food was outstanding. best creme brûlée and bouillabaisse i've had. service was a bit hit and miss. towards the end of the meal the waiter asked me "do you take photos of everything you eat?". umm completely unnecessary and yes i do, i was there to write a review on the restaurant. how do you say idiot in french?

fabulous french!. we dined at montrachet on valentines day & were blown away. the service was warm & friendly, without a hint of the snootiness so prevalent in french restaurants. as for the food...amazing! the crab soufflé & beef fillet were wonderful, the dessert of chocolate ganache was to die for! the only low note was my partners' escargot entrée; the snails were bland & rubbery. the rest of the meal was so delicious though, we forgive you montrachet ;-) the wine, recommended by our lovely waitress, complemented the meal wonderfully. a lovely night of great food & i can't wait to go back for more!

one of brisbane's best.. i can't tell you how many times i have been to montrachet. too many to count that is for sure. i have been following terry around since he had a restaurant at wilston called medium rare. at montrachet though he has found his home and i love visiting.

decor is very authentic and i love the feel of the place.

food is french with occasional hints of italian and the menu changes about 3 - 4 times a year. the duck is always good as are the snails. fish is also always good. steak and frites, whilst not my cup of tea, is probably the most popular dish he does. if you go in winter and the cassulet is on the menu do not hesitate. it's a hearty affair so maybe skip the entre. it is one of the best dishes i have ever had. and the creme brule? shut up!

very good wine list and unless you are a control freak or very picky let the staff pick one for you. a great way to explore french wine. the wine is reasonably priced as well which makes a nice change from some of the outrageous mark ups we are seeing at some of brisbane's other top restaurants.

the staff here are great. they always remember me and always make me feel welcome. i find it interesting that after several years terry has managed to hang on to the same staff and i know he doesn't tollerate fools so something is going right to hang on to staff in such a transient industry.

it pays to book. single diners can often grab a seat at the bar without a booking. it's a great way to meet new people and swap notes on the food. parking can be a drag particularly at lunch.

one of brisbanes best resaurants. fellow francophiles will love it.

my wife and i came here for our three year anniversary on a whim. it was melbourne cup night, and this may have contributed to the fact that we were able to book a table for two at eight by phone, an hour prior to our arrival. i have always been sceptical about this place. usually we would go for a little more avant garde - ortiga or melbourne. please understand we are not loaded, but treat ourselves to a dinner out a couple of times a year and it has to be fancy. this one was courtesy of fleetwood mac cancelling. my birthday present became this night out. melbourne cup night meant we could dress up which was nice. please dress up. we arrived early and were sat at the bar while our table was prepared. one can eat at the bar and i would advise this if on a date, for sure. nice and intimate and amongst the action, and alcohol. we would have stayed at the bar (no probs expressed by staff) but the table was a goodie. we had the degustation menu $95 each which i think is reasonable. here it is-
service: top notch. dealt with two or three staff in our transition from bar to table to dinner to exit and all were obviously experienced. and subtle. i had to take a work call outside and the waiter came over and chatted to my wife until i came back so she didn't sit on her own in the middle of the restaurant. he also noted her not drinking and upon realising she was pregnant made sure that medium rare was ok for the lamb dish. this is impressive. did not feel rushed at any time. really impressed by staff, and this is important for us.
atmosphere: i would take my parents here to impress them. intimate. the clock works.
food: this place has grounded me. yes modern takes/avante garde have been my thing but this is simple food done very very well. my friends won't think i'm cool any more and i care not. the best fish dish i have ever had in my life. i'm forty. great degustation menu, perfectly sated at the end. and the wine list is great.
we will return, thank you.

a bowl of lettuce and oil. what happened? to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary we returned to what used to be one of our favourite places.

salade verte ($9.50). cheap oil thrown on top of a bowl of cos lettuce leaves is not a salade verte!

how about pacing the meal - i don't usually like courses to arrive before i have finished the one preceding it.

what happened to the exceptional service? you look great, how about some conversation skills and not asking "tip sir"?" when i asked to move due to the mother and daughters next to us having a loud argument - why not do so with a smile instead of under your breath muttering that we were "negative"
so of course we didn't move..... too much like hard work for you so we had to endure the entitled daughters argument with their parents.

tables too close together, hardly worth the $- usually around the $120-$150 per head

disappointing. escargot canned. venison was small hard round discs. very over cooked. good wine. perhaps we caught them on a bad night, but for $700 for four people, i expected much more. very average indeed.

these guys mean business. been here a couple of times. both times food was designed, prepared, made and presented like an art form of excellence. this place takes food very seriously and it shows in their faultless service and food on the plate. but you do pay a price for it. its a treat to dine here.

okay but not great. finally got to this restaurant after hearing all the hype. in short, the food is good for a bistro standard, but to claim the fine dining status it does not really have that delicate touch to it. if it wasn't so expensive, i would say it is not bad. however, to be competing in the fine dining sector, it kind of just missed the mark.

you broke my gf. i hate this place. you broke my girlfriend. i took her here for lunch on a tuesday. she is now spoilt and demands nothing less than perfection a la montrachet for each dining experience that we have.

she had the foie gras quail which was amazing. i had the venison - brilliant.

a wonderfully authentic french experience which is going to cost me dearly for the rest. of. my. life! thanks...

lovely atmosphere, traditional food. montrachet has a lovely french inspired atmosphere. i almost felt like i was sitting in a parisian bistrot/ bar. the food was comforting and tasty, however very traditional. sometimes i judge a restaurant by their ability to be innovative and impress - the food i could cook at home, so for me montrachet is not my favourite french restaurant.

what fantastic food, friendly & warm hospitality. had entree of snails in garlic butter and spinach with exquisite light pastry top. very nice. the other entree was the prawn ravioli - 3 generous serves with very fresh light pasta and a love tomato & cognac sauce. mains were the bouillabaisse and the lamb loin, both really well cooked with incredible flavours. finished up with the deco strutted crocque en bouche - light and fluffy pastry & cream filling. a truly satisfying meal.

lovely and classic french cuisine under the command of chef thierry galichet. the place is like getting into a bistro in paris. french décor, small tables in single line, and a big marble bar for more sporadic clientele. well lit the white brick wall gave intensity and atmosphere. menu changes every couple months
