the right mindset. i think a lot of people come here expecting everything. mug n bun is an old school drive up and change your grease type of place. the food isn't going to win awards or anything. the root beer should though its out of this world good. i live a block away so come here a lot. if you like a little spice the hot pepper cheese balls are one of the best things i have eaten. mac n cheese wedges with some salt or pepper or sweet potatofriesare a good choice for something new. they put cinnamon and sugar on the fries. and they have funnel cakefriesnow which are awesome for dessert. tenderloin and burgers are decent and what you would expect but i tend to go for a foot long with cheese and sauce or a polish sausage. but next time you go make sure u get root beer and hot pepper cheese balls no matter what u decide on and it will all be worth it trust me. and sometimes we will order root beer by the gallon and just split it up, its much cheaper but you have to order to go. doesn't mean you have to leave though.

first of all verify prices over the phone or in person before you place and order. nothing on the website or in this app currently reflects pricing. even with current pricing they still don't calculate the tax correctly and you can overpay. some of the servers are pleasant some are not. in my opinion they are pricey for fast food. my chili cheesefriesand five piece mini corndogs came to $9.41. the chili cheesefriesare good though. the grilled cheeseburger is good but way too greasy and entirely too much cheese. they used to take american express but just recently quit it. they have not properly removed the signs to reflect so. there is nothing special about this place unless you want different fast food types of items such as the grilled cheeseburgers, root beer, and chili cheese fries.

mug-n-bun is an old-fashioned drive-in open since 1960. unlike other drive-ins that feature a menu board with a call box, here, one turns the headlights on, and a server comes over. everybody must be regulars, because the menu is only posted on one side of the building, and the waitress didn't carry a copy. as most reviewers have noted, pretty much everything is frozen or fried and not memorable. condiments like lettuce and tomato are 40 cents extra, apiece, and must be specified when ordering.frieswere crinkle cut and bland, while onion rings were decent, but had a batter a little thicker than i like. root beer, available in regular and diet, was quite tasty, but not enough to bring me back except to pick up the occasional quart. pizza is also available in a separate building on the lot, and features a different phone number.

breaded tenderloin isn't worth it. i like to try the local foods from new cities i visit, and i had heard that mug 'n bun was the spot for the infamous hoosier breaded tenderloin sandwich. it was my first time trying this food, and i gotta say, it was unremarkable. it had a weird texture (sort of like it was ground meat), little flavor, and was oddly dry (you'd think if it was fried, it would be moist). the onion rings were awesome! they are huge, fresh, and well seasoned with a wet batter. the catfish platter was ok, nothing that we would try again, and thefrieswere ho-hum (frozen crinkle fries). the root beer was delicious, full of vanilla flavor, but unfortunately was not served with free refills. perhaps we didn't try the right foods on the menu, but if we go back it wouldn't be for anything we ate today, except the onion rings :)

it was ok. overall i enjoyed the experience, but the food certainly wasn't spectacular or even delicious. myfriesand grilled tenderloin sandwich were average at best. l'll be the first to say i think most drive-in's are overrated, with most folks thinking the food tastes better than it is because of the atmosphere or nostalgia. my girlfriend got a burger which was better tasting, but still just "ok". it was cheap though and the root beer was fantastic.

the other thing i was very dismayed by and chastise the owners for is now accepting credit cards, but not allowing tips to be added to the credit card bill. your wait staff works hard, and given most people are probably inclined to pay by plastic these days, i imagine many servers are getting screwed out of tip money. they deserve better!

it has been the best for years.... mug n bun has been around since before i was born, and it is the only place i can recall that has had such good food for so long.

you can always count on a great tenderloin and onion rings, and rootbeer in a frosty mug. (i'm not even a fan of onion rings, but i love them here!) when i don't get the tenderloin, a footlong andfriesis my "backup plan." it sounds like a simple meal (and it is), but there is something about mug n bun that just makes it taste better than anywhere else.

my absolute favorite food from here is the pizza shop in the back. i remember mom ordering pizza every weekend around 9:30... and dad would walk in the door with the hot pizza just in time to watch saturday night live. the pizza is the same now as it was 30 years ago, and every time i go home to visit mom, i try to get a pizza. those ladies work hard in the pizza shop, and the proof is in the taste.

mug n bun is a classic landmark in speedway, and it should not be missed.
