendigo. i like that they change the menu frequently and keep things fresh. the food is always good, very reasonably priced and the coffee is great.

i love thisplace(and i'm not alone!) and feel the need to defend them against the last nasty and bitter review- having previously been and left a nice ish review the user (victorian dinners something...) claimed not to know what to do when they got there and that their coffee wasn't 'hot'. oh and then god forbid 'burnt'. i hate when people complain about queues, it means theplaceis busy and good and worth the wait, and i happen to judge a coffee on whether it comes out at a nice drinkable temperature, and is damn good. what did you expect when you no doubt waved down their poor old waitress? just ask for it extra hot in the firstplace(apparently it was your previous complaint anyway)and stop your negative whingeing. this is a gem in regional bendigo and i will be going back again and again!

best coffee not just in town but in general! food was awesome, staff are all lovely and bustling atmosphere testament to an awesome spot. new favourite!

bendigo is one of my favourite country towns for a day trip, especially as it has so many amazing eateries. old green bean is one of those places that specialises in country hospitality without being too cliche. this is a pretty arty/funky venue in a great corner location. with three distinct areas to sit, thisplaceis always bustling and there is a happy hum in the air as people mingle over coffee and delicious food.

i can never pass up the pastries cabinet as there is always an abundance of home made treats, and a piece of cake or yummy tart never go astray on a day trip. we also had the delicious hotcake, which was a big, fat hotcake served with poached pear, nuts, cream and a warm butter sauce. it was so good, and the texture of the hotcake was great for soaking up the delicious sauce.

the staff are just so lovely and welcoming and make that trek out of the city well worth the drive. the coffee, fab ambience and yummy food are a lovely bonus.

once upon a time thisplacewas theplaceto be in bendigo. sadly times have changed and with the new management thisplacehas lost the great vibe it used to have. staff seem too worried about getting food/drinks out with little focus on customer service. food is not what it used to be. coffee is still fine but the experience of not feeling like a valued customer sours everything. i'd love to see thisplaceget back to basics with friendly service where customer satisfaction is the priority.

apparently thisplacewas busier than usual, when we visited. there was a bit of of people queueing in a rather narrow passage way making the restaurant a bit too crowded in my opinion. the food also came out a bit slow but the service was good, so i guess it's all right. we ordered scrambled egg on toast which was bland but i quite like the toast. the knife was horrible though, it was barely able to cut the toast. we also ordered buritto which was just okay, not bad but not good either. it came out quite big though. as for the drink, the coffee was great, one of the best in bendigo. the tea was just okay. the tea cup was in horrible condition for some reasons, dusty and black if you try to wipe it.

i ordered the smashed avocado with smoked salmon and a poached egg and it was so delicious especially the hint of goats cheese throughout...yum! the coffee was also perfect i didn’t want it to end. i will definitely be returning when i’m back in bendigo!

grubby but good - busy lunchtime - had to order & pay then wait for it to be served. fast enough but there was something missing - no smile - no love. a couple of handmade rugs for outdoor diners had been left lying on the ground - nobody cared. we had a kimchee burger which was burnt & a chicken laksa, a coffee & kambucha drink totalled $35 - would we return? maybe once it's cleaned up a bit & staff look forward to serving you. it's not a happyplaceto be, though the menu looked interesting - theplacehas a cheap hippy grunge feel to it.

greatplacefor coffee. it serves seriously good coffee! like it a lot! one of the best i try in victoria.
i also try nacho which i highly recommend it! just be careful of the cheese~ it quite salty.

fantastic hospitality and assistance from the staffs in trying to seat the 20 of us when we called up just minutes earlier enquiring whether there was enough tables for all of us. orders are taken at the counter and food and beverages are served promptly despite theplacebeing packed. our lattes were robust and bold but too much foam in the cup. my friends enjoyed their hot chocolate and chai latte immensely. the big breakfast and caesar eggs were both more-ish and the eggs were poached to perfection, definitely egg porn going on. smashed avo was creamy and had a nice crunch from the pepitas. the addition of chia seeds was a pleasant surprise. the chicken focaccia was a bit dry but then again we think it's because my friend ask for no cheese. overall, great value for price and we loved the cosines of the cafe.

thisplaceneeds a good clean.

glasses are filthy, table water has a good layer of scum in the bottom of the bottle, and waitresses just wipe the crumbs and grot from the table onto the floor.
there were a million flies inside on the day i went, which made for a most unpleasant meal.

i had the green pea smash- which was a rather underwhelming pile of cold, unseasoned mashed peas on a pretty average piece of bread.

service is non-existent. you order and pay at the counter, which means queuing for a good 5 minutes while you stand in the way of the meals coming out of the kitchen.

coffee was ok, and i probably would have had another if there was table service and i didn't have to queue for another.

i couldn't honestly rate thisplacehigh enough. the food is always fresh and quick. staff are super friendly and always happy. coffee is always spot on. i love how the specials board is always changing daily.

this cafe never fails to deliver the young couple that own it are super friendly and very efficient there coffee is consistently good and their banana bread the best i have tried quite a few and here is just the best well done and they are a dog friendlyplacewhich suits me fine
