we went here for a business lunch and the waiter picked our wines - perfectly. the location is good, nothing special, but good - while it is a lovely open space that is new, it is a let down by what is a dated fitout and i really don’t get uncomfortable bench seats in a fine dining restaurant. thefoodwas to me very good, but just not rich enough to meet what i always love about frenchfood- maybe it is just me. the duck i had was crispy, but over cooked and lacked flavour. the sheeps brains as entree were good, but once again, the sauce was missing something. the service was friendly, well informed and quick - but the little things let it down - ask me please to take my coat rather than leaving it crumpled on the bench seat (i do hate these bench seats). the toilets being outside and open to the public is a real let down for this location. scrapes in a 4 thanks to the wine choice.

thefoodand ambiance was fantastic, absolutely perfect. however, my partner and i felt as if our waitress was quite judgmental and skipped on the customer service she gave us as we didn't look as 'upperclass' as the other diners. she gave excellent service to the table next to us but was rude and gave us looks of disapproval throughout the night. it was disappointing to say the least as we loved everything else about our experience.

visiting for a weekday dinner we are warmly greeted on arrival. our refreshing moneypenny and goji antoinette cocktails arrive pronto. cheers!

*duck and cognac parfait with warm toasted brioche is a great appetiser.
*tasmanian oysters freshly shucked, served with a mignonette sauce are plump and scrumptious.

*bouillabaisse has fresh fish, cuttlefish, prawns, scallops and a serving of rouille and croutons. a larger serving of broth would have made this dish perfect.
*black angus eye fillet (300g) is grilled to perfection and is served with french fries, salad and green peppercorn sauce. this medium-rare eye fillet is fantastic!

*crème brûlée is simply presented without fanfare. the creamy vanilla custard and crunchy caramelised topping always satisfies.
*chocolate soufflé is beautifully puffed up, rising high above the rim. the hot centre, oven dried lychee, crème anglaise and mirabelle sorbet makes this my favourite dessert.
*cafe latte is intense and full flavoured.

a very enjoyable date-night with greatfoodand excellent service. thank you to tanya and the staff at montrachet.❤️

went here for a birthday dinner and was thoroughly impressed by the quality and creativity of finefoodon display. service was excellent, our waiter was very genuine and attentive (but not overly), providing us with knowledgeable descriptions of thefoodand even the recipe for some components on request. we both had the tasting menu, and the restaurant was able to cater towards my girlfriend for her pescatarian needs. the dishes that came out were all of excellent quality, of note the smoked milk pasta, the very interesting take on raclette, and the scallops.

i went to the old montrachet back in the late 2000s and was keen to try the new revamped restaurant. the decor was great, not a huge restaurant but not too noisy. service was very friendly.foodwas amazing, loved the scallops and onion soup. mains of lamb and duck were both cooked perfectly with delicious accompaniments. dessert of peach melba and opera cake was a lovely way to finish the night. cocktails were also very good! would recommend this for a special night out.

if this place was half the price it would be a 5, but i can't say it's an amazing experience for its price. sure the $70 bottle of wine was great and thefoodwas good, but i've had similar experiences for half the price. the only real quality difference here i found compared to less expensive places was that montrachet gave more thought to varying textures in most of their dishes. i'd go back if someone else paid.

long before i had ever startedfoodblogging, i had already been acutely aware of the foodie scene and had made a bucket list of dream places i really wanted to go to, but had to save for a special occasion. top of my list was none other than montrachet, the french restaurant which has newly been relocated to the hot foodie hub, king street in bowen hills. with my annual birthday celebrations on foot, two very dear friends offered to let me choose the place to have dinner, and i finally couldn't resist the temptation, and so queen v made the booking.

april2021. rated 5. went here for a late midweek dinner with friends following an online reservation ahead of time.
we ordered the five-course degustation ($120pp) with matching wines (regular at $95pp). thefoodwas impeccable, show-casing fine techniques, fresh produce and perfectly matched with great wine choices. complimentary bread was provided on request to finish off our main meals. the courses were rounded off with complimentary chocolate and melon-flavoured macarons.
service was friendly and efficient. smart, refined yet cosy ambience. prices reflective of fine dining.
overall, a triumphant return to montrachet!

dec2017. rated 5. was excited to book a table for two at this celebrated establishment to celebrate my partner's birthday.
we were promptly seated and brought out menus. after ordering drinks of white wine (highly recommend the 'sancerre'), we got to the meals:
for entrees, we ordered the cervelles d'agneau panees- beautifully crispy crumbed lambs brains and quite a hearty starter, and the coquilles saint jacques- perfectly cooked scallops with enticing accompaniments.
for mains, we had the seafood bouillabaisse- a delicious seafood broth with depths of flavour, accompanied by decadent garlic butter and crispy croutons, and the lamb cutlets - perfectly cooked and juicy.
finally for desserts, we ordered the apricot souffle- impressively light and moist souffle with delicate flavours of apricot, and the chocolat de passion- can see why it is award-winning; beautiful layers of flavours and textures.
our dishes came out all promptly, apart from desserts however the restaurant was full and bustling at this point in time, and we were happily sipping on calvados.
our waiter was marvellously passionate and happily enjoyed chatting in french with my partner.
ambience was fitting for a classy french restaurant.
would highly recommend for date nights or special occasions. we would love to come back to try their degustation menu as well.

came here with a group of friends for a degustation dinner and all i can say is 'wow'. it was small and cosy. thefoodwas amazing, one course after another. i love the crab soufflé and the scallops with truffle. it was also my first time tasting the foie gras and blue cheese and i have to say, it was pretty good. i would definitely come back, hopefully soon!

we have been going to montrachet for years, under the previous management/chef and loved it. this was our first experience with the new chef, shannon. thefoodwas good, most dishes as good as they were with thierry previously though probably not good enough to justify the prices, but the we were shocked to have visit from shannon who quite aggressively defended the cracked plate we had complained about, and the music. apparently it wasn't cracked, but hand made and the scar was deliberate in some way (could have fooled me). what happened to 'the customer is always right', even if they aren't?! never mind, brisbane is full of fabulous restaurants these days so we can go else where and you might want to consider the same.

a very disappointing experience. we have frequented montrachet over a dozen times over the years so were excited to head back again. unfortunately this time will be our last. we attended a 'friday night supper club'. although i understand the concept behind this night thefoodthat was served reflected none of the montrachet that we knew and loved and the many many times we have enjoyed a beautiful degustation meal there. no flavour, no seasoning, little skill came through in the dishes and no clues that we were in eating in a french restaurant. the degustation menu was poorly constructed leaving you hungry and unsatisfied between courses (a good degustation with qualityfoodwill be perfectly balanced and never leave you hungry regardless of the portion sizes). when we gave our honest opinion to the staff when asked it was handled very poorly, he became defensive and rude and lacked knowledge about the nights menu rather than handling our feedback with grace. due to the complete lack of quality to thefoodthe entire table left hungry and unsatisfied.

there was a clumsy offer passed on from the chef as we were leaving which was done with no genuine intent. it was almost a backhanded offer which we didn't take up as we had experienced rude service from 4 staff members at various times at this point and just wanted to leave. the little things like not receiving butter to accompany our bread until everyone's plate was empty on the last savory course, and then no butter knife to accompany it and 3 people avoiding eye contact when we tried to get one.

the only redeeming feature of the meal was the dessert which was actually nice.

i just can't understand why the so called acclaimed chef needs to hide behind the name of a restaurant that was a brisbane institution and ruin it. if he is that good he should have been able to stand on his own two feet. my guess is that he isn't.
