nomad bistro fusion

we hand a booked group of 6 but upon arrival we were told that unfortunately there had been a mix up with our table and we need to find space where available. the ribs and wings combo was tasty but had to wait almost an hour for our order and being the bottomless special, had to wait another hour for our second “round” offoodto arrive.

we enjoyed thefoodbut for the price - i would rather pay the same amount and receive one plate offoodand not wait an hour. our waitress was so busy we also waited 40 minutes for our drinks. i would come when they aren’t busy.

was at nomad yesterday evening for a late dinner with a group of friends, it seemed that only 1 waitress was on duty for the tables outside, our drinks were fast but unfortunately the waitress took a while to come back for ourfoodorder(half hour later) we waited around another half hour for our food, it was tasty but for the time it wasn't really worth the wait. thanks nomad for the good vibe.

really need to up their game. visited for coffee. walking in i was hit with a tomato cratey smell- not pleasant. nofoodon display, makes it seem like they were not open for business. no snap scan. coffee is weak and milky-reminds me of frisco. awkward experience with staff asking for a tip on take away coffee. interior looks interesting. conclusion: go somewhere else for take away coffee. perhaps its more of a sit down place, which would be weird for its location, interior, target market etc.

newcomer nomad has come to the cbd with a fairly unique approach. quite boldly it has decided to wow its urban surroundings with something different. and different it is. set right around the corner from bree street, a street that these days functions as one long streetfood and burger competition, this casual open-plan city venue offers a fusion-based french cuisine menu. yes, you read that correctly.

last saturday i arrived for a taster brunch (which in itself is new to me as i try and eat at least four times a day), consisting of 4 menu dishes presented in a miniature version. owner mohit has just opened the venue, and proudly showed me his first art work on the wall he has arranged to display on first thursdays. aside from the art, the restaurant uses mainly wood to create a casual, open, and worldly atmosphere. nomad seems like your average modern coffee joint, no fuss and no flair. but the dishes proved otherwise.

presented in true fancy fashion were, in order, a croque monsieur, pork belly with a cider reduction, roast beef flatbread with a red wine reduction and crepe suzette with armagnac and creme. this particularly fancy brunch soothed the senses, as the produce had been given quite the attention to detail. this was highlighted by the quality of the gruyere cheese and black forest ham in the (often simplified) croque monsieur, the pickled ginger that sided the pork and the quality feta on the flatbread. here is a chef that definitely knows her game.

thefoodwas a particular treat, and although we had some significant pauses between the courses, the wait was definitely worth it. what surprised me was that these specific dishes would most likely be served at a more fancy establishment, and while nomad oozes a more laid-back casual atmosphere, this might be something to get used to for its more spontaneous visitors.

for those who want to bypass some of the more casual streetfoodestablishments in the cbd, and perhaps would like a more refined menu for a very comfortable price, nomad bistro is definitely worth a try. i do believe the venue still needs to find a bit more personality, but thefoodis at least already speaking for itself.

absolitely appauling from entry to exit. customer service was non-existant.foodwas below mediocre (cold ribs drowned in oil, wings were cold, 'gourmet oreo milkshake' was tasteless and basically a plain watered down chocolate shake). with the bottomless wings you get 2 wings per serving. i mean really? the plates and cutlery are ancient and grubby. the ambiance is basically the only thing somewhat remotely appealing about the place. would never recommend nor return here.

two months ago we went to the nomads' bistro & bar to try the famous bottomless ribs and wings combo.

we arrived and ordered our drinks and waited for an hour. nofoodcame, but everyone else around us got served.

nomads clearly couldn't cope with the pressure of a busy evening and the waitress never came once to rectify the matter or apologise. 

we left without eating. a real let-down in the end.

the only mystery till today is why did the other people receive their food, but we didn't.

nomad is such an amazing place . the staff are beyond friendly and thefoodis amazing . one of the staff members explained the specials to us and made everything as clear as possible with a great smile on his face . the ribs takes me back to home . the wings are nice and spicy ! probably the best wings by far . this place is definitely one for the books .

the two stars is for the staff at least attempting to be friendly, and the ribs being fully cooked. everything else was horrible. thefoodwas cold, the recipe for their wings is tasteless but full of texture. it was bottomless ribs night, and i eat, but i couldn't go past plate number 2. the wings were too much.

second time i've been here and it was lovely. love love love the ambiance. thefoodwas good- nothing great and nothing too average.
had the ribs, wings, calamari and arancini tapas. the ribs had a lekker sweet bbq flavour, wings were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
the calamari was okay, not a fan of the hot sauce served with it. i am more of tartar sauce gal 😉
i was quite disappointed with the arancini balls..had little flavour and the risotto could have been made better 😢

service was good. waiter was gracious and helpful!
lastly, the table was so small and it was really crappy/uncomfortable for 4 people to dine at 👎😢

i never had such a disappointed and disgusting experience at a restaurant.foodand service was a disgusting, no time management at all. perfect location and vibe, but when it comes to the service,foodand drinks no class, etiquette, sophistication and zero hospitality education. the set up and bar was a complete mess, hygiene is not up to standard at all. and to top it all, some of the staff behind the bar was drunk and helping themselves to a drink while i was waiting for my order.

totally awesome atmosphere, laid back, casual, friendly and fun. comedy show night is a must, just better sound equipment should be used to hear them clearer,foodis delicious and their prices are good. definitely a place to go back to!

what an absolute terrible experience , what the post on facebook for their restaurant is definitely not what you get.

the service was for the lack of a better word pathetic.

booked a table , name was on the list but no seats reserved .

cocktails tasted like watered down juice.

serviettes served was actual toilet paper rolls.

beers given had no gas.

food was cold ,rib special - do not waste your money . 3 ribs on a plate and 5 chips , i wish i was exaggerating but wow it was beyond average.

waitress never asked if we needed anything else. space of an hour she wasn't at our table .

we were seated near to the kitchen , near a deep freezer .

lighting was bad couldn't even see my bill amount when i eventually received it after 20 minutes. afer receiving it waited another 10 minutes to acutally pay it.

toilet rolls everywhere !

i would not recommend this place even if thefoodand drinks was free.

always wanted to go to nomad but what a disappointing experience.

the place have a great vibe. however rather check what is the entertainment of the evening. we had a band performing and as don't like heavy metal type of a music , i didn't like it so much. however my friends loved it. thefoodis great. we had burgers and it was delicious. love  the milkshakes the service was great and if you want to go where you will have an awesome evening this is the place. #lovenomad there is a personal touch as well with your name on a board.

excellent place to just chill and enjoy the comedians and the vibe is so stunning. see you next week nomad. thefoodis excellent and music.

service was okay, thefoodhowever was pathetic...there was no crackling or apple sauce with the pork, no asian slaw or sauce with the calamari and the ciabatta wasn't toasted. what a disappointment!
